I almost find the 'mod/micros' menu on SF stressful to even look at. They've essentially smashed together mods, micros, *and* paid mods, with no way of shunning the content with a price tag. On F4, mods are still mods, and the micros are quarantined elsewhere... Never the twain shall meet. I hate that they've intentionally muddied the waters. They've forced us to put up with *grifters* as well as modders *and* a Ubisoft style storefront. I'm still seeing a weapon edit that just buffs health. And this chancer wants real money for that? Fuck right off. I was waiting for mods to essentially save/fix/improve SF before restarting a character to actually finish the story. But this is immensely frustrating and off-putting.

You are not at all out of line in your thinking. I said from the day BGS first released this content that $7 for one measly quest is outrageous. And, the issue is not just the size of the quest; it's an even greater issue that the Tracker's Alliance faction was already in the game, seemingly cut content that they now expect us to pay a premium to acquire! I also have issue with how they (Bethesda/Microsoft) are selling content not for real money, but these "Creation Credit" tokens... I'm concerned they might sell the upcoming expansion in the Creation store when it releases because the expansion is still not available for pre-order on Steam (or the Xbox store). Meant to be cynical and a bit angry, but hopefully isn't prophetic) ... *cut to ten years down the line, after a pretty-mediocre release of TES-6* ... "What's that? We _forgot_ to put in some form of Brotherhood (or any Assassin's Guild) in our exciting new game? So sorry, we'll get right on that." *like, a couple weeks pass* "Here you go, got our devs right on that for you. Costs money to get them to work on it though, since they/we were totally already working on the next game we wanted to do, and definitely not working feverishly to try and squash the 10 worst bugs that make the game literally unplayable (out of thousands of really bad ones that DON'T actively break your saves) so can ya give us 20 bucks? k-thx-bai" And then we load it up, get the quest to kill some grumpy ol' guy who totally isn't practically a carbon copy of Grelod (I'm mini-ranting here, spelling is not the point). Then you wake up in some kind of small little dried-up well with barely any furnishings, and a single person to eliminate as a result. (can't have the player have to go through an entire process of having to FIGURE out ANYthing here). Don't kill them and fight the person at the top of the well who threw you in, (and probably get script-killed, since we can't be TOO complicated now) and lose the faction completely. Or kill them and get access to small nondescript (read generic) hut out in the middle of somewhere. Get the big reveal, that you're entering the "Reign of Justice's" *big [though notably generic] camera sweep, and a few epic music chords*, this is gonna be DRAMATIC* ... "District Office # 0287"... Or whatever silly name they come up with, since they don't want to use any word that could possibly be construed as 'murder', 'assassinate', 'kill', or even 'target'. *this whole paragraph is meant to portray souless AI-like levels of emotion* "oh hey. welcome. those guys over on that that board? yeah go ahead and 'take care' of them... at your leisure. no hurry. thanks bye." *hundreds of generated quests later* "oh yeah. might have something big in store for you, since you're so good at this. go 'get' this specific guy, he's actually got some background history, we think he might be a former office-clerk with us, or something, I don't care, but check it out anyway. might even be an idea, to get him alive, for questioning, you know. You go and chase him down through three whole generic 'dungeons', and find a single journal-book (not voice acting, that's too hard) that doubles as a ledger, and implicates him in a whole anti-killers network of people trying to save all the people who end up on the Reign of Justice's contract-list, but have let a few actual people who needed to be assassinated for actively terrible deeds go, in the process. You get to the guy at the end of the third 'dungeon' which is just a slightly-larger house than average (like Honningbrew Manor), and he says something along the lines of "I can't believe what I've done" and offs himSELF... probably just by poison, because animating someone stabbing themselves, in a video game, is just GHASTLY THEN you get back from the first real mission in the faction, and tell whoever pays you your checks about it, and they get all serious and say. "Oh, we gotta look into this! This could be the end of society as we know it!" - [Net gain from entire faction so far: a single dagger that is actually pretty decent and nearly 1-shots anyone who is completely hidden and has high enough Stealth and One-Handed skills (you know, like any OTHER dagger in the game), and a slightly redder-hued light-armor set that indicates your an agent] Then you never hear anything more about it in-game again... Until a 'Creation' comes up... *Rein of Justice Chapter 001* _(implying they expect to make at least 3 digit's worth of these)_ *"The beginning, part 01"* ONLY 900 guild-coins!!!

You know. A narrative experience. The Mystress of Mystery holotape quest of Fallout 76 was actually better. Whatever one thinks of it, there was a story to follow with genuine characters, likely suffering some pretty intense psychological effects given the aftermath in W. Va., along with consequences in the (unfortunately prior to the player's entry) game world even if the player couldn't play through it as a character themselves and actively participate in the story and dialogue. Bethesda's overdependence on the radiant quest system is well known. Not as well known is the industry quest for the fully automated and/or AI generated RPG. Witcher 3 DLC side quest: Where the wolf and cat play Reward: A witcher steel sword and a possible followup quest depending on your choices Price: FREE.99

Honestly, this seemed like a very good prospective storyline. Adding a couple more factions to SF could have improved the quality of the game significantly. Tracker's Alliance being one and maybe something where you perform assassinations across the settled systems. Each faction, of course, should have dedicated hand crafted storylines. The Tracker's Alliance started off great, then became instantaneous dogshit after the 1st quest. There is no more custom storyline after the introductory mission and you can never get your revenge by capturing Hannibal. Could you have imagined having a quality cat and mouse game throughout the Settled Systems against a criminal mastermind? But, just like everything BGS produces lately, it's just another shallow cash grab with radiant quests galore. I refuse to buy DLC for this game. The game itself is barely above average, and there are days when I wonder why I bought it.

To Bethesda: if you're reading this, I do not buy paid-for mods (creations). Not for Oblivion, not Skyrim, not for Fallout...nothing. Give me a full-sized DLC or forget it. I have never bought, and will never buy, paid mods. Period.
@jclosed25164 ай бұрын
While I like the games (yes Starfield included), I fully agree with you and also never bought any payed mods. Even DLC's get some good inspection before I buy them. And I admit that a fair number of DLC's (like Far Harbor for instance) are worth the money. On that account I wonder how good Shattered Space will be. Anyway - Lucky enough there are lots of free and interesting mods on the Creation Club and, for instance, Nexus. So to have some fun with mods, you don't need deep pockets (or any pockets at all).

I played through once fully, finding every possible side quest and power leveling to get the highest tier of ship parts. With the faux choices and consequences, the only replayability comes from experiencing the game again with new builds and characters, but I do not have an atom of desire to replay this disrespectfully grindy game again, just to try a different build. NG+? To level up exponentially slower as you go while becoming a master of all where you can switch weapon types and play styles on the fly if you get bored.

You're not being hyperbolic. You're completely correct on this issue. Not to mention, everyone who does pay for it only enables Bethesda to continue down this path and get worse and worse. I get influencers buying to review and warn the public, but the public needs to stop with the 'oh it's just'.. or 'it's awful but I'll still give them the money'. Your money is a reward, never reward bad behavior. Tell them what you want with your money because it's the one thing they understand and they require it to stay afloat.

I lost it when you said "It's Horse Armour". The moment i saw this popping up in the Creations i just thought "Smart move to rip people off". They are releasing a new faction quest and then charge you for each tiny addition to it. This can go on forever. On one hand it is nice to see a little bit more backgound for the Trackers Alliance but otherwise the entire alliance is pointless, more of a tiny, bad copy of the Rangers.

I am already over this game, have been since late last year. I don't see myself coming back and am incredibly wary with any and all new Bethesda content. I also don't have high hopes for any new Elder Scrolls games since Todd said it would be an amazing RPG Sandbox, but I never wanted just an empty sanbox, i want them to have a story to tell and tell it well. Starfield didn't work for me on a lot of levels and last year I made the decision to not preorder pretty much anything anymore and try to spend my money a lot smarter and cautiosly going forward.
@Prophes0r4 ай бұрын
So, a little bit of quickly crafted quest, plus endless generated garbage. Tack on a price-tag, some "skins", and a base game gun with a new name and higher stats. ... How is this different than the rest of Starfield? I cannot remember being THAT bored by another game. I have put many thousands of hours into Bethesda games. I enjoy their worlds. The entire time I was playing Starfield I was thinking "I should really do some laundry." or "Is it too late to power-wash my sidewalk? Do I have a power washer or did I give it to my brother? I should get a power washer if I don't have one..." Starfield feels....maliciously tedious. It's like they brought in some PsyOps people after the writing and artwork were done, just to test the limits of what people would tolerate. It's like someone described what a Bethesda game was with one PowerPoint slide of bullet points, then an executive farmed it out to a D-tier mobile game developer. I can only remember returning 5 games. Ever. 2 were so broken that they could not run on a single machine I owned. 1 was a clear bait and switch that I fell for because it was $5. 1 was an accidental purchase that was trying SO hard to look like the game I meant to click on (and was $4 so I wasn't paying THAT much attention) And the last was Starfield. I haven't been hyped for a game since they ruined the Shadowrun games. (Nor have I used Kickstarter since then...) But even with ZERO hype or expectations other than "Be a Bethesda game with some interesting places to go find." I was still utterly disappointed. IMO, the whole point of a Bethesda game is to be doing something, then get distracted when you glimpse something that leads you astray, because that thing MUST have been placed there by a person, so there is SOME story to be found. The procedural generation completely removes that. That shed with 7 shovels, a sleeping bag, and 100 cans of tuna isn't some glimpse into the madness of some prospector who ruined their entire life searching for something that they could never find. It's just Structure.Shed4 > Object.Outpust.Tools.Add(5-9) > Object.Food.Cheap(3-10) No mystery. No story to find. Content for content sake. It doesn't make the world feel more full. It makes it feel fake and lonely.
@Notasheepleandneverwillbe23 күн бұрын
I bought the full game with all of the add-ons . And that gave me $10 to use in the creation store . I still haven't used it , I haven't seen anything that's worth spending my money on . The mods that are free actually have way more content and reward than the ones that you pay for .

Bethesda got spanked on paid mods before, it also severely divided the modding community (which Bethesda needs to keep selling games). It amazes me that they're like 'let's try this again!' I don't know who is currently making these decisions, but they're inept, destructive and need to be replaced.

I wasn't planning on buying it but as a world class contrarian, since you told me not to, I probably will now. ;) BTW, for some reason I've already got 1100 points to play with credited to my account. Damn Bethesda for trying to reel me in. :) Also, I earned enough MS Rewards points this week alone, to get $10 worth of creation points. None of this stuff costs me actual cash. People paying $7 for a cup of coffee is more egregious to me - but taking up a crusade for others is a fool's game that I've learned not to play. I never bought the horse armor. Or any skins from the Destiny Eververse store with Silver. Or any Diablo skins. I do have the ability to resist bad transactions.

Man I’m so mad I was hoping that the trackers alliance quests would keep going I really liked the idea of bounty hunting to further the quest line which prompted me to look this video up.. I’m so mad that this faction or whatever doesn’t even have a quest line and is being fed to us in pieces through transactions. Like this has totally annoyed me to the point I want to stop playing. I’ve beat the game several times already and just decided to do some of the side quests and this was the one I was really stoked about. Been doing bounty’s thinking I would be given another story quest soon but I’m like 20+ bounty’s in and nothing yet.. 😂 I had no idea there aren’t anymore story quests for the faction!!!

I wonder if Todd knows that he is not favoured by gamers anymore. Does he know, that his legacy has shifted into the Father of Microtransactions and ingame purchases, rather than the guy who makes good games. We all told him this would happen, when they made the Horse Armor DLC for Oblivion. They made them anyway. Who will buy the Microtransactions, if nobody is playing the game, Mr. Howard? Perhaps you should finish theShattered Space DLC package that people already paid for, instead of adding in new pay-walled content... But what do i care, I'm never buying any of their games at launch again after Fallout 76.

you said what i've been feeling. Bethesda putting official content on the CC hub bothers me. it's supposed to be for mod creators but they're sullying that intent with their microtransaction/mini DLC. AND pricing it way over what it's worth. if they want to release new content, put it out as DLC on the store page. what theyre doing is disingenuous.

I'm all for them releasing an episodic series of stories and monetizing each episode. However, they need to use common sense and base their pricing model on pre-existing digital entertainment products. Take TV series released on Amazon Video for example. If not flagged as a Prime video, you can buy the individual episodes at around $3 per. And they provide 45 minutes to an hour of content. If I were to create a series of quest mods and monetize them under the verified creations program, I would set my price so that when Bethesda tacks on their cut, what an individual would pay would be roughly 300 Credits, and the quest would last at minimum 45 minutes to an hour if the player explores and discovers everything I include. If I aim to release 10 episodes in the course of a year, once the final episode releases individually, I would also release a season bundle, which would include all the episodes at 2700 credits. I wouldn't expect many sales of that compared to the individual episodes, but some people like to get bundles when offered, so I would want them to have that option. Bethesda's problem is that in spite of wanting Starfield to last as a commercially successful endeavor for at least a decade, they are chasing short-term gain rather than potentially larger long-term gains. One of the Skyrim Verified Creations introduced a massive valley's worth of explorable content complete with weapons and armor, which added a significant amount of content. And it was generally well received. The modder responsible had already established a reputation for quality work, and that makes people not mind spending money for reasonably priced content. Bethesda needs to drop the short-term gain pursuit if they expect Starfield to enjoy anywhere near Skyrim's level of long-term success. The launch of the game itself in the lackluster state it was in cost them a lot of good faith. They need to earn back that good faith, but quarter and dollaring people with their official creations is not the way to do it.
