I would bet that the Hero 8 is a firmware upgraded Hero 7 Black with slightly larger body to accommodate heat dissipation. Pretty confident that a firmware update would bring the hero 7 black to the exact performance of the hero 8. They are the same sensor for starters.

Hey, love your detailed and straightforward reviews. One thought I had was the new built in mount and how sturdy it is, hopefully it isn't one of those "built to fail" type things that we will end up having to replace in 2 years. Finally! What a great comparison, as expected. After watching your detailed comparison, here's my though : 1. If you already have a H7Black, i don't think it's worth upgrading to H8B, unless you really need additional units. 2. If you have H6B or previous series it's really worth upgrading to H8B. 3. If you don't have any action camera, then H8B is on my top recommendation, worth every penny. 4. If you don't mind other brand then DJI Osmo Action is a great option, cheaper but the stabilization will be on par (I guess), but I still prefer the color from Gopro.

This video was still valuable to me 3 years after it was made. The big takeaway was that the Hero 8 is still a solid choice in today's market.
