If I missed it forgive me but I didn’t hear you say anything about the speed or storage capacity. When the new chromecast devices were released a few years ago I got them & really liked the UI & many of the features. However I stopped using them because they were just WAY too slow & even though I didn’t have a lot of apps I kept running out of storage space, especially after an app would update. I’m super interested in this but they have to fix those key issues if I’m going to put down $100 for a device.

@@LukeVesty apparently this new device is only 20-30% faster, and is half as fast as an Nvidia shield TV from 2015... It's not even an improvement, the apple TV is nine times faster and the tensor G1 is 6x faster, which is a chip made by Google they could've used in this just like apple uses their own phone chips in the apple TV.

@@LukeVestyI just got a chromecast 4K a few weeks ago because it was free and can’t say no to that. I think it could easily with optimizations run such stuff smoothly. while it does lag, I feel like a lot of that is just google not optimizing the software enough. ya the hardware is weak but good example I read somewhere is the chromecast 4K isn’t using the GPU for any 2D rendering of the UI elements and I don’t know if that’s true but the way it likes to hang and partially render sometimes when the CPU is loaded fully makes me think it’s possible!

$100 is pretty greedy. Either way though I am looking forward to this device. I have one of the older 4K Chromecast dongles and the quality is not the greatest consistently. Having a on-screen menu with a remote is a nice upgrade. I don't always like being on my phone I think it creates bad habits.

I bought Chromecast TV dongle actually few of them for my 3 TVS , when they released & LOOOVIN it , since i am YTTV & Google user for decade works GREAT together with great feathers , Definitely gonna upgrade with few if these for my TVS around my house , CANT WAITT , they talking about few Chromecast for couple of years now , now is official & this is looks GREAT.. the ONLY thing wish they was coming with upgraded better & bigger lookin remote 2 not fan of the remote that much 🔥🥰👌🤘

Honestly Walmart sells a new 2024 of the ONN 4K pro streamer. it's $50 and very similar in specs and features to this unit. Better off going with it and getting basically the same thing and save $50 while you are at it.

@@MrComicalmoodydan The Walmart box has 10 100 ethernet the new Google streamer has gig ethernet. I also don't see any mention of Matter support for the Walmart box which the new Google box does have. The new Google box also supports DTSX which the Walmart box does not. Usb-c instead of type A as well. As we get more information on the internals I think we'll find some more key differences. However, as it stands right now I have to agree that Google's value proposition doesn't do it for me.

I have Google TV built in to my Sony TV but it feels like it doesn't have enough processing power. Many apps have frequent stuttering issues. I wonder if using this device out of one of my HDMI ports would solve the issue. As it stands now, I have switch over to a Roku stick to watch anything on Peacock.

I'm also have Sony TVs with Android TV + Google TV interface... However, I prefer to use them with my Chromecast With Google TV instead of using the TV's own interface, as the latter is much more slower and more limited. This is my suggestion, don't use the Sony's Google TV built in, use a Chromecast WGTV, it's a way better and you will also receive many more updates to the system.

This is a common issue with most TV's even those without Android OS. My parents have a Panasonic TV only a few years old but the Plex app on it cant play x265 videos but the Chromecast with Google TV stick can! Ridiculous that a $99 ($AUD) device trumps a $3000 TV! I had to get the Shield PRO because the Google TV with Chromecast wont pass through Atmos soundtracks from Plex but the Shield does. I hope this new Google Streamer can do it! But anyway it looks like the Hub part acts the same as the Nest Hub where it will only show you Nest Cameras but any other camera brands you have in your Google Home App wont

Would love to know about speed and so forth. Current ones are great, but really slow. I stopped using AppleTV as this was just easier. But it's getting slower and slower. Oh and can one hide it behind the TV because that was actually a good thing.

That price increase is kind of insulting, the remote is practically the same but with the button layout changed, the thing itself is much larger, the spec upgrade after a 4 year wait is minimal at best and basically on par with devices that came out years ago. The only real new thing is a find a remote button, waste of space ai stuff yet not a ai upscaler like the shield just a joke through out.

You don't know what you're talking about... The Google TV Streamer brings a bunch of new features and specs, like more memory, Ethernet port (you can see that in this video), USB port, and so on. You may not be interested in any of these, but many people, like me, are willing to pay more for these features.

I think Google should have gone in the direction of making a streamer with some unique feature(s). Maybe, they could have put a DVD or Blu ray player in it or a video capture card.

I have an LG A2 oled and you can disable all ads on it, my old samsung tv has the chromcast with google tv and everytime i use it i get 10 ads shved into my face

Disappointing to say the least. Pro Tip....if you want those specs for probably less money, Walmart beat them to the punch. Their Onn Google TV 4K Pro has: Exact same chip as this upgraded model. 32GB of storage 3GB RAM Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth USB 3.0 port 100Mbps ethernet port And it acts as a google voice assistance with its built in speaker.

@@LukeVesty 3 gig vs 4 for streaming is fine. The mass market is not going to be doing enthusiast level downloads of apps and games. Its not a multitasking device. 3 gigs is great for UI and streaming. Not even netflix 4k streams come any where near close to saturating a 100mbit port. We arent downloading massive files to an SSD. For streaming, 100mb is more than enough since no streaming service offers bitrates (even for 4k streams) that come close to needing more. At this point, that number is a 'feel warm and fuzzy cause its bigger' metric. Not a practical one. And for HALF the cost, you also get a find my remote feature and its also a built in google assist speaker. Ultimately, walmart did a great job on keeping the parts that dont need to be massive specs due to an understanding of the devices use cases by most people, practical to not waste cost for the sake of 'big numbers'
