Apart from the Cameras pixels are so trash. I have been using Pixel 8 pro since January and it performs like trash compared to other phones in the price range. It cant even play Brawlstars without overheating. It can't even fit instagram reels properly on the screen. Batterylife is trash, chargingspeed is trash. Overheats when using android auto with navigation. FORCED NAVIGATION!! Cant even turn it off so everytime I step in the car gets super hot and battery drains like hell. Screen constatly dims because on hotness so the high peak brightness also is usleess. This phone is so bad it actually feels like a scam for a €990 phone. Apart from the camera everything else is straight up trash. Then they also gave the google ai features to Samsung so that also doesnt make it stand out in anyway 😂. Good camera and its still trash quality on instagram and snapchat. Unless youre taking pictures 24/7 in the normal camera app this phone is useless

I'm in Australia. I went out today to do some research on a new phone. I've only owned an iPhone. I discovered that many retailers here are offering the 8 for around $1200, which is nowhere near a new iPhone price, while you can buy the 8A normally for around $850. However, they are offering $300 cashback and $149 trade-in on my iPhone. That's around $400! Here in Australia, that is super cheap. So, it is very hard to consider much else at this stage.

My Pixel 5a just kicked the bucket last month, so i was totally expecting to have to outright buy a new phone. I was dead set on getting a Pixel 8, but Google blew my mind when they offered me a brand new 7 Pro as a straight up replacement for my dead 5a!! Needless to say i was floored. Been loving this phone since i got it. I agree with you here, tho. I'd totally get the 8 over the 8a, even if i had to pay $50 more to do so.

How did they offer you a 7 pro? Was your 5a still in warranty?
@mikemike00006 ай бұрын
@@Giant_Dwarff I bought the 5a new at launch, and even with the extra year Google added on after the issues with it were brought to light, I was way out of warranty. I don't know if it's because I was/am a Google Fi customer or not, but they initially told me that they'd be sending me a 6a as a replacement, which I was happy with. After a little more back and forth with support, the rep told me that there is an 'inventory issue' with the 6a, and that I am being upgraded to a 7 Pro as a replacement. I had to rub my eyes and re-read what they sent me! Haha! 6 days after I sent them my bricked 5a FedEx delivered a brand new, sealed in the box 128gb Obsidian Pixel 7 Pro! I was sceptical until I actually had it in my hands! I did some reading online and saw that I'm not alone. There's quite a few people that have received the 7 Pro as a replacement for a bricked 5a. I felt like I won the lottery! It's a great phone!

Same! Except They only offered me a refurbished phone same pixel 5a for 65 to 70$..... um.....Absolutely not how did they offer you a better phone? Did yours die before warranty was up? I'm on google fi and got mine straight from Google fi site
@mikemike00006 ай бұрын
@@IDrawToothpicks I honestly have no idea. When my 5a died, I went to the Fi site and used the chat feature to talk to support. They went thru all the diagnostics with me to attempt to salvage it, but I had already done all that. They said I was out of warranty, but they'd replace it with a 6a. I was super happy to hear that, but after a few more mins they came back and said that there was an inventory issue on their end, and that they'd be upgrading me to a 7 Pro. I didn't believe them. I have shit luck to begin with, and I'm also a jaded/cynical person so I figured it was BS. I sent off my 5a to the service center, and a day after they got it I received an email telling me my new 7 Pro had shipped and was on the way. A few days later I was opening a brand new box and activating it. 🤷🏻♂️ Honestly, I was still super happy with my 5a and had zero intentions of upgrading. Although I'm very happy with this thing, I really loved my 5a!

Fun fact: I got a coupon code from Google One that took $250 off of the Pixel 8, minus another $100 from trading in my 6a. So I got the phone for about $350, or about the price of their cheapest A-Series phone (I forget which one that was. I wanna say either the 4a?). The A-series lineup was honestly a really good idea when it started and seemed like a genuinely good deal at the time, especially for an entrypoint into the Pixel series. But as time went on, the phones have been getting steadily more expensive, creeping dangerously into flagship territory, and with how often the actual flagships go on sale for around or less than the price of the A-version, it's becoming less and less of a good deal. Since we like tech hot takes around here, I'll drop this one: I think the 8a or the 9a will be the death of the A-series.
@annurissimo10826 ай бұрын
When you put it like that, at that price point, it really makes no sense to get an A series. How'd you get such a large discount, though?

@@annurissimo1082 I've been subscribed to Google One (the cheapest plan, even), and I got an email in my inbox with a $250 coupon, plus I got more taken off from trading in my old phone. Beyond that, the Pixel 8 has been going on sale pretty often lately on its own.

Back when the phone launched, Fi was running deals to get the phone for like $300 off unlocked. Solidly agree, the A-series serves no point at the moment as long as you aren't requiring a new phone during a sale-less period and can't wait.

The Pixel 5 a was better than the normal 5. It had a headphone jack and fingerprint scanner on the back, which was awesome to unlock it while you were getting it out of your pocket. It also had a better screen but was easily handled by 1 hand, while maintaining the awesome Pixel 5 camera. Whenever I see these new pixels reviews from Pixel 6 to 7, to 8, I see they deviated from their main selling point. The good old times of Google Pixel XL to Google Pixel 2 XL panda are long gone, they even offered FREE Google Photos space if you get Pixels, now they don't offer anything. They're just another apple & most of us won't but pixels anymore, which is sad because there's no other alternatives.
