What does the new LG 2-in-1 Combo Washer Dryer look like operationally from the inside? I strapped a GoPro and temperature sensor on the inside of the unit to view the wash and dry action as best as I could. Due to battery performance and heat, the video is not full-length, but with over 1hr of content, you will get a very strong idea on what this unit is capable of with a smaller wash load.
Note that the small load was utilized to ensure that you could see the wash/tumble/dry action, as I attempted a larger load a few days ago, which heavily obscured the camera for much of the load.
As noted on the video, options used were Turbowash, ColdWash, and +1 rinse. The live energy statistics were provided by a Kill-A-Watt meter. I attempted to use a water meter for flow rate, but it did not work for some reason.
Key Timestamps on Wash:
00:00:35 - Sensing Load Test Start
00:01:44 - Water Valves Open, Wash Begins
00:03:46 - TurboWash water jets activate
00:10:22 - TurboWash water jets close
00:13:35 - Low RPM Spin
00:16:05 - Valves Open Again
00:17:12 - Valves close, Washer agitates
00:42:42 - DC Drain Pump Activates
00:47:43 - Unit Begins to Spin
00:54:50 - Camera Dies
00:55:13 - Unit Resumes Drying
01:30:10 - Final Results after GoPro battery dies

Thumbs up, no plastic inside drum Thumbs up, water circulation over clothing makes no need for adding extra water as you can see clearly, the water is always soaking the clothes. Thumbs down, useless, unnecessary tumbling with the pump, running that waste a tremendous amount of time during the cycle. Thumbs down while drying, the drum does not alternate enough from left, spinning to right spinning, causing more knots of clothing. Just my observation so far

Homes of yesteryear were designed with laundry rooms with a small window to be opened when drying clothes. The laundry rooms did not have ducted air vents and were designed to allow outside air to makeup the air vented by the dryer. I’ve calculated that a dryer sucking conditioned air out of a home on a hot summer day is equivalent to the loss of a full ton of air conditioning while drying clothes. Newer homes without a laundry room window or automated supply air are poorly designed.

The clothes staying lower temperature is an advantage of this system in comparison to most other types. The fact this works with a lower drying temperature is one of the main reasons I'm interested in this. Don't have to hang clothes to keep them from the high heat of the dryer.

Interesting heat pump action, high speed air and tumble using less than 500W. Heat pump driers or combos are so expensive especially in locations where we can hang to dry the clothes. a 500w window airconditioner is dirt cheap, a split type with double the power just above double. We have an LG that is 5 years old now, albeit, electric/PTC heater. I was surprised with its reliability considering LG Samsungs reliability in many of their products.

I skimmed through the video, but it was really interesting. I like the idea of measuring the water consumption. If the water flow sensor doesn't work, it might be possible to dump the drain pipe into a large container and then measure how many gallons went into the large container. Perhaps fill a big water storage drum or a cheap plastic wading pool (of unknown size) and then measure how many 5-gallon buckets it takes to empty the container.

I think its just an issue w/ the water pressure in this room I can fix with an expansion valve. The same flow meters worked in the previous LG video at another location in my business, so its a solvable issue.

I can't believe that these front loaders now have absolutely no water in them. If it wasn't for the recirculating pump there's no water in the drum.
@bensappliancesandjunk
@bensappliancesandjunk 4 ай бұрын
I would imagine that dunking the clothes in a small amount of water isn't what cleans them. Getting them soaked, then agitating them with the drum does. Going back to the old washboard analogy.... The agitation of the wet clothes is what causes the clothes to get clean, not their immersion in water.

I really don’t understand the problem with the time it takes. My Blomberg 9kg load (19 lbs )washing machine here in the UK takes 2 hours 33 mins to do a 40dg (104f ) cotton wash, luckily all front loaders here internal heaters that heat the water and keep it at the temperature, ( the joys of 240volt electric as standard ) my AEG heat pump tumble dryer takes 2 hrs 10 mins to dry a cotton 8kg ( 17lbs) I put the washing machine on before I go to bed and put it all in the dryer in the morning, or put it on in the morning do housework then put it all in dryer and start the next load off in the washer ( we actually have 2 washing machines and 2 tumble dryers, the cats have their own machine and is only ever used on 90dg (194f ) it’s never bothered me how long it takes, by taking that time to wash I know it’s done properly and rinsed properly both washing machines and both dryers cost less to run all together than just the old condenser dryer on its own that we had

@yamafanboy
@yamafanboy 4 ай бұрын
1. clean- yes fully dry- depends on load size, hot water plumbing availability, and also ambient temperature if I remember correctly 2. Watch his 30 min video where he discusses that. This one has an ace up its sleeve in the form of a low power consuming heating element that gives it a small advantage in my opinion 3. there are other modes... the low water level mode is just one of them but less water consumption is great for the environment right? so... pro? 4. most likely the answer will come down to how well the compressor is engineered cause that seems to be the only wildcard in the system. I am also expecting that there will be better results for those who obsess over keeping the filters clean and the system free from lint buildup. I hope it lasts as this is really a huge advancement for those who are planning to run it using renewable energy sources like solar.

Ok I got this. This is too long to do a wash and dry. I usually use my washer for about 6 minutes and my spinner about 3. I have to handle the clothes more but it works and I am not spending money on laundry. The spinner is the savior. I have no problem not having a dryer because I just hang all my shirts, shorts, and pants and put my undies and socks on clips and all dry in about an hour. I have my undies and socks in front of a fan and they dry then I put them away and the others are hanging in my closet away from dry clothes until dry. No problem especially in an apartment like mine. This is not for me. But, I am glad you showed me because I was going to spend the money. NOT NOW. I will by another w/s. The only thing I cannot wash is my big blankets and quilts. Small blankets, sheets pillow cases no trouble. Curtains no problem. I maybe go to the laundry mat once a year. But, I like seeing this. Watts down the drain, I can wash better in a large bucket placed in bathtub, run hot water into it, punch clothes up and down for a while, rinse a couple times, wring out by hand, then hang to dry. Been doing this for 4.5 years, after a cheapskate's washer broke, so just kept it up. Works great on gym clothes, and other quick dry stuff I wear. I can even do large towels this way. If it's raining in SOCAL like now, I just hang clothes on my bike, and run my 20 inch box fan, dries pretty fast. Builds hand muscles wringing. I combine the wringing and some more rinsing, while I take a hot shower. I guess the fan uses energy, but WAY less than that contraption. If you are single, and mostly wear modern quick-dry, gym type clothes, you TOTALLY don't need a washer or dryer.
