@MrReasonablethinker actually the facts disagree with you. "In Pew Research Center surveys conducted in 2017, 37% of registered voters identified as independents, 33% as Democrats and 26% as Republicans. When the partisan leanings of independents are taken into account, 50% either identify as Democrats or lean Democratic; 42% identify as Republicans or lean Republican. The 8-percentage-point Democratic advantage in leaned partisan identification is wider than at any point since 2009, and a statistically significant shift since 2016, when Democrats had a 4-point edge (48% to 44%)." www.people-press.org/2018/03/20/1-trends-in-party-affiliation-among-demographic-groups/ And that has been the same for many years: news.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx

A powerful, pertinent quotation from one of our great authors! Thank you, will crow. I will definitely share this, and it speaks to Unfitproduct Airborne's sobering allegation that, "1930's here we come." The majority of the American people--by nearly three million--voted for Donald Trump's opponent, yet there he sits in our White House, due to the antiquated electoral college. The majority of the American people were against the elevation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, yet the balance of the Court has been tipped even further in favor of this totalitarian president and his political agenda and his whims. Trump insists he's for the people, perhaps his most glaring lie. He cares nothing for the will of the people. He's following in the footsteps of his favorite world leaders, whom he openly admires: Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un. Beware the roar of his crowds.

I disagree with Joe Scarborough and Mike Barnicle; Democrats are not weak, they have plenty of message. Fly-over, low-population middle states don't deserve to the have the same number of Senators as largely populated coastal states. Nebraska Senators Ben Sasse (R) and Deb Fischer (R) represent only 1.9 million constituents. Chuck Schumer (D) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D) represent more than 19.8 million constituents. Hardly seems like a fair distribution.

At least since WW2, Americans have always had presidents that their children can emulate and aspire to become. Why, oh why have we allowed someone into our White House that we would refuse to let into our private homes or even on our television sets. You say, well he used to be good looking. The truth of his poor character is written all over his face now. You say, well he was a businessman. Yes, and his daddy bailed him out many times, and he still had multiple bankruptcies. His daddy involved him in tax schemes from the time he was a toddler. You say, well he went to good schools. Yes, but there is a difference between going and learning. Many children with rich parents find themselves cast off into private schools when their parents nolonger want to be bothered. They frequently spend their time "acting out" as in reading Playboy, getting drunk or trying to get "laid". Trump missed the part about Puerto Rico being part of America, even though it's not a State. He also missed etiquette, grammar, empathy and civics. Frankly, any man who has relied his entire life on his personal charm to get things, usually lacks the toughness that true adversity necessitates. You've seen Trump turn in the blink of an eye from praising someone to "throwing them under the bus". Now, we have Senators silly enough to follow in his footsteps? I would never want today's children to aspire to be like any of them. McCain? Yes, definitely! All the rest? Definitely not!

Dems did nominate an SC justice...his name was Merrick Garland. How quickly you forget Joe. Plus, Dems are winning their battles by focusing on local issues. THAT'S what matters. LISTENING to the voters matters. That's why there's NO dem national message...nor does there need to be.

Joe's completely wrong. The defects of the Constitution are exactly what's wrong with our politics, specifically, Article I: it's insane that Wyoming, with a population under 300,000, has as much representation in the Senate as California. And that imbalance is reflected in the Electoral College--not to mention the states' "rights" to gerrymander, to suppress the vote, etc. And it's the grotesquely unrepresentative Senate that gets to approve Supreme Court nominees, treaties, cabinet members. Yes, amending the Constitution is hellaciously difficult, maybe impossible, but unless we can eliminate these defects and move to a system where every citizen's vote counts equally, any illusion of democracy will be a joke.

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is today and Kavanaugh in the new SCJ and will be there for 30-40 years. A Hiroshima type of liberal meltdown coming when SCJ Ginsburg retires and Trump gets to appoint his 3rd Conservative to the SC. Uh oh.

Ok, if the very specific Merrick Garland conditions (Senate and Presidency different parties and during a presidential election year) that McConnell is referencing haven't happened since the 1880s, is that because a procedural rule was drafted and implemented back then, or just because it didn't come up? I suspect the latter, but I'm not a historian so I could be wrong.

Dignity? Screaming down other human beings at there places of employment. Accusing someone of “gang” activity. Also, why can’t you just understand we are all acting tribal. It’s ugly on both sides but the party that is represented by the people who we’re bussed in to protest the appointment can’t speak of dignity.

Dems would kick someone like mcconnell out of the party because dems WANT to be fair and believe in compromise. Technically, it's a great idea but realistically it doesn't work unless ALL parties are willing to work together for the country.

McConnell needs to go back to 1789 when the US constitution was ratified. Our founders were wise enough to create a political system that would stand the test of time. Thus far we have survived many crises, including a civil war. Let's hope that we will survive Trump and the conservatives

Totally disagree. Democrats DONT need a turtle. We need senators with values and morals who ARE willing to collaborate and compromise. We even have that! We just need the same thing on the other side. I will never vote for someone who manipulates and gives 0 f***s about democracy like that disgusting turtle even if they do it for things I care about and even if it means losing. Voters have to stand up and vote for people that will represent our interests and values, not tear our country apart.

Beers for Brett. Irony is in his name. Brettanomyces, often truncated to Brett, are wild yeast varieties used in beers. They are real Gluttons in the sense that, given enough time, they will devour all types of sugar, therefore rendering the beer rather sour tasting and rich in alcohol. They add a quite musky smell to the beer too, often described as wet dog, horse blanket, stuffy old barn. The name suits him well.
