Alps Lifee I use osmo pocket, but I don’t quite like it because the stabiliser sometimes just goes crazy and the screen is just too small to use and and the phone connector is kind of wiggly so I’m planning to buy a scroll wheel, will that help?

I purchased the Osmo Pocket and GoPro8, I tried the Osmo Pocket first and didn't like it at all, no zoom function and the images were too dark and not worth it for $499. I was able to return it without a restocking fee as I kept all the packaging. I am just setting up my GoPro8 now and I believe will get more use out of it when I do some cycling videos!

Gopro easily, you can do so much more with it and strap it on without worrying too much about it getting damaged to the point where it cant function, the osmo pocket is more for like travel or cinematic motion, I wouldnt strap it on a car although you could its just too fragile and i would be scared that a ball, car or anything else would break the gimbal, you could do so many cool things with the gopro too and strap it on so many places and feel confident that it will hold up afterwards.

Hey Alps, need some advice again l. I brought a video camera last week but sent it back as it was shit, said 4k on it but had pixels, to be fair wasn't the usual brand name. I've looked at a few of your videos, and what I want to know is what is the best video camera I can get from Amazon that's a decent price range for an amateur like me. Can spend around 150-250.

@@TheDrteef I would look at the canon M50, they have Vlogger kits, the autofocus at 1080p is really good and it has a flip out screen, the kit comes with a camera mic and a zoom lens, you can also control it with your phone, you could also look at the DJI OSMO POCKET, it can track you, you can connect it to your phone, to be honest your phone is really good, you could download filmic pro to get the most out of it, I would be thinking about a big key light, such as the godox SL60 with a soft box that would make a massive difference, then sound, I would be investing in maybe lav mics or a shotgun mic, those two elements would make the biggest difference to your videos.

Rob Egan I don’t know how comfortable I would be bringing an osmo pocket on a ride, the GoPro is throw at a wall and feel comfortable, you could easily stick the GoPro in 4k linear mode with hyper smooth at max and get amazing results, in releasing a little fun vid I did with just the GoPro on Sunday so watch out for that, in the mean time if you need some best settings whatever you decide let me know and I’ll help out.

I was searching for a good vlogging camera apart from zv-1 as zv-1 is too tight. Most other videos primarily focused on how the shots looked from both of these cameras but didn't talk much about the practicalities. I appreciate how beautifully you compared these two. A GoPro 9 announcement will be made this month or next, but I’m waiting for the display mod which was enabled feature wise in the latest firmware update, this would make the GoPro the best vlogging camera for me due to size and ability, what’s funny is that since I’ve made this all my friends starting using their GoPros to shoot videos and vlogs so it’s good to see gear being used and not collecting dust

The GoPro mic is certainly usable, I use the ride lav mic that came with the rode link (not the rode go) I plug that lav into the tascam dr05x, the main fact is every camera needs an external mic, internal just can’t compare, it’s certainly usable and can get you by, but if I have a separate lav mic then I have audio from the GoPro and the lav mic incase something goes wrong, again it’s all totally down to you, what do you prefer, I did a vlog recently on a different channel with the GoPro only and the audio turned out ok a bit quiet but usable, there’s no right or wrong answer it’s just how much your willing to invest, you could certainly get the media mod and connect a rode go to it which is small and portable and I doubt it makes much of a difference in size, audio for me is 80% part of the video, if you can’t hear me then your less likely to watch even with the best video quality, whereas the best audio quality will more likely make you stay even with shabby video quality.

gopro for sure, unless you do alot of night time filming, then the osmo pocket wins because its lowlight is better, but if your concern is image quality only then osmo pocket, the built in gimbal is stable

Sivasankar I use the tascam DR-05x it’s perfect for videos because you can put it in your pocket, the mic connection is at the top so it doesn’t bend like other recorders

GoPro is set focus, osmo pocket you can choose between continuous autofocus or single focus so you can choose a point and it keep it in focus there

Gimbals have a very specific movement that can’t be replicated yet unless you are extremely long armed and agile which I’ve yet to see anyone be haha for example up and down crane shots, 360 shots etc without a gimbal you have to do that with your hands it’s not the camera, saying that, if you are just filming yourself then yes one position one movement you don’t need a gimbal for complex movement you need a gimbal

I bought the Osmo pocket to capture random day to day stuff and quickly realised that it was more for cinematic stuff, like you said. @@AlpsLifee GoPro doesn't play nice with my MacBook (Intel Iris Plus Graphics) I have to do an extra step to convert it to be able to view on MacBook/FCP X.

@@eri7-11 if you have an older MacBook that doesn't have the h265 chip then it wont playback smoothly, if you record in h264 it should playback smoother, but otherwise converting to proxies is usually what everyone does anyway to get smoother playback. in fcpx you can convert to proxies when you import footage so it does it automatically.

I´m lucky to own both of them. However if I had to choose one, I would go for the GoPro 8. Hard to explain why, but It feels kind of more fun to film with a GoPro, especially if you do sports. On the other hand I do like the Motion Lapse feature of the Osmo Pocket and the Face Tracking.

Georg van Gent I believe in every tool we use should know how to get the best out of them, infact imagine snowboarding down a slope, I wouldn’t be using my Fuji camera to take a selfie, GoPro other hand.. what about an underwater selfie with sea life? Perhaps you want a quick motion time lapse going from one point to the other.. maybe you want it on Instagram, tiktok or just to show your friends, every tool to me is capable it’s just how we use them to get the best out of them :)

If it was for filmmaking I would pick osmo pocket as the quality is better, if it’s for KZbin type or more fun I would pick GoPro, what sort of video do you mean ?

If you want the best quality then osmo pocket, if you want more creative and fun things then choose the GoPro, but GoPro is going to release the 9 very soon so I would wait
