For people that dont have icons next to weapons and armor when using Valdacil's mod: You need to drop them or modify them in a craftbench in order for it to update and sort them and show icons next to them

Oh for sure which is a shame, the last time Bethesda designed a HUD for PC was Morrowind. So many games nowadays give us the option to pick and choose HUD elements, FOV options, mouse acceleration options, I don't understand why Bethesda can't be bothered to do this simple things. Outside of games in alpha stage, very few AAA games have their settings menu outside of the game anymore and I don't recall a game that didn't have a Brightness setting forever. It's not a big problem but It's a little bit sloppy honestly, especially since they are making the same kind of game for like 15 years now.

+GradeKunderK I stopped using fast travel on my second Fallout 3 playthrough. Now it's my default for all Fallout and Elder Scrolls games. They're so full of content you just miss too much teleporting around. Plus if you're playing with hardcore needs mods it makes your journeys feel much more epic.

This mod is broken with the new survival mode and the Automatron DLC which causes a CTD when any UI/HUD mod is installed. The CTD is isolated to the new Icons, which this current HUD mod does not support. There is a small fix created for the DLC called "County Crossing Crash Fix (Automatron)" on the Nexus, which changes the new compass/map icon to a generic Vault icon. The survival mod Icons will not be so easily fixed, you will have to wait for an update for DEF_UI that supports these new icons after the new patch is officially released.

the interface folder isint in data folder when you are using the Mod Organizer. You must go into the mod folder to find the interface folder. Fallout 4 > Mod Organizer > mods > DEF_UI > interface

Thanks a lot man! Also to add where to find that 'adobeflashplayer.exe' which is not there in interface folder you mentioned. You need to navigate like this: enter your Mod Organizer main folder From there navigate - mods\DEF_UI\HUD\select your aspect ratio folder that you picked in installation\interface and there you go. You have found HUDMenuset.exe Now there is more aspect ratio folders. Of course select aspect ratio folder that suit your needs. :) MO2\mods\DEF_UI\INV\common\interface is for settings.exe

I have to say FO4 plays up the style of the Pip-boy so hard it utterly cripples the UX, especially over longer periods of play. Everything is green. Color is one of the most powerful tools available to you as a UI designer. You see color so much faster and easier than miniscule shapes and 30+ character names of items. To drown everything out in green instead of giving, say, Chems a purple one is like not separating forks, knives and spoons in the kitchen drawer. Scrambling through them all in order to find what you want every time.

+Gopher, thanks, what a great looking mod, i have recently had a copy of the game bought for me and have resisted playing as i am in the process of modding the game, love the NV +NMM tutorials by the way,, helped me so much, totally clueless, never attempted that sort of thing before, and now, well i still scratch my head at times but other than that, love the scope that can be added to a game, if you do it properly these sort of games in my opinion will last you years with a couple of hours game-play per week. Hi Gopher, I'll start by saying excellent and informative video. I was able to run with this mod setup exactly as you have it with no problem until I attempt to click on any of the stacked items (Aid, Notes, Chems, etc). This causes a CTD. The only changes to settings I have made are turning off local time and resetting the font size to 23 (as recommended in an earlier post by Neanka). I have no UI mods other than VIS, with the module load order listed below (I believe these are all the same as you selected, except I chose to sort explosives to the bottom). They are at the very bottom of my load order: -Aid -Ammo -ArmorBySlot -CosmeticsByType -ExplosivesSortBottom -Junk+DEF_INV -Misc -Mods -NotJunk -Perks -Weapons

+mmdestiny I believe I have found the conflict for anyone else with this issue. ArmorsmithExtended Version 2.75 comes packaged with ArmorKeywords, HOWEVER that version of AK is out of date. If you download the newest AK and overwrite the files packaged with AE (which the author of AE actually now recommends on his mod's files tab), that appears to have fixed all my issues.

Fallowed instructions to the letter (as far as I know?) and weapons/armor don't have the little icons by their names. Aid, misc, junk, mods, etc. all do, though. Not sure what's up with that. Might be missing something? Have AWKCR, so that's not it.

Hello Gopher. I have used your guide to install the mods and rewamp my HUD and inventory. I have encountered a small issues. Instead of having icons when I loot I get names in brackets instead. Like this {{{silver}}} or {{{junk}}} and such. It looks fine in my inventory but I get those descriptions instead of icons like you have. Can you assist me on that? Gopher, I've been using Def_UI and Valdacil's Item Sorting forever and I can NOT get it to display the Item components as you have at 1:38 I have tried everything possible, and the closest thing I get is where Def_UI or Valdacil's I don't know what one is doing it will have something like Aluminum Can{{{Aluminum}}} I can't get it like yours. Where you point at the item and it just lists the components with a comma separating them. I even followed your video to the T. I have done everything exactly as you did. Could it possibly be another MOD that is conflicting and making this happen? I don't have any other mods that change Item sorting or anything like that.

when you install def_UI you must install both def_ inv and def_hud to get this.

Im in the same boat. Literally completely removed all mods and the game from my computer, re downloaded it, installed just these 3 mods on a brand new save. Doesn't work. I also did a manual installation and same problem. I seem to be having a problem with any mod changing the UI for some reasons though. Cleaner power armor hud doesnt work either. Other mods work fine.

littlefrank90 lol that's your own fault, you get mutiple settlements with free storage GIVEN to you, the mods work flawlessly, I have a 97 plug in load order with no conflicts. You can't just see something and say ooo I want that, and not do some research on how to properly install them. I'm willing to be you don't have f4se installed, or the unofficial patch..smh.

the reason it doesnt make any difference for you in which order you install def_inv and your sorting mod is because at 8:22 you choose the "wrong" option. you are asked if u already have an xml file or if you would like to use one from a sorting mod. you already have that xml as thats the option you chose in your sorting mod. they are both the exact same file (if there was no update) so of course you get the same result. you are actually supposed to take "i already have a sorting xml" when u choose to get your xml from your sorting mod. but nice reviews anyways as always. i used this mod since its very first launch as def_inv so it wasnt anything new for me but this mod and its original author deserve attention and respect and it saddens me what happened to Neanka.

Little bit of extra work and confusing for people who are kind of new to modding/file overwriting, but yeah he's basically overwriting (or in this case since he selected no, not overwriting) a file with the exact same file. Gopher's usually good about reading every option and testing them, so at least it worked out, but kind of a fail a bit there. Still nice to have someone who's already worked through the processes to impart their knowledge. Extra knowledge is a good thing. :)

Great vid. The way you explain things makes it easy to understand confusing things. question though. when you make a mod-clinic/or like videos, are these mods that you consider essential to everyone, or that they are essential to you, or is it that its just a good mod that you consider that everyone should consider?

As far as I know Gopher uses the Mod Vault videos to show mod that caught his eye, due to the fact that they match his play style or to the fact that it seems essential to to game. And Gopher uses Mod Clinic to help install the more tricky mods out there, the ones that really need some more attention while installing.

The junk option in valdacils mod does not just move items to other categories but it deletes the components from them (can be checked in fo4edit). Thought people might want to know this....

Whatever mod replacing the other's files is okay. Both are the same anyway. Both authors worked together. (Neanka, original author of DEF_INV and DEF_HUD has dropped the mods in Valdacil's hands now actually.)

Followed the video and honestly for the life of me I cannot get these mods to work together, I either get the icons in the inventory or I get the Component Tags in the HUD, or I don't get either. I can never get both. Ironically the compatibility patch for Beantown Interiors works better, as does the "VIS DLC Component Tags for DEF_UI" mod. so only some mod junk items, or DLC junk items thanks to a specially designed patch actually work. While vanilla junk items do not whatsoever. I really don't think DEF_UI and VIS are compatible without a patch.

Update: I got it working again. The problem was I followed Vortex's recommendation for the load order of VIS and Def UI. Disregarded it, and now it's working just fine.

Very likely a dumb question, but here goes. With Val's sorting mod, does the "weightless" or "reduced weight" options mean that those modifications carry over to your carry weight limits? So, for example, armor that normally weighs XX but with the weightless option, it now does not count against your carry limits? Gopher, thanks so much for all of your mod reviews, and specially your tutorial "how-to" vids.
