I love my 5. I've had it since release, and haven't had issues with it until now. The back screen doesn't turn on. Still works though. I use my phone to control it. Great video.

I have done a lot of homework, after researching Chinese cheap action cam like Akaso, I finally go for GoPro Hero 5. I have expectations on videos, GoPro Hero 5 still manage to satisfy me without breaking my wallet.

I looked around and after much consideration i went for the hero 5 black, spent a week or so testing it out for what I intend to use it for that is mountain biking. I did various tests and i came up with the following settings that seem to work well. Resolution 2-7K '30FPS in superview, flat profile in protune, kelvin scale for WB, ISO at 400, auto shutter speed, EV comp adjusted for the conditions, sharp low and audio high. I use those settings for on bike footage taken from a chest mount, however for "B" roll stuff where I wanna slow it down i use 1080p @240 FPS in wide view. I did some tests adding this to a 2-7K timeline in my editor and i slowed it down and speed ramped it down to 25% and it works brilliantly!! I turn off GPS and I do not pair it with my phone, I have LEDs all off, i do use voice commands, auto off is set to never, screensaver is turned off, video format is set to NTSC (despite being in a PAL region) I colour correct using DaVinci resolve and it works great. In my opinion most of the problems surrounding these action cameras arise from improper use. Most people want to shoot at 4/5 K with a high FPS with very little proper ventilation. for extended amounts of time DO NOT DO THIS!!!! If you purchase this camera make sure you buy a PROPER SD CARD i use a Sandisk 128 GbV30 u3 A2 and i have no issues with freezing or overheating at all. Do not use this for talking heads vlogging at 4K and the highest FPS it will overheat !! I thoroughly recommend this camera i got mine down at MPB in the UK great value at around £150 i bought a chest mount and mounting case and it all works perfectly In my opinion most of the problems surrounding these action cameras arise from improper use. I had hero 4 and now I still keep my hero 5. I use the aluminum case. I only need it as some actions saving and some underwater action and some small photos when phone isn't around. Need second battery for sure. I still didn't get change to use it much bc covid hit and I used it once only. I feel like u said is reasonable to own in 2021.ofc the newer have better quality.

I never owned the gopro 5. I bought my first gopro. .and that was hero 4 black in 2016. .just before 5 came out. I felt cheated seeing 5 had somewhat stabilization on it compared to 4. .but I did want 4 black because it had 4K video at 60fps. I liked that. And I hadn't bought a new gopro since Hero 7 Black came out. So I leaped over Hero 5 and 6. I only had my gopro hero 4 back in 2018 when I took my trip to the azores islands Portugal. I made sure I had enough battery and sd card time to record as much as I could. .and I will say I was pleased even if the walking tours were shakey AF [you know what that means]. Anyhow, I'm here to see what I was missing in hero 5. .but looks like a lot of people skipped over 5 and 6 as well. I do have 4, 7, 8, and now 9 black. 9 black is my best gopro so far. .with the max lens mod, even better, although I did have to purchase another lens mod as my first one got a nasty nick on it from a flying rock that hit it while I was riding my motorcycle on the freeway. So the max lens mods are only for my walking tours from now on. .They're too expensive to replace from just a single nick that screws up the entire recording experience. Now I'm investing in these Dango design mounts so I can clamp all my gopro's anywhere for a good angle view. And my next trip to Portugal will be super on point with the latest greatest gopro @ 5K quality or higher. I'll bring my laptop and external hard drive to dump all the video from the sd cards to. I can't wait!!! By the way, thanks for sharing your review. Very helpful.

@@mohib3383 no can do. . .I used them for stationary cams for different angles of the action. 7 I don't care much for as it doesn't have horizon leveling. 8 has horizon leveling which is a major improvement but still, not enough frame rates. .and the inability to change lenses should it get a scratch. .yet another one for walking tours. Gopro bombed with giving 8 a non interchangeable lens. I was really risking damaging the lens riding the motorcycle with it.

Wonder what the statute of limitations is at costco for no questions asked return policy. Should I just keep it and use it? I now have the time and opportunity to break it out.

Nice camera. Only thing I hate...and I mean hate....is that it if you touch it or change your grip on the handle (if equiped) while filming the sound is picked up by the microphones and then amplified during playback. It makes you videos almost unwatchable due to the noise.

We use the hero 5 black on a micro sprint car. As long as the sun is out, it works well. But the sun goes down, it's terrible! I have every mounting accessory and have tried every location on the car for max light. You'll think your locked in a closet. Track lighting is not enough.

The 5 was the last model to come with an HDMI output and the first with a built in LCD screen. No media mod needed. I just bought two GP5’s. I won’t buy a 6 or newer. Not worth the money. 5 shoots a great image for b-roll but the audio is terrible.

The hero 7 was the last model to come with an hdmi output not the 5, the hero 4 silver was the first to come with a built in LCD screen, the hero+ from 2015 is the second, which makes the 5 the third.

I have a Hero 5 which I have had for a few years. I have really not used it, but now have a use in mind, but upon attempting to turn it on it failed. The battery also failed to be recharged. So I purchased new batteries that should work as stated they are for the HERO 5,6,7 nd 8. However even at 100% they can not get the GOPRO 5 to turn on.???? Is the GOPRO 5 and GROPRO 5 Hero the same?? What would you advise

Nope, no adapter needed. The camera has a built in microphone. It's not going to hear you underwater, but it works fine above water.

I MUST DAY.. that this camera is EXCELLENT. It manages to find under artificial room light VERY WELL. I have even decided to SUBMIT MY FILMS THAT I HAVE FILMED INSIDE MY FLAT OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS.. into some kind of competition. If anyone is a fan of THRILLERS, let me know.

Wait i did compare this cam with an old action cam from ricoh... Guess what... The ricoh had a super 16mp and the go 5mp hhhh not just that the ricoh has a better software and hardware i did shoot some macro pic the ricoh had 6 led a battery saving options... I don't recommend any gopro cause of the bad development and options, the quality of the hero5 was horrible compared to the ricoh WG 2 if i remember correctly... Feel bad for ricoh... Feel so bad for LGMobile...
