smooth and straight forward feedback. good job on the comparison. in my opinion, hero 4 performance is no different from the hero 5 in regards to overall quality of the sound and audio output to screen.

Even without full manual control/setting i still prefer Sony Action Cam so far because the Sony has better pixel level quality thank to full pixel readout and higher bitrate up to 100Mbps at 4K. The video has nice balance between shadow and highlight and from some other comparison Sony outperform GoPro in low light, if you increase the ISO on GoPro the video gonna be noisier than Sony. The vivid mode has great color ready to upload or watch but if have color grading skill you can use flat mode to make the video look the way you like. The remote live view is better than the built in touchscreen because you can still control or see what you capture even when you put the camera somewhere else like mount it on your helmet when you do motovloging.Sony also has underwater mode that adds red filter affect so you don't need to buy red filter. Best of all the built in hardware stabilization that can still work even in 4K or slowmo. In the future i hope you also do some comparison with Nikon KeyMission 170.

+Genza highly agree with everything you said here. Even in my comparison footage the Sony cam has warmer colors and a crisper image in every shot. The stabilization hands down Sony wins. Hey i have one more question can you get different exposure if you set the EV between -1 to -3 or +1 to +3 in Sony Action Cam? In theory you can get better highlights if you set the EV -3 or brighter exposure in low light or shadow area like when you inside the car if you set the EV +3 and if you not busy maybe you can make another video comparison to show us the differences. Genza I'll have to check the Sony camera when I get home to see if an exposure value can be changed for video. Usually when you change the ev value it's when taking photos. ISO and f-stops are for video. Maybe this camera has a exposure value for video but I'll have to check when I get home. I'll be sure to let you know what I find out.

Thanks, side by side is great. Sony seems to keep the horizon more level with a little less shake. Does either cam keep the image right side up regardless of how the camera is rotated? I'm interested in almost pavement level shots while riding a bike with the cam upside down, and then lifting the cam back to torso level, right side up. Thanks

Hecho en Casa Juntos yes but there is nothing covering over the lense. The go pro's case just goes around the edges of the body. It's purpose is so that you can attach the camera to gopro accessories.

Sony has better HDR... Sometime Sony is darker, but it is easy to correct in post edition! Go Pro in sunny days burn the background and at night too noise!

Ex Continental I'll be honest with you I've never tried it but based on the fact that you have to select your Bluetooth device from the device your pairing too (not the GoPro or the fdrx3000) I'm gonna say no. You have to select the camera from the (in this case microphone) but even still it would never work because you would have to download the app to operate either camera to your microphone. Can't do it....

Nolan Gaudreau honestly. The Sony Camera is better for almost everything except for customized settings and time lapses. For vlogging get the Sony cam though. It's easier to use and your always gonna get a great shot by just pressing record. The app has recently been updated and it syncs to your phone super fast and easy and it's easy to operate. Hi, you said in the video, sony has fast connect between camera and phone, so it's still necessary buy the remote version? the sony phone app at apple store has only 2.5 stars. Also I guess you can test more like walking handle camera in hand, FDR-X3000 has great OIS which improve the footage a lot.

顾晨 the Sony's play memories app in my opinion is easier to connect to your smart phone than the Hero's go pro app but it maybe got 2.5 stars because of its design. It functions well but it's not very fun to use. I think maybe people gave it low ratings because of how it looks not because of functionality. It's not that attractive to work in but It actually works fine. The one thing I will say is maybe Sony should work on maybe a better way to separate the functions so it's easier for a beginner to navigate threw the app. They are just all bunched together in 1 straight line up and down. Just a bunch of text. That's kind of boring like they didn't put much effort into it's production. But it works fine.

I use Gopro 4 connected with iPhone app lots of time, what I can say, rate 4 stars. Using wifi, the distance can up to at less 10 meters(didn't try further), easily change model and setting. Only when Gopro separate store video by every about 8 mins, it will disconnect couple second and reconnect by itself, which is acceptable. The only problem coming with Gopro app I think, it cannot get preview when some model record. The lag is short, probably less then 1second, live in 720P or 480P I guess? All fine for me. As long as Sony app have similar functions, I am ok with it.

顾晨 yes when recording footage in the Sony play memories app there is no significantly noticeable lag time. I'd have to say both apps perform well when recording. Maybe I'll do a video on that. Thank you. Recently I started using the voice command on my gopro and it has been so convenient. It makes recording a lot easier. I'll make an example video of that as well.

Yes, voice command sound a little cool, but I am more happy Sony has the watch remote what I can monitor at anytime and anywhere. My Sony FDR-X3000R is on the way, I just can't wait bring it to ski :) It should be more convenient then use a gopro or use a gimbal.

Im still a bit indicisive lol. I like the audio better on the Sony and the color, however seems like when in the car/train the Sony is darker and Go Pro has a better image then. Wonder what both are like in low light feature

BelizeMa1 To be honest. The Sony is better over all for just pulling out and pressing record. The GoPro does have more dynamic range than the Sony in low light but you have to keep in mind that the higher you turn up the ISO to let more light info the lense the more noise(fuzziness) you get in your image. Sony had an exposure value compensation that lightens up the scene but it doesn't have the range that the GoPro has. Personally when I'm running out and don't have time I grab the Sony. When it's drizzling or I'm going to the beach I grab the GoPro. You can't get good audio with the Sony while it's in its waterproof housing. The GoPro doesn't need the housing cause comes water proof standard. It's a tough decision that's why I ended up with both. I recommend choosing one and not wasting money like me even though I like both a lot. Lol good luck.

Oh, quick question, while on a flight this guy had the hero 5 and showed me on his iPad the app and how he could record on the hero and it showed on the iPad... how is the Sony app in comparison. Also is there a difference between the apple app and the android? I have both iPhone and Android, but now I pretty much use my iPhone as a paperweight since the Galaxy is life lol, so I'm hoping the Android app is good.

BelizeMa1 lol @iphone as a paper weight. That galaxy 8 does look impressive. Yes the Sony comes with a waterproof housing but when the housing is on you get really low to no audio. With the go pro you can still hear the water and waves etc. You can sync both cameras up with your android or Apple device by selecting the device in your wifi settings. I find that the Sony device is easier to sync and works better than the GoPro app. The Sony app is called playmemories mobile and the GoPro app is called capture. Both are great apps the Sony app has recently been updated and is now easier to use than it used to be. Both are good. Now that the Sony's app is updated I think it's maybe a little easier than the GoPro's app but the GoPro does have more features so it gonna be a little more involved. But again 2 great apps.

Lol I have the edge 7 so the 8 isn't a huge upgrade but def recommend it if you have iPhone or older galaxy i don't think I'd care too much about the sound under water, but these features on the go pro have me wondering 🤔🤔 aye yai yai, decisions!!! A-Dubb Productions I heard and read Sony on 4K, battery lasts 50min to 1h, on HD battery lasts up to 2h. What I dont know is how long does battery lasts in Sony remote control watch and how long does battery lasts in GoPro 5? Price: - GoPro 5 = 430€ (second battery and body belt for gopro 5 included) - Sony X3000 = 570€ (waterproof case and watch emote control) I have a 200€ coupon which I can use and get any of the above cameras 200€ cheaper. But I need to know about battery life. GoPro 5 has problems as waterproof case is leaking water, many reported their GoPro stopped working after 10 minutes in water. Also if you dive 30m you cant record do to water pressure pressing on buttons on GoPro. Also camera intends to overheat. GoPro also has problems with small doors for connection which intend to break if you are not gentle with them. Sony on the other hand also overheats, but Sony support sad if this happens anybody that has this problem should send camera back for inspection. Please if you can answer.

vanessalpaca you can vlog without it. While your recording using the go pro you can't see yourself anyway cause the screen is on the opposite end. The lense is pointed to you and the screen is in the back. The only benefit of having a screen is that you can look at what you've recorded right on the camera as well as control the cameras functions using the touch screen. Side not. You can view the footage you just recorded on either of these cameras using the app for the camera as well as control the camera.

vanessalpaca typically I never have a problem. If I'm concerned with framing my shot correctly I just use the app. It connects to the camera and you can use your cellphone as the viewfinder. You won't have a problem promise. If you wanna know how to connect it I can either make a tutorial for you but there are plenty of tutorials on KZbin that shows you how to connect with the Sony play memories app.

I found the audio hard to judge.... there's less background noise with the Sony, but due to this I think it alters the sound slightly. Go pro sounded more real, but brought with it a lot of distraction noise. Which is better... no idea. I want an external mic option, does either camera have that?

ManSpeedCore I tried to. These action cameras are not meant to record at night. They both have exposure settings to compensate for low light situations but if shooting at night time you have to use light sources or your video will be really grainy. I was asked to do a video comparing both cameras exposure compensation settings but when I recorded it it was so grainy I would have been embarrassed to post it. It was really dark and super grainy and you couldn't really see anything. As you can see in my last shot both cameras did pretty bad at regular settings. In a dark train car if I would have turned up the exposure compensation the footage would be totally unusable professionally. When I shot at night even with a small light the footage was crappy and grainy. Maybe I'll make a video with a small comparison since people still want to see the two in low light. I'll make something.

Go pro better micro details, better low light behavior and better in challenging shadow situation. Sony an other cameras may be better in steady shots and in natural collor reproduction and in shots where are perfect sunlight condition. As soon as there are moving objects and low light or changing(challenging) light conditions, gopro still show strenght and beat most competition.

Yeah honestly i'm a bit sick of all that anti gopro propaganda lately. Definitelly there a better price/performance options out there, but Gopro is still one of best option out there if price is not concern. It show strenght where actually matter.

majsterV we have to compare and contrast though. This keeps the companies pushing the limits and coming out with better products/toys year after year for us to work and play with. In this case Sony came out with a great camera but it's obvious that the entire action camera industry is second to GoPro. If people see a small camera the first thing they think is " is that a GoPro." They are the Micheal Jackson of the action camera industry, but they still need our opinions and they still need to be compared to others to continue making better products.

NicMediaDesign that's a good question. I had it set to wide. Maybe superview would have given me a wider FOV but I wanted to set both cameras up identical. The x3000 has a wider FOV when both are set to Wide.

+Richard Steeples Both cameras have wind reduction features but I haven't tested them. If your trying to achieve tv and film quality sound I recommend using a different device to capture your audio. These devices have very limited audio capabilities.

I think maybe I’ll do another vid comparing the fdrx to the hero 6 and higher frame rates and slow them down. Would be a good comparison. To much in one vid is some times just that. To much. Would you be interested in seeing a frame rate comparison played partially in slow mo using the hero 6 and fdrx? Don’t have my hero 5 any longer.

+Ferdy Lukman I thought the Sony actually out performed in both picture quality and sound but that's partially because the sony's microphone is in a better spot when the lenses is painted towards you. The sound on the Go Pro was definitely better quality, not tinny sounding like the Sony. The picture quality was about the same in my opinion with the Sony having more saturation, almost unnatural coloration.

MY NAME IS JEFF after having both cameras for some time now. I have to admit. Sony has the better product. It’s actually more reliable and more simple to use. That new Sony action Cam the RX 0 kills all action cams.

Sander RAW I can agree with that. Even the build quality of the Sony camera isn't that great. For the money spent when you touch it you kind of feel like you should be getting something more solid. It almost feels like a toy.

Sander R. I actually like the shape of the Sony better because it fits on the side of your bike helmet without making you look as ridiculous as the cube shaped GoPro. I have one GoPro and 3 Sony cameras. I usually reach for the Sony
