@@DelphiTheDolphin You're in PAL. For frame rates like 60fps and 30fpd, you need to put the camera in NTSC mode. You've probably figured this out by now, but I leave this reply for anyone else who may be reading your comment.

@@JudoSurfer Yep, which is kinda silly: they advertise the cam here also with the 240fps. They whole switching between PAL and NTSC (which is just for antiflicker at 50/60Hz) could be skipped. I get the 50Hz flickering of lights at 200fps, too even if the cam is set to PAL...

What about the audio....I have the Hero 5 and the audio is horrible. Never fixed in the Hero 6, overly sensitive body causes audio disruption when recording. Great video. With you covered the audio. I have a love hate relationship with GoPro....made a few videos about it.

I had that same issue with my 5. I turned the sharpening to low, the videos look much better. It was over sharpening the pics and vids and they looked really bad

Great information and really good footage in the comparisons. I currently have the Hero 5 Black and I want to add a second camera to my kit. I was looking at the Hero 6 Black because of the 3 axis stabilization compared to the Hero 5's 2 axis stabilization. Now that the 7 Black has been released it looks like a big enough jump in stabilization performance over the Hero 6 Black that I will go with the Hero 7 Black. As you mentioned about the super photo mode I think most people will use that more than RAW photo mode. When it comes to social media and editing off phone I mostly use the lightroom mobile app to adjust colours anyway but with raw photo mode it will take a bit longer to make adjustments specially with its larger file size. Maybe we’ll have to test it for a while to find out what’s more convenient. I guess it depends on what you want to use the photos for. Great question for discussion 👍🏼

That will not work. The Firmware hack from Hero 2018 to Hero 5 only worked because of the same hardware of both cameras. Hero 7 black has a bigger RAM than the Hero 6.

4K linear mode available in HERO 7 Black? I use my HERO 5 Black for travel video. Now using 2.7K 60FPS in linear mode. The one reason for me to upgrade is only for the linear mode in 4K.

Great info Kyle. Can you advise me on settings for my new 7. I was jetboating with the boat doing 360degree spins but my camera seems to have failed to record these in detail. Much to my disappointment. Can you recommend settings to capture this in the future, or is it a downside of this model?

It seems to me they ignored one of the most glaring weaknesses of the GoPro, the ability to use a remote mic. To have to buy that ridiculous adapter of theirs and then just let it hang out in space with no place to really put it is one of the sorriest design features of any product I've ever seen.

"LiveStreaming..?" is a bit misleading. for LiveStream, you have it paired to a smart phone (which drains your battery faster) then the smart phone has to have the correct software, the correct speed, the correct internet access, and a cell connection that supports livestream. This is expensive to get all of this working. Saying, "The GoPro Hero 7 will live stream" is very deceptive unless you add all those disclaimers. No, THE GOPRO HERO7 CANNOT LIVESTREAM ON IT'S OWN. You need to pair it with several thousand dollars worth of equipment/software.

steve4321able I’ve had a GoPro hero 3 white, hero 5 black, hero 5 session, and the 7 black. I can attest that it is slightly better looking, but the huge thing that sets it apart is the image stabilization. It really does work and makes the video so much better. Combine that with the faster processing and it’s an awesome camera

Even if you have a gimbal, the hypersmooth is worth it because you can't always use a gimbal. Also, imagine how smooth a video could be if you combined the two!

Thank you for the first look Kyle. Great job. Have you been able to test the audio well enough to know if it has improved over the 5 and 6? What about in a non-Karma gimbal. Are the controls affected by the mounts and is the motor noise as much of a problem as it was with the 5 and 6? I am a mountain biker riding with an Evo gimbal for my Hero2. I'm about to pull the trigger on the Virb 30 -if the 7 has usable audio and no motor noise it may be worth waiting for.

I have found that some gimbals are just more noisy than others. I have not spent a lot of time testing the audio of the GP7 I can get up some raw sample video if that would help you make your decision.

Thanks Kyle. Raw footage is one thing, but the Gimbal noise is another. The Hero 5 and 6 had the mic against the motors and was very noisy and could not be turned off. You don't need to do any testing of raw audio. I'm more concerned about the gimbal noise. Well, as concerned I guess is accurate. I'll keep an eye out on your channel for further testing as you create the content.

With the Hero 4 and earlier versions the camera sits in a detachable case and the lens is protected. If the part of the case that protects the lens gets scratched and it affects the video you can get a new case. Since the Hero 5 and later versions don't need that case, what do you do if the part of the camera that protects the lens gets scratched?

Kudos to GoPro but for me too little, too late. After the Hero 4 I opted-out and went for Garmin's and Sony's instead, never looking back. And haven't regretted making that move so far, sorry GoPro. But the Hero 7 does show some promise, although Sony's solution for (optical instead of electronic) stabilisation is quite good. The focus for the Hero 7 is clearly on Social, instead of specs. Keep-on sleeping GoPro, I guess. I do hope GoPro can find their mojo back (again!), but it still will be a No Thank you, for me.

Again, I believe GoPro lost it mojo a while back, and that is very unfortunate. As they did revolutionise this industry and I'm very thankful for that. I guess that comes when you listen too much to the shareholders and not putting you ears to the ground what the marketplace is doing. Back then GoPro was unique, but with the likes of Yi (not counting quality, customer-support but just products) and the countless "nock-off's", you really have to be top-notch in many aspects (i.. features, offerings) if you wanly to stay on top of them all. And GoPro was, in honest views, struggling in that arena. Very unfortunately. Perhaps that explains the rather quick consecutive releases of the Hero 5, 6 and now 7? But I also have to honest, the electronic means of stabilisation is very appealing, as you correctly pointed out that would relinquish the requirement for a gimbal, and, with good software-implementation, give good to excellent results. And electronic versus mechanical is faster, more energy-efficient (also less heat/noise) Although there are some con's as well for electronic stabilisation. But it has to be said, the Hero 7's implementation does look very promising. And let us not forget, electronic stabilisation means it can also be updated via firmware, be fine-tuned via software/menu. Provided GoPro has implemented those possibilities into their design, I do not know. As this channel is for GoPro's, I won't go into Sony nor Garmin, but I do like them a lot. As I did way back then with my GoPro's up and including the Hero 4. (I still have all my GoPro's btw) Hoping that HERO 7 brings all wat we expect from it. And more. PS: I of course keep watching your channel. :) Appreciate all your efforts bringing us the latest & greatest!

No, in my testing I did not focus on the audio as I did not know it had changed, in the test footage I went through I did not hear a big difference and thus did not talk about it in the review. I am getting a lot of questions about it so I may spend some time and try to get a stand alone video up on just the HEOR7 audio

No script from GoPro, in fact I had no communication with them at all in the weeks leading up to this launch. I reached out to them with questions after my HERO7 arrived and did not get a response. I got the camera in the mail on Monday sept 17th and started testing and using it leading up to the launch on Thursday. The only info I got with the camera was the card you saw in the video listing the 4 new features of the camera. I am not one of big KZbinrs so I would imagine the some people may have a tighter relationship with GoPro than me. At some point in the past (2-3 years ago) I got connected with a PR contact at GoPro, who has since left, and was added to there list of people who they seed hardware to before launch. I got one of my HERO5's, and my HERO6 in this way. This HERO7 is the only time the product has come before launch. My HERO5 came 2 months after launch, the HERO5 I reviewed I bought at BestBuy on launch day. The HERO6 got to me in the afternoon of launch day. No video on this channel has ever been payed for, although often the products are sent out free of charge.

Elite tv - The sound is a bit better compared to the 5 and the 6 but not at the quality like the hero 4. They need to get rid of the waterproofing membrane or have two options of Gopros. Some outlets are reporting that Hero 7 and Hero 6 use the same sensors and this uses new PCB/firmware? :| if Sony reduces the FDR X3000 price, I'm not sure the Hero 7 is more attractive for new users & existing 6/5 users might not have a strong reason to update if they're using 1080 and not shooting everything in 4K? Also if the battery size is the same... with each successive update you're getting some chipset updates that might consume less power, but if there's more processing used to do the electronic stabilization - I'd be concerned the 7's battery life to be worse.
