Nice video! Question - did you update the camera after you got it? That will enable 4K-60 with HyperSmooth as well as fix all those crazy exposure issues when your face was pointing the camera - that was some early facial detection flaws. Give it a try!

3:24 Happened twice to me... Both times with Chinese soldiers demanding the footage. But I was shooting on HVX200's then (which recorded to P2 cards, but also had a tape deck) and I kept a tape in the deck - because it was early days for solid state and I didn't trust it yet - My 1st AC was quick thinking and handed them the blank tape the first time without question, they were happy and I always kept a tape in it from then on just in case. The second time I didn't think we'd be so lucky, but we were. Non camera people didn't know about the P2 cards, and most cameras then used only tape. Got the shots, saved the shoot... and I still don't know why they wanted the footage. So yes - I'd swallow the card if that's what it took...

I recommend a used FDR-X3000 hogspen3 if you can find one. It has a higher bitrate than the 7, and I believe better stabilization.

I have a Sony FDR3000x, which was the stabilizer king before. Any experience on which is better? This does look smooth for sure, and hyperlapse is great for vloggers moving the story from location to location.

It is really good...just did a vlog the other day about skeet shooting, and didn't use an external mic or anything. The sound was amazing...didn't even do any post work on audio...just like that right out of the camera. I was however a little disappointed as the sky's were dark, and I was filming in 120 so I didn't have to switch back and forth from b roll to interview, and it was grainy.

Well since the sony fdr is optical stabilization and not software based, you can run it through software stabilzation in premierre/FCP and it should be just as smooth if not smoother than the GoPro 7 still.

I think the optical stabilization of the X3000 is still better but the H7 is a big step up from H5/6

The X3000 still has better stabilization (in Active Mode you can't beat OIS), it doesn't crop as much and the bit rate is a lot better, giving you better image quality. I broke my X3000, I bought a Hero 7 Black and after 4 days of testing I'm returning it and getting another X3000.

It is really impressive how little crop it has with the amount of stability it delivers. You were saying it only does the hypersmooth at 24p but then I saw you shooting in 60 and it wasn't slowed down and looked way smoother compared to 5. Is it much smoother all the time?

Nice test but one problem. When you compare the hero five to the hero seven you say that you had both in 4K 24 FPS ..... on the hero five anything over 2.7 K does not have stabilization at all. I feel you would’ve got a more accurate test if you would’ve left them both and 2.7 K or at least the hero five so that the image stabilization was active. I actually made a video on The hero five and when you want to use a gimbal with it. Other than that great test and I would love to see another one in 2.7 K.

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. You're absolutely right. Technically this throws this test out completely. You have one camera without any image stabilization up against the new and improved camera with image stabilization.
