Most the my videos on my channel are 5K. But my challenge is in the winter riding with snow. Want to capture the trail so requires a more warm white balance but loses the pure white of the snow. So for now, sticking with 5500 in the snow. Welcome to come up to New England Clint for some testing.

I have to agree with your assessment, I was a little surprised as I’ve always thought that 5500k was a good all around setting outdoors but as they say “proof is in the pudding”. Seeing your test 5000k and possible 4500k are what looks more natural.

5000 was good and worked for me as well.

5000 to 6000 for most outside videos... But I don't really understand the numbers in those cameras, 5000K should be warmer than 6000K or 6500K, and 3000K even more warmer! Those numbers most probably are the compensation that the camera applies to get a picture warmer or cooler, not the real color temperature of the source.

Hi Clint...Nice video :) do you have any experience with WB when snorkeling ?I got some problems using AUTO. Sometimes it turns purple and then blue. That was on my Hero 6 under water. I'm going to use my Here 10 for snorkeling for the first time in February and would love some advice. BR Per from Denmark

Honestly I have not tried white balance settings under water yet. My best advice is to start around 5000 and then shoot a few test scenes, bracketing above and below that. If you’re able to dump them on your phone while you’re out doing your activity, you could spend about 15 minutes doing some samples and then figure out which going to work best. Let me know what you settle on!
