I'm with you on that. Last year's phone always has the best deals and best bang for buck. I'm not even talking about buying used. Still buy brand new, just buy the previous generation model. I got the Pixel 6 one month before the Pixel 7 came out and I got it for around £300 brand new which is less than half the cost from when it was launched.

Surely, very few people upgrade their phones each year these days. I'm just now looking for a new phone to replace my Huawei P30 Pro from 2019 and even that feels like extravagant consumption. It still does everything very well.

Huawei P30 is GOATED! One of the best andeoid phones ever and the last huawei phone with google services. I wish huawei still have google services. Im using pixel to replace huawei now.

Most people don't upgrade every year and you don't need to 🤷🏽‍♂️. My mum for example is on a iPhone 13 pro which is 3 years old and it's still works perfectly. My sister as well is on a Huawei Mate 20 Pro which is 6 years old now and it works but is getting on a bit she's needing an upgrade now but for now it'll do until she gets a new phone

Pixel 8 is still a beast, the black one looks clean with the camera visor. The smaller size is nice too. Upgraded from the 6a and even then the upgrades weren't crazy outside of the refresh rate and charging speed.

There are two more camera differences: 1. The front camera got an autofocus lens over the fix focus lens of the Pixel 8. 2. the new ultra wide camera offers a really impressive macro mode. That being said, I would have waited for the Pixel 10 if I hadn't gotten such a good trade in deal for my Pixel 6 (445€ after paying effectively around 470€ for it in 2021 after selling the included Bose headphone). 😬

I'm surprised how many people deal with performance. The Pixel was never about that. The Pixel makes a lot of sense to me compared to other devices in terms of signal, new modems and reliability. iPhones and Samsungs have always been perfect at this, and I'm glad that now pixels are too. The only thing that I noticed that bothers me and where I can feel the weak processor is when focusing in the video. The competition is far ahead. Otherwise, it's a great phone with the best haptic response on the market.

I have a pixel 9 and I've tested this out in different situations that I've never noticed this phone overheat no matter what I do compared to the previous generations of pixels, this is the best phone

Pixel 8 to Pixel 9. I have found the overall operation smoother than the 8. Might just be optimized better. Big difference in the speed of the camera and less issues with heat. My 8 had a hardware failure less than a year in and that could be part of the performance difference. The 8 was prone to getting quite warm and I haven't noticed any heat issues with the 9.

The Pixel 8 is £352 sim free from Voxi in the UK. The cheapest the 9 has been is £572 but now it's back up to RRP (£800). Considering the minimal differences the price difference is mad.

I upgraded from Pixel 8 to Pixel 9. Google says if my Pixel 8 is in good shape, they will credit me $490 US$. That was my first reason. However, after 5 days, I am very happy with the Pixel 9, and there is no buyer's remorse. One simple like, I love how the 9 feels in the hand, the weight, and it seems to process everything better...to me. The camera is amazing as it was with the 8. It's just a better phone for me. Phone calls and texting seem to be without interference. There is no way I would want my Pixel 8 back, Pixel 9 is a clear winner. Oh, there are zero heating up issues with the Pixel 9.

I think all phones are way way overpriced. The upgrade is worth the price without question for me. Pixel 9 is an upgrade that is felt and seen. Plus, Google gave me $490 for my Pixel 8. You will not be disappointed. This is the best phone I have ever had in my life. In my life.

To me the biggest upgrade isn't even the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, pixel 9 stays cool while pixel 8 gets hot so easily, which effects the user experience a lot, I'm not the only one noticing that right?

On first use for me, the pixel 8 got very hot that it was a concern but 6 months later, it has settled down to a more acceptable temperature in my opinion.

I have a pixel 5, and I need to get a new phone. Limited-ish budget though --- should I splurge on the pixel 9 (I really like its aesthetic and design and the camera seems a lot better looking at specs) or go cheaper for the pixel 8 (which is probably mostly the same but I don't like the design as much, and it may not last as long)? Neither phone is worth my upgrade from my pixel 6 a and here's the reason it's a Samsung chip. Everyone knows that the pixel 10 will be made by tmsc the number one chip Foundry in the world. I expect a major upgrade and the pixel 10 series it's why I'm willing to wait till next November to get a pixel 10A the Samsung phones are fine but they're not revolutionary like tmsc chips are

Y'all put way too much hope on the G5 being this completely different and better chip just because tsmc fabbed it, all while Google will still make the chip mostly for user experience and AI tasks. The chip will not be too much faster than the G4 because the G4 already used Samsung new 3rd gen 4nm fab process which already in itself is more efficient and managed heat better than the g3 the only thing I see improving with the tsmc made G5 is more efficiency/heat management and slight better performance from the CPU and newer GPU but not at apples A series levels. It doesn't matter who makes the chip it matters how the manufacturer wants to use the chip along with what they prioritize.

Honestly couldn't give 2 figs about the fingerprint reader. I don't think it looks particularly premium either. I moved to Pixel for a Pixel 3 and my reasons were because it was a decent small phone with a nice clean, no fuss interface. Pixels have been getting bigger, much more expensive and just more me too. At the moment, the UI is the only thing that's left to prefer it over other models. I'll stick with my Pixel 7 until they stop updating it. Pretty much everything is going in the wrong direction for me. Not that any other manufacturers have caught my attention either. It's just a sea of dull. I don't need a fantastic camera and I don't play games. I just need a phone that's great as a communication device, is well built and have a few years of updates.

The more I saw the Pixel 9 in these shots the more I realized, it’s just the damn looks and that might be reason enough. I don’t think the Pixel’s been a nice looking phone since maybe the 2? It just looks so generic and boring and they just kept their dumb camera visor for too long. The Pixel 9 looks incredible.
