Excellent advice. I love KZbin. Someone has already done all the work, on virtually everything. Thanks for this.

You did a great job with this video. Right to the point and great comparison between gopro mike and the external one. Very practical video. Thanks.

This is an excellent video! Placing it under the tail or handle bar sure makes differences and it calls for one's taste. Now i know what to do.

Great info. Thanks also for showing where to get the mic. Having purchased one, all that's left is for me to upgrade my GoPro to one that accepts the GoPro mic adapter - series 3 and above, but not Session I think. Please check. I'm really looking forward to capturing the sound of my XBR on full chat with the mic secured close by, as she already sounds amazing through my full face helmet!

how did you get the mic to pick the bike sound up !!!!! idk if its because my bike is too loud but the mic cant pick it up properly
@buelle10911 жыл бұрын
Yes a splitter will work. And as you suggest a way to control the proportions of input would be helpful. I have used this very same mic in the helmet with decent results. Placement is very important to keep from getting the wind noise from below the chin bar.

I have owned a lot of GoPros and was looking forward to getting a Black Hero3 but haven't been convinced yet that all the bugs are out - take a look at reviews on places like Amazon or Best Buy. The Hero 3 Silver has the same processor as a Hero 2 and the Hero 3 White has the same processor as the Original Hero HD. If I had to get a new GoPro now it would be the Silver. Just ny .02 cents worth.

THIS is the video I've been looking for! Thanks. I would just like a closeup of the mic. Which other small mics will work? I understand newer Go Pros don't have 3.5mm plugs only small USBs. Is that correct?
@buelle10910 жыл бұрын
Thanks. GoPro makes a 3.5 mm mic adapter that allows you to use these types of mics with the newer cameras. At the end of the vid I show the actual mic I am using - it is just a simple lavaliere type microphone.

That is some thorough work you did there mate. Exactly what I was looking for. Your mike is hard to get in Oz so I went for a Boya GM-10. If it is half decent then my motorcycle travels from New Zealand and onward will be WOOOSSHHHH free. We'll see.

Ahh sweet. Pretty sure i can find a cheap audio mixer unit somewhere, that or a wire with a slider similar to a hands free phone kit from way back before they started using wireless headsets! Pardon my idiocy, but what bike do you have?
@buelle10911 жыл бұрын
The FZ1 from 2006 to the present is essentially the same bike. So yes.

excellent test! thanks for making a great video well worth watching on this topic! you mention using a splitter, i tried that with two mono mics and lost all sound, whereas with one mono it was ok. my gopro also gives of some sort of interference even with different mics. is there an adjustment you need to make for recording? just sent a video response showing my issue. thanks for the upload, bike sounds lovely

Awesome video! Thank you for making it I've been looking for advice on this topic for quite awhile. I bought a cheap lav mic off ebay for under $2 so ill see how that sounds and if it sucks ill get one like you had. I went on a trip with my 05' CBR600RR from Saskatchewan to Montana and BC and the couple hrs of video I took were ruined by wind noise. So I'm hoping with the new setup I'll get some good exhaust sound instead of wind. Thanks again!

Any way to have a helmet mic for speech, and the external mic at the rear using just one jack input on the camera? will a splitter work with seperate audio sliders? if you could find me some examples if possible I'd be grateful as i don't know where to start on Google!

I'm not sure they still make that exact microphone but it is simply a 'wired lavalier microphone' as an example is is a similar one. amzn.to/3ad79Ia

Damnit. Why didn't i find this video before when i was searching for one. Having no clear knowledge about this stuff, i resorted to buying a Zoom H2N. Yea it's great. Pricey but Great. BUT ... my god it's a hassle to change batteries, and the worse of all ... having to manually sync up the sound with video. Yea i have become good at it by doing it again and again, but it's such an unpleasant chor. Now i feel like buying an external microphone. But i don't want batteries for external mic. Any suggestions?

Almost useless. Not one mention of what microphone was used. Not all mics are created equal. That one sounds very good. A for effort, D for execution. To bad this is a 2012 video. No one cares anymore...lol
@buelle1094 жыл бұрын
Actually, that was the point. A 20 dollar microphone is at the bottom of the audio capabilities when it comes to sound. As I mentioned in the video - the sound from our bikes is basically akin to noise ie; they don't need a great microphone. The KEY to getting the great sound is 1] placement and 2] using the fur (often refereed to as 'dead cat' in the audio world) to cut down on the wind noise. By The way - I DID mention what microphone it is - at 5:40 in the video I clearly state it is a Pearstone Lavalier microphone and from 5:40 through 5:50, I am even showing a screen shot from the page I bought it, and clearly show the full name and even the price. And yeah even though it is an 8 year old video, there is still no better way to mic up a bike so it is still relevant in that respect. Thanks for watching.

no protective jacket big big bravo, you're absolutely not an example to follow. in the middle of the bike there are a lot of horns ...
