So I bought a go cart from the neighbor to build with my son. I want to replace the old torque converter which sits on the left side if you sitting in the cart but the small and big gear that are connected with the chain are on the right hand side. The torque converter setup is a coney industries and it says 20 on it but it’s rusty so idk honestly if that’s the series or not. But I want to up grade to a 30 series as I put a predator 212cc 6.5 motor on the go kart. What would be your thoughts? I’m new to this and am wanting some help.

i have one of these centrifugal clutches on my 6.5hp mini bike i got recently. I decided to take off the jack shaft because the bike's top speed was quite lower than I wanted (30 mph). After the jackshaft removal, I ended up burning up the clutch so bad, that it now has a blue hue on the metal 😂. I decided to put the jack shaft back on because it was going to be overall better and safer for the bike. Ive got a 30 series torque converter coming in the mail soon, and i hope that it improves the bikes lower end torque and overall top speed.

Depends on the total WEIGHT of the driver and kart. i would make a video proving so but i don't feel like shortening a chain just to make a point. I like that you actually SHOWED us what it looked like to burn a clutch* thumbs up to you *

I love all of these comments on here asking about moving this, lining up that, replacing engines, adding torque convertors, setting up your chain, etc, if you’re getting into go karts, you had better be mechanically inclined and be able to modify stuff and just make it work.

On the one I installed for a customer, I had to add 1" square tubing for spacers to raise the engine to get clearance for the axle sprocket and frame.

I have an older Yellow Jacket 2 seater that I want to install a torque converter on but the kart was designed for a clutch. There is an axle tube that goes all the way across therefore the sprocket is mounted very close to the wheel/tire. Trying to figure out the best way to use a converter on it without a lot of fabrication. I saw one setup where the converter sprocket was mounted outboard on the shaft instead of on the inside of the pulley. Do you think that would work for me? I've also seen jackshaft setup that may work too....Any input would be appreciated.

I have a yerf-dog with just front suspension (model 3033A) and I put a Predator 212 on it with the cheap $60 eBay 30 series TC and it vibrates like crazy up until top speed then its a nice ride, particularly the floor pan vibrates bad. Bolts and screws are tight, everything lined up, nothing out of the ordinary. I just ordered a brand new jackshaft for it just like the one it had from the factory. Hopefully that solves my vibration issue.

I have the same go kart with a 14 hp and same issue. I was looking for video to see how to install the series 30 and found this. I do have a 1 inch shaft though. I was wondering how fast your cart ran before doing the change over. Mine was scary fast once you managed to get it rolling. Thanks for the video just what i needed.

I'm in the middle of a 2 seater build I have a 420 engine 48 tooth live axle dual brakes double a arms air suspension all around with swing arm all lights horn battery and alternator 20x10-10 rear tires 16x8-7 front tires 4 point spocoro seat belts as I'm building it for parades and trails. I looked everywhere for a 40 series and found nothing not even on your site all I get is tav 30 series I have to much money tied up in this build and come to a brick wall. It should be tightened down with a set screw or a pinch bolt, you just need to loosen those and it will move on the axle. Alot of times an older kart will have some rust built up preventing you from easily moving it but wd40 and a mallet should do it.

Go power sport, got a 780 comet clutch from them. ,the clutch had 3 different color spring in it . didn't work well and they would not take it back.

I just purchased a Comet TAV 30 from you guys to mount on my go cart we bought a cheap one before and it was burning through belts like crazy my question is when I mount the new comet on there Do the driven pulley in the pulley that comes off the motor need to be aligned on the flat parts?

Yes, the flat parts of the pulley facing the engine side must be in alignment, this is done with spacers on the crankshaft between the engine and the drive pulley. Also, the belt has a flat side and a tapered side, the flat side must face the engine.

i just installed a series 30 clutch and torque converter on my little cousins kart. The belt mostly just slips on the clutch. It won't do more than a few mph and doesn't go anywhere at the slightest incline. I've tried all 3 pre sets and everything else i can think of. I can see the clutch start to squeeze, but it still doesn't grab the belt. The belt came new with the kit. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Pull the primary clutch and remove one of the springs wrapped around the weights. Had the save issue with my Baja mini bike. Took one of the springs off and it works great

If you have a clearance issue, you can raise the engine using 1"square tubing. Or add 2 pieces stacked for for more clearance

I had a "Rattler" model of this kart - it was surprisingly capable. Nice comparison of the clutch to torque converter... if you are doing any more than gentle cruising, torque converter is the way to go.

Where did you get your rear sproket??? From the angle I'm looking at it it is most likely keyed but looks like it splits somehow so you do not have to completely pull apart the entire back end to slide the sprocket off. Or am I incorrect and am seeing it from a bad angle??? If I am right do you know where I could scoop one up? Would make the swap I'm working on way easier to do. Its most likely a split sprocket, gopowersports sells them from 53t to 90t 35 chain, bmi karts and other karting places sell them for like 11 or $12

Why not totally eliminate the chain and sprocket and put the driven (aka secondary) sheave/clutch directly on the axle? You may have to play with the primary and secondary clutch sizes to get the right ratio but would be a more efficient way of getting the power to the wheels. Also would need a longer belt but there’s a million sizes out there since this is the type of set-up many 4 wheelers and UTV’s have, just a straight CVT setup. Maybe a secondary doesn’t exist that allows an axle to go totally through it?

It’s called a throttle cable, you hook it up to your pedal then on your motor there should be a little bolt near the throttle, you unscrew the bolt, put your throttle cable in and your done. Look up a video on KZbin for a better explanation. Just search how to hook up a throttle cable to a engine on a go cart

Sounds like the idle on your engine is too high and the clutch automatically engages when you start the engine.

make sure the belt is faced the correct direction. Most karts have a grove on one side of the belt and flat on the other. You'll want the directional arrows on the belt to be pointed towards the engine.

I may have already posted not sure, but thought I'd ask you guys. Will a 30 series hold up well with the tillotson 212 on a old school live axle streaker go kart. I know people are saying that the tillotson out of the box is like 10hp so wasn't sure if it needs to be the 40 series or not. I believe its a 30 series on mine currently it's an older comet one with steel plate that the back part is welded to and the engine sits on top of a that plate too. I don't think I have to worry about snapping it. Let me know what you guys think. I'd be doing the usual mods Cam ported head and different carb and maybe a offset key to bump timing a little.

Justin Milovanovic buy some new master links. If that does not fix it your chain is too tight.

make sure and I mean make sure your master link clip is facing the opposite direction of the rotation of the chain. you don't want the clip facing the same direction the vibrations alone from the kart and engine would cause the master link clip to fall off resulting in a broken chain at the master link. Be sure to look at it. The chain rotates towards the front of the cart so you would want the V shape at the end of the clip to be facing the back of the cart or toward the ground depending on how you put your chain on.

You'll want more than the 30 series, a 40 series or a 780 kit. The 780 kit is far more expensive and most people go with the 40 series torque converter for most big blocks.
