Something like a tree logo where it's the G Google logo with a trunk on the bottom to form a tree. Stick that on every box and the environmentalists will love them. Just own it. Your acetone test also showed that bio-resin isn't "typical plastic," even though plastic is a general term for being moulded into shape, "it's stronger and more resistant." They could lean on the toughness of the bio-resin that also helps the environment.

Thank you so much for making this video! I just bought one of these phones used in very good condition from Ebay. The only thing I am not happy with is the Kernel on the Radio may never officially get updated to use channel 77 etc. to use "C" band 5G. It is an Ebay certified Reconditioned used phone and in like new condition with a one year warranty I actually winced and grimaced the whole video while you cut and scratched it up. I did not think I was capable of that kind of emotion anymore Between this video and your teardown I may use this phone without an otter box style case. I would've liked to have known that they utilized bio resin. I enjoy my pixel 5 anyway, but that would've earned some definite extra points in its favor. Based on my basic (freshly googled) information, it looks like bio-resin is generally reconstituted cellulose, similar to the various types/brands of viscose rayon. That would definitely explain why the acetone test didn't to anything. Something that you could maybe do in the future for other devices that are made of bio resin: do a burn test on a chunk that you've removed from the device. I would guess that it'd have a basic heat-resistant coating, but it should otherwise turn more to ash vs developing a hard, shrunken edge.

Somehow I missed this physical test of the Pixel 5. I just purchased one, having made with a fairly correct guess of its materials and outer construction, from holding and weighing one in my hand. I am pleased both with my purchase and lucky guess. I added a gorilla glass screen protector and a Google case, to bring the Pixel 5 up to my requirements for grippable surface, thickness, and some surface protection to the disply, camera cover and fingerprint scnner. I'm lovin' it.

As long as it's not sparking as he submerges or removes it, no risk. Once it's fully submerged, it's perfectly fine. Acetone requires an oxidizer to burn (usually the atmospheric oxygen) so any spark completely immersed in the fluid can't cause a reaction. There's also enough fluid there that any heat produced by the battery probably won't make the whole cup of acetone reach its autoignition point (hot enough to combust without a spark). It's actually a bit of an additional safety measure to submerge it the acetone. The lithium in the battery can react explosively with atmospheric oxygen, or even the oxygen bound in water (water is constantly dissociating and reassociating in liquid form). Acetone won't react with the lithium.

I'm really enjoying my Pixel 5. First phone over $500 I've ever owned. It's very fast, twice as light as my old phone, a bit smaller which I actually like. But tall so reaching buttons at the top is awkward. Camera is fantastic, and when coupled with my gimbal it's truly cinematic. Wireless charging works with my eBay 10 dollar Qi charger I bought almost 6 years ago.
