Highway 61 is my favourite Dylan LP, Darkside of the moon is my favourite all time record and must be on the list As it’s there biggest selling album.

Yeah I really don't understand why these albums didn't make the list either. It gave me 3 Beatles albums, even 2 Radiohead albums but only on Dylan and only one Floyd. Very odd. I don't think the Google overlords are quite ready for rock n roll yet!

Hey - coming back to CD's in the past few months and just found your channel - it's great! I noticed the CDs you show in this video are in protective sleeves, but some behind you are in jewel cases. Just curious as to the rhyme or reason. Thanks!

Hi Mat no Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix?

Agree what you say regarding Pet Sounds, I own the album myself and rarely play it. Apart from the classic God Only Knows song, I struggle with all the rest🤔
@freeman10000 Жыл бұрын
God Only Knows is amazing but the rest of the album is pretty underwhelming.

The Velvet Underground album with Nico, is one of the finest records of all time. You Sir, must procure one at once!
@mattsmusichannel Жыл бұрын
Can't argue with that. In fact I've just ordered a copy!
@Gary-fk9pu Жыл бұрын
You really should get the third album as well, which really is just called 'The Velvet Underground. Also the 'Velvet Underground Live 1969' (on CD sold as volumes I &II) is the greatest live album ever made.

I am underwhelmed by London Calling. I have the CD, maybe it will grow on me?

The most essential cds are the ones with bonus tracks of high quality. There's surprisingly an older bias (most of the albums were out before I was born). If you look at sales or cumulative units sold on cd, there'd be a lot of late 90's discs that haven't aged well like Hootie and the Blowfish, Ace of Bass, Celine Dion, Tony Bennet, R.E.M. The only ones I agree with are Miles Davis "Kind of blue" and Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours". Marvin Gaye's "What's going on" is solid but I prefer this 60's stuff. I'm more into soul and jazz. Dr. Dre was really a stretch. For rap, I'd choose either A Tribe Called Qwest's "Low end theory" or Super Lover Cee/Casanova Rud "Girls, I got 'em locked. Never heard of them? Check out that late 80's east coast duo. I'd even consider Prince Markie Dee and the Soul Convention's "Free".

Love a bonus track! Especially the hidden ones that would play if you left the CD running after the last listed track finished. Low End Theory is a fantastic album, definitely a case to be made for that one being included. Don't know Super Lover Cee/Casanova Rud so cheers for the recommendation there. I'll check them out!

No who, Hendrix or Neil Young? Who’s Next, Electric Ladyland and After the Gold rush. A lot of good ones on the list. Love the Beatles but three are a lot even though all three are excellent on CD.

Yeah I tend to agree. Having 3 albums by one band on a list like this and then leaving out so many great, iconic albums is strange. I don't know how Google worked out the list. Would be interesting to know.
@freeman10000 Жыл бұрын
Even worse, no King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Seriously good band, check them out.

'The Dark Side of the Moon' is a very overrated album. I'm happy that Google chose 'Wish You Were Here', couldn't agree more...

I am 42 now and even for me this list sounds very stuck in the past! I agree with nearly every entry on the list, but what about i.e. Linkin Park's 'Hybrid Theory' or 'Meteora' ? Those two left a 'deep' imprint on a whole generation and are still to this day among the top 5 most streamed albums on spotify. Metallica's 'Black Album'? Tool with 'Lateralus'? Oasis and '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?'? No Greenday, R.E.M., Smashing Pumkins, Soundgarden and so on and so on... But to be fair witha finite list you always have to leave stuff off ... I personally can hardly listen to 'Nevermind' anymore as I played it way to much and I got 'Petsounds' by the Beach Boys only to move on from it. As far as I understand it the 'Petsounds' album is a 'must-have' just because of the influence it had on other bands, which I personally disagree with, just you influenced a band I like doesn't mean that I should own that album ..

My first jazz CD was Britches Brew. I agree with most of the list, but I was never a massive fan of Pet Sounds. One of my favourite albums that is never on any list is Entrance, by Edgar Winter, an amazing album. Not a big Clash fan.

what are you waving in our faces, where have the jewel cases gone?
@mattsmusichannel Жыл бұрын
Haha, I'm waving the plastic wallets I have been putting my CDs in to save space. My flat is small and my CD collection is growing, so in order to carry on being able to collect, I have been swapping out the bulky jewel cases for thin plastic wallets. If you're interested, I made a video on the pros and cons of doing this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4Lce2WHfNl-j5Isi=Z15TLpovsYU-hgCz

I don’t know about The Beatles 11th album Abbey Road would be on my own list because John Lennon was leading the group across the street when at the time he was grumbling about everything including The Beatles, hardly taking the high road imo.

This is true, and I take your point. For me though, despite the infighting, the album itself is monumentally good! Each to their own though.

Both AC DC records should have made the list. Of the two I only have Highway to Hell. Have to say that of the list, I only have a few of them but knew all of them except for the Kendrick Lamar. Also, even though I listen to a lot of music of all kinds, I only buy CDs that I know will get repeated listens.
@mattsmusichannel Жыл бұрын
Very wise. I agree that a music collection should consist of music you really love!
@freeman10000 Жыл бұрын
Even though AC/DC is one of the most successful rock bands of all time they are still somewhat underrated. Kendrick Lamar's to Pimp a Butterfly is a superb album even if you don't like hip hop it is worth a listen.
