@@MFillmore So apparently we got fucked in this US by Verizon because they had to put in a MMWave which added $100 to the price. Just wanted to preface with that part. However i get what you mean. But i think that’s the beauty of android. You have so many options to choose from depending on what you are looking for in a phone. The pixel is more so a well done introduction into android. It’s simple, easy, and helpful. I’ve had every pixel (minus the “a” series” and i can honestly say they have not had a bad phone.. Maybe badly reviewed, but once you have in it hand it works just as well as any other phone and in some case exceeds them.

Waited out with my Pixel 3 for the 5 because the 4 was super expensive and had a ton of features I didn't care about. The 5 is perfect for me. Exactly the features I want for a reasonable price. Also ordered it through Verizon just a couple of days before they announced nationwide 5g launch, which will cover my home and surrounding areas based on their map, so that's pretty neat.

I love aluminium because its so light. The pixel 5 is made from aluminium and the HTC 10 is also made from aluminium right? So most likely they got the same build quality then, except google put a tiny layer of plastic on top of it so it doesn't look like metal/aluminium. Most likely they did so for avoiding scratches? Anyways the LG G5 was similar and I loved that phone for it low weight but still durable.

I've been on android (samsung and pixel) since blackberry pearl. Tried an iphone 12 pro and returned it after 3 days. So much missing and uncomfortably clunky! Where's the always on display, spam filters, notification icons, usb c, and fingerprint scanner during a mask wearing pandemic. Just seemed like a massive loss of usability for blue bubble text. Back on my Pixel 3xl until I grab the Pixel 5.

I am on my 2nd OGXL going to 5 same as you. When I saw the size comparison between the two, I was initially very sad. When you compare the SCREEN size though, it actually looks great. Guys.... I for example waited for long time for a phone as Pixel 5 in such a small body. Not everybody is like me BUT I don't really want the best of the best anymore. With Pixel 5 the performance is almost high end and you get a ~6 inch phone with a 6 inch screen perfectly symetrical PLUS a clean software without all sort of crap and bloatware. I am fed up of having a brick in my pocket and a zillion unwanted apps that i can never remove from the phone.

The only way they could achieve these specs is by making the phone thicker atleast by one millimeter. That would help fitting the battery (but 5000 still seems impossible to me) and adding some very powerful water cooling solution for the 865+.

@@TeodorKubena what's the problem with having extra thickness, most of the people will take thickness over mediocre battery life. Pixel's have the worst battery life in their phones, so it would have been a logical move. As for the SD865+, Again pixel's are notoriously famous for degrading performance over time, so in terms of future proofing SD865+ would be the best. All of the specs have been already present in most of android flagships these days. So it doesn't look like a big deal. But i think google is opting for a different strategy where they are price conscious

I haven't experienced much slowness with my Pixel 2 (which I cannot say about Android phones in the past), but this SD765G chip is barely faster than the SD835 that came with the Pixel 2 and I don't think the Pixel 2 would survive one more software update (if Google would release Android 12 for it which they won't).

Out of every review I've seen so far, this is the most accurate, every-day use focused review. Good job. Tech reviews in YT is a spec sheet focused plague. Who tf wants to spend an extra few hundred dollars on a 865+ chipset that never gets used to it's potential. On a phone. If I wanted to run processes that required that much power, I'd be doing that on my PC, not my phone.

Honestly, I want them to make two versions of every flagship pixel: The normal one, at the lower price, and the photo and videographer edition at a higher price, with higher capacity. I would have paid more for a telephoto lens, and 256GB onboard. Everything else could have been the same. Either way, this stands as a fantastic phone. The only issue is, do I really see the justification upgrading from my 3A? The only major benefit I see is the second rear camera.

So I daily drive the S21 Ultra...and I got the pixel 5 to play around with...and I'm tempted to switch. It's a TINY phone, but the screen doesn't feel small at all. It's a super light phone, plenty speedy for daily driving. Camera compared to the Samsung does require some getting used to (idk if it's like a fisheye effect, but I always feel like there is a lot of deadspace around your subject that just isn't there on a Samsung lens...idk, maybe just me?)

It's great to see they're thinking about price. Flagship phones have been way overpowered for my use case for a while now. I'm really sad to see the stereo speakers go though and I really got used to squeezing my phone for various options. Looks like I'll be keeping hold of my Pixel 3 for a while longer but if I managed to lose it or break it, I'd probably still pick a Pixel 5 over any other flagship right now.

Really my only gripe (super subjective) is that they didn't keep the body design like the Pixel 4 line. Really liked that "rail" around the edge of the phone. The 5 looks the same as the 4A line so it looks unnecessarily cheap, but that's really a superficial complaint.

I get over 6h SOT on this thing with 1.5 to 2 days away from the charger. During the holidays I got to 2d18h with ~5h SOT. I love this thing. I previously had a OnePlus 6 and the CPUs inside are supposed to be kinda the same thing and because of that screen and stock Android the P5 feels much better, smoother, etc. I mean 60Hz to 90Hz is a pleasure to the eye. Right before buying the P5 I used an iPhone 12 for around 3 weeks which was terrible in every way from my pov and I got to the point where I didn't even feel like unlocking it because of the iOS restrictions but I then returned it and got the P5 instead which got my sanity back to me. Anyway, this is a great phone. And I personally love that specked black back. It's quite pleasing to look at, but maybe that's just me.

The price is too much for what this phone is.... knock 100-150$ off and you have a winner. Otherwise i'll wait for an actual flagship from google or ill switch to oneplus.

The price is too high, I agree. I'd pony up a bit more for the iPhone 12 for the better video recording, speaker quality and wicked fast processor.

Sadly the phone companies have divided up the market to not compete to much, in that way they can keep up the price on devices (flagship) that is often a bit too overpriced, so the Google Pixel devices are not sold in Sweden and if we try to order from another country we can get punished by hidden fee that can make the phones 2 to 4 times as expensive :(

I use the 4xl & to me this would be a downgrade. I like Soli, face unlock & the squeeze feature. As a matter of fact I just picked up the S20FE ☁️ red which I luv? This five is a good phone but not at 7oo.oo bucks plus tax? If it were 550.00 to 600.00 then it would be a great deal. But I can't justify the retail price? Most reviewers, are actually saying that under display 🔊sucks? The 4a & 4a 5g sound much better?

Is the pixel ip68 or ipx8 rated. I keep seeing people say both and a quick google search I always find it to have a ip68.

Yeah I've heard people say both, however, this is directly from Google store: "Pixel 5 has a water-protection rating of IPX8 under IEC standard 60529. Charger and accessories are not water-resistant. Water resistance is not a permanent condition and may be compromised due to normal wear and tear, repair, disassembly or damage."

@Android Central They should've called them *Nexus 2020 5G* They're devices that just works. No fanciness with quad/quin/tetra lens cameras. Has reliable + battery-life processors. And great software support + security updates. Most of us only hang on to our devices for 2 years. How many of us has used *ALL* the features of our $1000-$1500 USD smartphones??

Yes, Pixel 5 is a great deal here! :) On the other hand: The new iPhone 12: $799 in America. 899€ in Europe. If you want the 128GB version (like the Pixel), it's 950€. And because it's already nearly a thousand euro phone you may want that extra Apple Care, another 170€. So you are at 1120€, that's 1316 US dollars! Hope nobody starts comparing the new iPhones to the new Pixel phone here in Europe. :D

@@TeodorKubena I live in Austria. Google doesn't sell Pixel phones here, so I just bought it through the Germany Google Store. There are companies you can send the product to and they then send it to you. :)

48MP makes no sense at all thru a little plastic lens. It's impossible to render a proper image. DLSR has trouble rendering about 36MP.

Android Central clearly never bothered with Soli that much. Or even thought about people out there that would have a need for it. I literally use it everyday on the 4xl and am sad to see it go away.
