I come back to this one again & again. I add a little lemon juice and a splash of white cooking wine to my dressing and thinly slivered red onion to the salad. Serve with crusty bread. Outstanding!

In fairness the tuna is probably some amazing Spanish canned/jarred tuna that costs about 10 quid a go. Buying fresh tuna is probably the cheaper option.

@@vincemola No you're wrong mate actually sorry. I'm currently living in the south of Spain. You can pick up a beautiful fresh Mediterranean Tuna fillet here in the fish mongers for €6-10 (depending on the size) but some of the canned Basque Tuna in olive oil caught in the Cantabarian Sea, particularly ventresca, which comes from the belly, will actually set you back as much as €20 a can. And it probably goes more expensive than that. The Spanish take their fish very seriously believe me.

@@zimzimma5688 on AVERAGE, everywhere in the world, good quality fresh tuna is more expensive than good quality tin/jar tuna. BTW, congrats on living in a beautiful place!

@@vincemola Thanks mate, it's a lovely country alright, won't be here much longer unfortunately, but I enjoyed being here. Ah yeah, your average tuna in brine is always going to be cheaper, but you can usually find the expensive Spanish stuff in most supermarkets, at least in Europe anyway and they're even more expensive outside Spain with the import taxes. Have a look next time you're in the supermarket, some of the prices would make your eyes water!

A splendid re-interpretation of a classic french salad. In the original salad, there were no potatoes, pear nor cheese. To be honest this yummy beast is more of Salad Niçoise fusion.

Speaking of the boiled Eggs..the cooking time always depends on the egg size and whether they were fridged or not 😉..the right time is quite an own science 😁

The final dish looks appetizing. But I disagree with the dressing: no vinegar, no mustard. With salade niçoise, olive oil, salt, pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice are enough. The important in niçoise is the taste of vegetables.

Canned tuna is traditionally used in salad Nicoise because fresh tuna isn’t always available everywhere. Salad Nicoise is a recipe that was first created in as early as the 1950s.

@@katherinehunter535 "Salade niçoise" as a dish is very old (at least two centuries) and it originally was a food for poor people, made of what they picked in their vegetable gardens or directly in nature, plus anchovies. "Salade niçoise" as a name was apparently used for the first time in the 1910s.
