Jesus... I started running two years ago to lose weight and couldn't manage 500m without needing to slow down and walk a bit. I'm running my first half marathon on Saturday, and in training I'm doing 8k at 46 minutes, which is bad by everyone here's standards though I'm crazy proud of it and excited to keep going. Stuff like this is super inspiring, makes my challenges feel so much more possible!

This is incredibly inspirational. I love the emotional honesty in which this this run (climb more like it) has been recorded. The mind is an amazing thing, both a tool for conquest and self destruction. I'm really glad that you pulled through Göran. I like to think that when you pointed out a mountain top and said 'that is what we have to climb' (or something like that), you were referring to us, your viewers, and not just the other runners, as I think you know by now, you are never running alone, we are all with you, even if it is after the fact (cheesy, I know, but true nonetheless).

There are two thoughts in my head: Admiration and shock. The admiration is obviously about an extreme performance. Your guts, strength, endurance and love for Elin got you through what most people can only dream about. The experience will be with you forever. The feeling of completing that race will last a lifetime. Congratulations is both fitting and not enough. You inspire people, Göran! Your legs are strong, but your heart is stronger. The shock on the other hand is all about the preparation. As a professional coach who knows the ins and out of physical performance, how could you enter that race so unprepared? What stood in the way of your own knowledge? Ego? Wanting to create content for others to enjoy? I'm interested in learning more about your thinking before and after the race. I'm sure people would love to see a video about your key learnings from this experience - as an athlete that competed and performed, and as a coach with tons of knowledge about training, nutrition and preparation.
@goranwinblad3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joey for those nice words! As for the shock, in what way do you think that I was "so unprepared", when I talk about "feeling unprepared" in the video it is because I would have wanted to be a lot better prepared, it's not in the meaning I think it will be dangerous or harmful for me to do this. Of course you have doubts and are afraid of different scenarios before entering such a massive challenge and I would have loved to have been better prepared. But that's the way you often feel both as a coach and athlete with high ambitions that you would always have wanted to have done a little bit more. Of course I would have liked to have done more long runs the month leading into the race but my hip problems stopped me from preparing as optimal as I wanted. But my knowledge as a coach and physio told me that I still could try to finish the race without any high risk. And with the result in hand I was right, one week after the race I was running like normal without any pain. I don't understand how you can be so sure that I am unprepared based on your very little knowledge about my training, It's not possible to share every single detail on my KZbin channel for example I have talked very little about my nutrition strategy in my videos which I of course put a lot of thought into. An example of my training is that I during 2021 I have so far ran 2800km with 62000m of vertical gain which I found out was a lot more than 90% of the people entering this race. But thanks for your concern anyway and have a great day!
@JoeyKneecap3 жыл бұрын
@Göran Winblad Thanks for taking the time to answer. You are of course right, I do not know everything. My second part might have been too harsh and even unjust. Forgive me for jumping to conclusions. If I may, the reason why I felt you were unprepared where mainly based on two observations. The first was my "shock" when you said you'd never had done more than 50 kms before, and decided to break the 100 km mark in a mountain ultra with lots of elevation. To me, that sounded like an almost impossible challenge. Your base must be exceptional for enduring that majestic leap. I'm beyond impressed by that! The second part was about nutrition. I remember you mentioned in your last video that you had started testing different types of nutrition (gels and drinks) in the last week leading up to the race. That baffled me, and I remember leaving a comment about it on that video. But as you mention, you'd obviously done more than just that little part in preparation for the race. Thanks for clearing that up, and sorry for thinking you would take lightly on food and drink. May I ask what nutrition strategy and products you chose? From the race video it looks like you are eating solid foods at the aid stations and perhaps gels and sport drinks in between? How did your stomach handle food after such a massive effort?

Wowsers! Amazing run Goran. I remember that fear before 600km bike rides, sometimes like you here, being under prepared. That's an amazing achievement right there 🙂

Great job, what an amazing course and i understand the emotions you go thru. I just finished my first 50 mile race last week (not nearly as difficult as that course) and something just puts things into perspective of how much we have to be thankful for.

Just found your channel in the past week and have been catching up on your older videos. I just wanted to say that this was an amazing capture of your extraordinary effort. It’s amazing that the human body and mind is capable of such an extreme effort. And yes, I cried at the end as well! Keep it up! You’re giving me tonnes of motivation to push further in my own running.

I got emotional with you watching this, what an amazing journey you (somehow) managed to document! I've just signed up for the Ultra Trails Snowdonia 100K next may (about 1000m less elevation than yours) having never run further than 5K before today (did a 4mi long slow run ). But I've got a long history of hiking and have wild camped The Cumbria Way (80mi) and The West Highland Way (100mi) while carrying 16kg so I feel with consistent effort and that basis to work from I'm hoping I can make it to the finish line! Haha Thanks for the inspiration and all yours awesome videos I've just started consuming!
