*Google Search helps you find whatever you're looking for.* We've brought this idea to life in a short video with the backdrop of the #partition of India, showing how human passion and hope can overcome time and borders. In this story, a woman in India reunites her grandfather with his childhood friend (who is now in Pakistan) following six decades of separation with a little help from Google. We hope this is a reflection of the many stories of #reunion. If you find it moving, share it-and tell us your own story in the comments. #GoogleReunion Watch all the films here: goo.gl/R83hcF

My father once told about his old friends. He had a childhood friend from Hindu community in Pakistani Punjab before Indo-pak partition. My father does not remember his original name but everyone used to call him Kaka Singh. My grandfather and Kaka singh's father were very good friends as well. After the partition, Kaka's singh family migrated to India and they gave keys of their house to my grandfather before leaving. They told my grandfather to take care of their house perhaps if they could return in 5-10 years, and in case, return is not possible, they can claim ownership of their property. Kaka's singh family however did keep in touch with my family for atleast 10-15 years. My father joined Pakistan Air Force, and surprisingly, kaka singh father told my grandfather that his son has also joined Indian Air Force. Perhaps two good friends did fought with each other indirectly in 65 or 71 wars. Kaka singh got married first and they sent wedding invitation to my grandfather. Similarly, when my father got married, my grandfather sent invitation on the other side. After that, no communication happened between the two families. My father is now Mash Allah 75 years old but he doesn't know, whether his childhood friend Kaka singh is still there somewhere in India.

An Indian friend showed me this ad. I'm embarrassed to say that I couldn't hold back my tears. I'm Australian, mixed race, half Aussie, half Palestinian. I couldn't help but think how stupid political and religious divides are when cutting off our innate humanity, no matter where we come from. Most people cycle through commercials when watching their favorite shows. I'd cycle through my favorite shows to watch this commercial. It was truly inspiring 😊

Idk what the worlf thinks but being a Punjabi having a part of your state there. I see no difference in both the countries, not to forget the 'Wagah border'. I wish we could reunite but ik its near to impossible but the least we can do is improve our relations. . *(I request you if you're gonna reply don't bring any damn argument in my reply regarding border conflicts hindu-muslim conflicts and all please🙏)

it wont be the same though since the elderly that lived in the days of united india. they wont be on earth and will never be united by their loved ones. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH PAKISTANI PEOPLE AND NOTHING WRONG WITH INDIANS. THE PAKISTANI GOVERNMENT AND MEDIA ALONG WITH INDIAN MEDIA AND GOVERNMENT HAVE SPREAD LIES ABOUT EACH OTHER AND BRAIN WASHED THEIR PEOPLE TO KEEP THEM HATING THE CROSS BORDER COUNTRY AND STOP REUNIFICATION. i am a indian and i know pakistani people since in dont live in australia where there are indians and pakistani. pakistani and indians are the same. ditto copy of each other not just brother but like twins. no every pakistani is aterrorist and not every indian hates pakistani's. however we atleast allow people to visit each others country since its impossible to get visa to visit neighbouring countries

আমি বলেছি "1947 partition is a cruelest part of indian history" আমি বলেছি এইটা অনেক নিষ্ঠুর ছিল কিন্তু আমি বলিনি যে এই বিভাজনের প্রয়োজন ছিল না।

Only those who have migrated from Pakistan can really understand the real essence of this ad. My grandfather came to India after partition. When the news of partition broke, locals muslims, who were very close to my grandfather and other relatives, promised that they will protect us...save us. They did the same. My grandparents came to India safely. Initially visa process was very easy. My grandfather's best friend (a muslim) came to meet him. He cried when he saw his friend and kids living in a refugee colony. He used to visit frequently until the visa law became very strict. Then, they all used to send letters and dryfruits etc. For me this ad is believable...... and I don't bother what entire Pakistan thinks or entire India believes.

That's very true. My grandparents moved to India from East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh) shortly before partition before the riots could fully break out. The neighbors and local muslims were very helpful and supportive. We still have people we know there. Very believable. I guess it's all about our perceptions and what kind of human beings we are, regardless of our religion, community, cast and creed :)

My grandfather was also from Lahore and he used to tell me a lot of stories from that place. He is in heaven right now, but had he been alive I would have definetly taken this step to atleast make a call across the border and made him talk to someone from there. Google do play a very vital role in our lives.

The old man from the Pakistani sweet shop is Mr. M S Sathyu, a very senior director and theatre personality. He had directed "Garam Hava" in 1973, one of the first and only films that highlighted the plight of Muslims in India post-partition. Interestingly, he is a brahmin hindu from Mysore (Karnataka, India). Ha has also directed several plays. One of my first plays in Mumbai was for him, called "Moteram". He is exactly like how he is in the ad. The smile, the walk, the look.. Sathyu sir, respect!

I think for me, the reason I am so passionate about technology is because it can subtly create magical moments that matter like the one in this video. Technology can knock down barriers and bring us all closer together. Google said it best: Partitions may divide countries, but friendships find a way. A touching story about the power of information in improving people’s lives.

Hindu Muslims have been living for together for thousands of years happily before the British Invaded India and formed anti Muslim hindu parties in India and later divided india into two different parts..its not hard for us to understand how we have been fooled by the british in the time and today we have been left in loss not the british, when its a war between the two nations ask our politicians to let their kids go onto the battle feild just like other regular army men and see if they leave their children to die like our army men did daily... please realise that we are being played by our politicians who are ruled by the white suprimacy of the divide and rule policies.

I am from Azerbaijan. In WW2 the father of my grandfather had been captured by german troops. From that time no one heard about his name and no one knew what happened to him there, until my father decided to find him. Later, we found out that he got freed after the war ended and he went to Turkey. Although he wanted to come back to his country, Turkish government did not let him to do so, because all prisoners were killed by paranoid soviet Russia. He stayed there and years later married again. His oldest daughter told us the whole story. Her name was Jevahir, the father of my grandfather named her after his wife in Azerbaijan. And his surname was Yetimoglu (Son of orphan in both turkish and azeri). He used to be called like that back in Azerbaijan by his friends. When my father searched for Jevahir in hope of finding someone he found Jevahir Yetimoglu. He immediately realized that she is his grandfathers daughter. We travelled to Turkey to visit them, they told us everything about his life, thoughts and acts. Unfortunately, he died 5 years before the fall of SSR. Otherwise he could have seen his children..

A deeply affecting ad that stresses the more creative and benevolent uses of the internet. Some commenters here speak of the possibility of India and Pakistan becoming one again. That may sound outlandish( no pun!). If the two countries can become friendly neighbors like the U.S. and Canada, that alone will be a monumental achievement for them. Though it too remains a distant dream as of now, it's worth working for.

Such a touching ad, and what wonderful acting by the two "old friends"... the raw emotions portrayed by them look so genuine! Reminds me of my grandmother's recollections of her youth in West Bengal before the partition forced her family to move to Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). I cannot imagine the trauma and the pangs of separation faced by those who had to flee from their homes back then. Thank God for modern technology that we are not completely cut off from those who we love.

I rarely comment on videos, but I had to with this. I'm an Indian-Buddhist, but my best friend is a Pakistani-Muslim (we're both born and live in Britain). We're literally like brothers and we know each others family. We celebrate and dine together during Eid, Christmas, Diwali and New Years too. We always talk about how we'd be like when we're old along with other members of our lil gang, and this video reminded me of this and I couldn't help but feel emotional. This is probably the reason why I have a deep mis-trust for politicians and nationalism, cos they eventually lead to dividing people more than they should. Hopefully, a day will come when not just Pakistanis and Indians, but humans in general can let hostility go for the better and let friendship, support and love flourish. A lot more can be done if we all got a long.
