GoPro HERO7 Black Freezing Issues after only one week

I bought the GoPro HERO7 Black 6 days ago and it started freezing. I’ve owned a total of four GoPro HERO7 Black cameras, and each one of them had the freezing issue. Two of them are being currently replaced under warranty, and this one shown in the video I will return to the store.

same issue here. what I did... - updated to 1.9 software - factory reset the crapmera - turned off low light - banged it on the floor forcefully out of frustration - contemplated buying dji osmo action after all of that it worked...but lost few thousand $$$ in not recording what I came to record for a customer.

GoPro packed too much high-profile technology in a very small case. This mainly leads to thermal problems. In the beginning, this camera is very good and groundbreaking. She is indeed a gimbal killer. However, GoPro should consider whether to develop another form of housing for such a high performance. I only films in Full HD so with 1080p at 25 frames per second. As a result, the otherwise excellent technology of this camera is not so much challenged.

I have the same problem with my Sandisk 64GB. Try to contact Gopro Support, and they reccomended to update software in-camera by SD Card. NO BY iOS APP! I try to update camera to lastest version, and put the SD into my camera. Works perfectly! U must try this on your Hero7.

I've encountered the same issue. GP is recommending SanDisk SD Extreme cards. Not sure about your SD however. But once I switched to SanDisk Extreme, problems vanished.

I use several SanDisk Extreme 256GB V30 MicroSDXC cards and I have the same heat related issues... I have several HERO 7 BLACK cameras and they all tend to freeze, need hard reset... etc. ... plus the center of the image gets blurry after the camera gets hot... so hot you barely can touch it...

Is there a different between iPhone 4K @60fps and GoPro 4K @60fps? And how much does this particular GoPro cost? When I just search for GoPro 4K @60fps, the price mostly range from $329-$299.

This is the same issue I was having, along with lines on the display that were there for 5-10 seconds then went away. If I want to record, last thing I want to do is keep removing the battery just to be able to reset it. Thinking of just getting the DJI Osmo Action, what are your thoughts?

I got the DJI Osmo Action too but returned it back to the store. The software isn’t polished yet and I don’t like the picture nearly as much as GoPro. I exchanged my GoPro for another one, hopefully this one doesn’t have the same issue.

I'm with you on the software being new but I've never used Dji. I just want the camera to work when I press record. I have the same issue. I used the samsung 4k sd card and it freeze all the time. I even formatted many times. The camera does not turn on sometimes. I have to remove the battery and put it back thats when it will power back on, Its annoying. There is definitely issues with this camera. I updated to the latest software. never had any issues with Gopro hero 5.

This camera in the video I exchanged for a brand new Hero 7 in the store I bought it from. For the two cameras I’m waiting to be sent back with replacement units under warranty, GoPro had me run a variety of tests. They include manually updating the firmware, trying a SanDisk Extreme SD card, recording under different resolutions, and resetting the camera.

I noticed that even though it's a 4k rated card, it also looks to be a Class 3. When I was just looking at those (the Go Pro Hero 7 Black) at Target a couple of days ago, it stated there that you needed a minimum of a Class 6 card. I wonder if that could be part or all of your issue & that you need to use a card with a faster transfer speed so as not to overload the camera's buffer (or whatever may be happening). Also, when you reset it by removing the battery, be sure to keep it out for 30 seconds or so. Normally there are capacitors that hold a charge inside that retain power to the electronics to hold settings and those need time to discharge. In many electronic items it's often 8-10 seconds, but I'd check their online or print manual (If it comes with one) to be sure though, in case I'm incorrect. Best of luck!

@@OrlandoStreets It could be that the later model requires the faster card than the earlier one. To get the price down they may have reduced the buffer capacity or something else that makes the newer versions not work as well with a "slower transfer" card. I'd try a Class 6 or better yet 10 when Best Buy has them on a one day special and see if that makes a difference. It could be a manufacturing, firmware ir software defect in the later models. If a new card doesn't help, then obviously it's the camera itself. If so, then it makes for much less hassle, etc. It's the easiest way to troubleshoot that I know of.

That's what I get for looking too quickly at the card and the fact that there's the "U" rating and the separate "Class" rating. I downloaded the manual for that cam & page 5 has a link to what cards are approved for it (which I couldn't see listed in the specs on the regular site anywhere). gopro.com/help/articles/block/microSD-card-Considerations#list1 It shows that your card is approved, although several of the Samsung U1 cards aren't. Your U3 card is a Class 10 and "should" be fine, so my apologies for misreading the card type earlier. It does mention that you should reformat frequently. Page 37 of the pdf, which is p. 73 of the manual says to hold the mode button down for a full 10 seconds to restart the camera without changing your settings. Some people have said that corrects the problem. Also, I'd put in the correct date and manually download the latest software to it. They give instructions for doing a manual upgrade ti the siftware on their website. Lots of stuff to try - best of luck. I really enjoy your videos when I get a chance to watch them.

GoPro Public Relation I have similar problems except it won’t turn on sometimes. I let it sit for a day, with battery removed, then reinsert battery and connect to charger cable then it turns on...sometimes. My guess it that a capacitor needs to fully discharge for it to reset...or software problem

Try turning the auto low-light option off.I had the freezing issue as well (not during recording,but by idle) and every time it froze,i has to take the battery out.Since i turned the low-light sh#t off,no freezing. :)

Hero 7 white kept FREEZING on me eventually stopped using it and got a hero 7 silver as a gift. Sake thing happens. GO PRO is completely overrated. So many better camcorders for any environment. GO pros don't handle any heat well.

Encountered similar issue recently. Still not fixed. I guess the problem is overheating. Upon using the camera for few hours each day, the camera board is always heated up after a few minutes (especially if its suit is worn). Eventually the board gets fried taking its toll on the heat due to its compact design with almost no room for cooling. I guess thats basically it.I'm now saying goodbye to my gopro hero7.

It's a major issue with many GoPro Hero7 Black owners and the company is not offering a solution which is completely unacceptable. My only advice is to switch the "auto low light" mode to OFF and see if that corrects the issue. To bad that one has to disable features due to a firmware problem. Good luck, but you may get the same problem with a replacement.

According to your card, you use one of the best with fast writing speed that actually supports 4K. So it IS definitely GoPRO issue. Anyway, how did it end? Did you get another or you bought something else?

So far I have had no problems with my Hero7 Black. However, I would like to restrict that I do not use excessively large memory cards, but a maximum of 64GB. Also, I do not film in 4K. but with 1080p at 25fps (PAL). It may be that the quality of production at GoPro differs very much. It is noticeable in this case that actionkid challenges the performance of the camera very much to its limits. So the situation is different for me…

you mentioned that your camera was kinda warm if it is pretty warm or hot when you wrap your hand around it that is one of the issues it will shut down and you will have to wait until it cools down a bit also is your battery real warm also another issue so do an experiment with it remove your battery don't put it back in use an external power supply without your battery in I have three black web power units one will run my camera forever almost the only thing you have to worry about is the sun getting your camera real hot than it will shut down but you may have another issue there hope this is helpful

i had the same freeze problem within a week too. Had the following issues. 1) Battery cover so freaking hard to remove 2) Mine froze up once during usage. Then now freezes when power up. Freaking gopro go superhot while LCD screen freeze. Only way is to remove battery. 3) Another issue is slow power off...the LCD screen still lit up, took at least 10 seconds plus to completely shut down. Bought a OEM no brand china action camera before this, cost < USD30. No freezing/lag issue ^^ Heard Hero 8 had same freaking problems...oh dear...

Firmware. Known problem. I recommend you try using an older firmware that works. It's not your memory card and I strongly doubt it's a hardware issue. It's the current firmware. Gopro screwed up.

is not bad for gopro but for 4K resolution with same card change resolution to 1080 it will work without freeze

Hopefully GoPro can address the problem. I was able to fix it by exchanging the camera and using a new battery.
