Nice truck, insane prices on new trucks though. As for being road legal, you've got the tractor trailer license portion covered. What you may also be required to have is the truck registered with IFTA and placarded with the company name and gross weight registered to haul. They keep changing requirements, but I'd suggest checking with one of the companies that obtains permits for truckers instead of calling the motor vehicle department.

What if you fastened some wood 4x4's to the bottom of your concrete blocks with concrete anchors in counter-bored holes, or long Tapcons? That way it's a one-person job to load and unload, and you can drive faster since they won't be swaying, or possibly slide on the forks. Alternately, you could just add some wood rings around the concrete block to fasten riser blocks to the bottom, or use some steel banding

The 10 spd auto trans is as close to bulletproof as you could want- know one crazy who built a racing Chevy C10, a '68, 468 BB- with that 10 speed and paddle shifters; he cot the trans temp up to about 375 deg drifting and it didn't get any higher till he quit- he scared the crap out of me two turns in. I'm all better now and can't wait to ride along again! FR

@@RRBuildings really makes those tranny temps go up though. Might not matter with a tranny cooler like you have but I was pulling about 7,000lbs with a 2000 Honda Odyssey minivan (so I was doing something wrong either way) and cruise control made the tranny fluid actually boil out the fill port in the top (which must've been loose originally).
@Garth20114 жыл бұрын
We use it too. It really depends on the skills of the driver. For most folks, it's likely not a good option as they won't know how to use it properly when hauling.
@Garth20114 жыл бұрын
@@cm01 Only if you let it shift too much in certain conditions which is when you either turn it off or set the speed to another speed to keep it from up/down shifting too often or simply find a gear and hold it there until the road is flat or conditions change to engage it again. Sometimes it's better to find a gear then set the cruise vs. find a speed and let the cruise shift for gears constantly. Less shifting equals less friction and temps. BTW, change transmission fluid and the filter every 30,000 miles. No modern transmission can last with 100,000 fluid changes.

What’s your Rear Axle Gear Ratio between the two trucks? A 3.73’s is Perfect for Ocassionally Towing (1/3-1/2) the time, 4.10 (1/2-2/3) the time and 4.30’s (all the time) and beyond that is ridiculous, you would be Amazed at what you can pull with those first two Axle Gear Ratios. You might not be the first Truck off the Line Towing with those First Two Axke Ratios, but they will get the Job Done No Problem and Still Won’t Break Stuff. Having a Class A CDL and Knowing Heavy Haul Trucks (& Heavy Equipment) and Gear Ratios I am always Amazed at what some of these Dealers Spec for Heavy Haul Trucks, most of them Over Spec Trucks for a Applications then it has No Highway Cruising Speed to it. Your Next Biggest Factor, Transmission/RPM is Next. I’m going to be Purchasing a Couple SRW & Dually’s. The Dually’s going to be Pulling Goosenecks and running with our Semis all the Time. I’m debating between Truck Manufactures currently. It was between Dodge & Ford as the New GM’s are Ugly, but I do like the Turn Signal Camera for City & Highway Traffic in that GMC. Dodge/Ram is up there though, our New Semi’s are Going to have Cummins and I try to stay with one Main Engine Manufacturer, same with our Heavy Equipment. The Look of the New Fords has Grown on me and they along with Dodge both make Trucks Up To 1 1/2 Ton Model’s. Our SRW will be 350/3500’s Due to ReSale and the fact that they will Occasionally pull a Gooseneck Trailer.
@Garth20114 жыл бұрын
With the 6 and 10 speed transmissions, manufactures are limiting the choices in axle gear ratios. You have to increase weight GVW's in order to get a certain option for gears while the 1/2 models have zero choice of gears. Sad...all due to EPA microscopes on particulates/emissions off the backs of the public and against all common sense for properly equipping a pick up truck for the work it has to do.
@Garth20114 жыл бұрын
@ I'm hearing some are getting class 8 engine rebuilds with only 400,000. A friend has a 2008 F450 PS that required a complete engine after 102,000 miles and $20,000. I have always been a 3.73 fan depending on the tire size. I'm with you on the EPA stuff and guess what, the Diesel standards increase again next year 2021 I believe and will keep changing until 2024. Unless you haul 70% of the time or greater, Diesel is not a good choice for those who want value in their dollars.
