@@maxdwe711there are a few ways, the most modern is from a Bluetooth connection to the sena/cardo but the audio isn’t as clear as hardwired. To hardwired you split the signal going to the headset speaker, 1 side goes to speaker and the other to the camera. If your camera can record stereo run another mic for in helmet audio. Single channel mics only record the over noise cancelled headset audio. It’s a bit of trial and error to get the audio levels good.
@quentin.aventure3 ай бұрын
For a better audio quality and simpler setup, just use the DJI mic 2. It will allow you to keep the waterproof property of the action cam by not plugging in anything to it since the DJI mic 2 connects to the action 4 via bluetooth + records a backup internally in case the bluetooth connection impact your audio quality. That will save you some bucks, allows you yo record on more extreme conditions and it leaves you with a quality that could be considered as good or even better than the rode mic.

Absolutely not a big deal with this lightweight stuff like this, but if the epoxy ever does become an issue for you, it's because you're mixing it on cardboard. The cardboard can absorb some of the properties of the epoxy and make it less of a pure mixture. Again, I doubt you'll ever have issues but something to think about if you ever use epoxy for something heavier. Unrelated to this video, but that's why some folks have trouble with body filler on car bodywork. Enjoyed the video man!

OC. For the exhaust lav mic, use one with a 130spl level or better. The Sennheiser lav's that we both use have been the best I found. I personally run the Dji Action 4 with the Dji Mic 2 that wirelessly connect but always overlay the 32bit recording (I have a video showing why for those mics). The two biggest reasons I chose the Dji mics over the Rode mics are, 1) the Action4 is weather sealed. 2) I can detach the camera while riding (not recommended) for hand held shots or to switch between my helmet & handlebar mounts. Thank you for helping the motovlog community!
@chaseontwowheels8 ай бұрын
Definitely a good option but the DJI Mic 2 doesn't have a screw in type cable for my lapel that I use so I went with the Rodes because of that.

I am not a moto vlogger but I just got a new helmet so maybe I will convert my old one into a dedicated recording setup. I have the Rode Pro already, Sen microphone already, my action cam broke but I like using a 360 cam anyways. I usually dont mess with connecting the reciever just record to the transmitter and sync in post, but if your starting/stopping a lot of clips I can see having the audio feed could help with that. I like your audio mix idea, I use that when I record events I'll mic a room, and the talent so I can mix in post. The most crazy setup would be if I could actually find a way to record with my Rode NT-SF1 its a Ambisonic microphone so I can record a 360 video and actually bind the audio to full 360 so the sound moves with you as you look around, up down left and right full 360 audio. But that microphone is extremly wind noise sensitive. Could still rig up Binaural micrphones with a backpack though. So have Voice be mono and Ambient be Binaural would give a good effect of "being there" like in your helmet.

I use a replacement, 6" gaming mic. It's perfectly long enough to come from the camera (GoPro), and under the chin guard. I poke four tiny holes in the wind block hard piece that is at the inside front of the chin guard. These let me use two tiny zip ties to secure the mic centered on my mouth, and slightly below my lips. With a foam cover, the mic pics up just a little wind noise, and the "P-P-P" while talking. With a cat butt, there is no extra noise, but it tickles my nose :) I have no extra wire, and no need to wrap wire around and around the camera mount, leaving me a clean set-up. I also use the Chin Mount brand of camera base, as it has a larger "foot" that conforms and adheres to the helmet.

Very good video... I'd add that if it was me, I would add a 90 degree 3.5mm adapter to the mic connection so it pointed down rather than out to the side. It would make for a much neater connection, keeping the cable closer to the device rather than looping out like that in the first set up.

I have yet to make a published video with the new helmet set up but so far the auto gain and dual mic set up opens the door for clear audio and engine / exhaust noise on my Streetfighter V2. Best setup. No wires to the camera. Magnetic release. Easy removal of mic + camera. DJI Wireless Transmitter -10 to -12 db, DJI Wireless Microphone levels -10 to -12 db. Mixdown/Consolidate audio in post from stereo to mono. Left channel (Voice) + Right Channel (Engine) , and mess w/ it till u get the sound u like. My Sena headset method also works with the Rode wireless mics/and Dji's wireless mics. With those, I only use the rode wireless mics with my Motovlog if I am recording with one of my 360° action cameras only. What I do is use the 3.5mm camle from the Sena along with that Rode SC3 and plug it into my Rode wireless Go II and then clip the microphone of the rode to my riding jacket. I have cages with cold shoe mounts for all of my cameras so I will typically mount the reciever to the cage and plug it into the camera....This way....if I dismount the bike and are motovlogging, all I have to do is unplug the cables from the Sena and I automatically get to continue recording using the transmitter from my collar. It's a seamless connection while vlogging from the helmet to handheld 😉. Have any questions? ask away and don't forget to like his video as these videos do take alot of time to edit and record.

Wow, I didn't know about the gain feature on the action 4. I may have to switch teams and get one.

So two mics one for cardo and one for cam? That's what I was confused about... Thanks for clearing it out

Use Action 4, combine it with DJI Mic 2 transmitter only by bluetooth connection. Boom. No wires or cables. The camera still in waterproof state.

Have you tried the instamic bluetooth microphone? I haven't used it much yet, but after a few first tests, it works exceptionally well and saves you all the wires. It connects via bluetooth to the camera (it mimics being AirPods). It works quite fine with my Insta360 ONE RS. (However, it refuses to pair with the ONE X2, but there are reports that it works with the X3)

You know how I got rid of the wind noise in my helmet 15yrs ago when we used stick the camera in our helmets (ala M13)? I put clear tape over the mic; that's it. People thought I was doing voiceovers. My videos are now unlisted but can be found in a playlist on my home page. KZbin downgraded them to 480p 😒

Good video. I get a lot of compliments on my audio but I’m doing mine slightly different. I’ll check out the rode audio wireless pack.

So the Rodemic mounted externally to the back of the helmet records your voice perfectly without wind noise or anything?? Amazing video BTW loved it!

Good work. Thank you for sharing your technique. Just a note, you say the cameras were sent to you. Does that mean they were given to you by the companies or did you purchase them? Kind of vague. Bias is my concern. If they were given to you, then bias is present or potentially present, either way not a true objective analysis. Just a thought to share. It is said that if a pharmaceutical salesperson gives you even a free cheap pen, bias is or can be present.
