What a light in this world he was, I still watch the final tour and have a good cry, to maintain hope and inspiration in these troubling times. One person CAN make a difference.He touched so many lives.An example of ethics, decency, compassion, thoughtfulness, activism,humility, that we sorely need to find our way back to in our civilized societies.I hope his family is doing well, now.

Gord Downie is incredible. The guy is the most humble and intelligent musician out there. He isn't full of himself and has never written a bad song. The Tragically Hip is by far the greatest Canadian band if not the greatest band of all time. I'll always love The Hip. Gord Downie is probably the only musician out there that i'd actually love to meet and have a conversation with.

He is just such a musical genius. He is wise, compassionate, smart, and most of all well thought out. At a concert, i got to shake his hand. I looked into his eyes and he had the most cunning look in the world. Go Tragically Hip. Go Canada! Good performance on Canada day too!

So this man and his wife have both been stricken with cancer....I'm at a loss for words here....So saddened...I lost a 35 year old nephew in January with Brain cancer that he carried with himself for at least 3 years. Only his wife, siblings and father knew about it. He didn't want anyone to treat him differently because of it. The strongest among us will do that, as I'm sure Gordon has done also. My salute goes out to man that has written and sung for the Greatest Band Canada has ever produced.

George has always been excellent at knowing exactly how to engage his interview subjects, saying just enough to pull them out of their shells, and then letting them say their peace. Even back in his MuchMusic days, you could tell he was going places. Only seen one interview of his go bad, Sebastian Bach, well after his Skid Row days, that was pretty damn funny to watch.

Sad,y, Ghomeshi was really talented at interviews as well, very informed and respectful and appreciative… his Tom Petty interview is supreme as a creative document. And he did really piss off BB Thornton for mentioning anything other than his band. Which is still funny… Pretending Thorton isn’t also a movie star, like what?

@jesterscheer8 жыл бұрын
George isn't that young. I mean he's been around for quite awhile. But I do agree that those questions were very silly, but most likely picked by a producer to fill the finish cut just in case they didn't get the responses they wanted for the show. That's why they are at the end of the interview.

I saw them in 1992 at Max Bell in Calgary. I kind of liked them before that but I didn't know what I was in for. Then they hit the stage and opened with 50 Mission Cap and Gord Downie was strutting across the stage using the mic stand like a warped parade marshall. The place was partied to the gills and he hit it 110%. AC/DC should be so lucky.

I had to laugh at his favourite childhood moment, only because I so understood it! I wasn't alive yet for the Bruins' cup victory in '72 but the whole neighbourhood heard me celebrating the win in 2011. Gord talks about his goofy stage antics in this interview. Like his killer whale tank rant and such. It seemed that stuff just got more and more strange as time went on. Maybe it was a symptom of his illness. Hard to say. I remember going to his Fully Completely and Day for Night concerts and he didn’t do those rants. Maybe said a few things in between sets. But he mostly stuck to the script of his songs. It was interesting though how he would improvise at times. I wonder how the band felt about all that stuff during a performance. They had to keep playing while he talked over the music and added new things. They never missed a beat though and always came in when he went back to original song. These guys could play their stuff blindfolded. The Hip Rocks. RIP Gordie.
