It’s a great idea for the keepers to be slicing up some of the vegetables for the gorillas right now. Yesterday I noticed that the troop grabbed the small pieces of yellow zucchini first, then the chunks of carrots that were available - while the whole eggplant remained untouched.

@@GrandRegentSScratch No, you got it wrong. Not saying the family is better off without Nene, but they are somewhat trying to cope with the situation. They have began to eat again and looking healthy. I am still praying and have never stopped for this family and especially Nene. Nene may be tired, old and weak but she’s still a feisty beautiful lady. Even though Nene’s presence isn’t with her family, they are beginning to eat more.❤️

@@luvcats120 I agree. I think part of it comes from being in the same group as her mother for so long. And also having her on birth control for so long. It doesn't seem like she has been in estrus since. Usually when a female is in estrus, she will aggressively pursue a Male, and we just haven't seen that from her for many years. I really like ai, but I think the only way she is going to have any more babies is if they move her to another group. And I would hate for shabani to have to deal with that.

@@bigboytoyz541 Very good point. I’m not sure a lot of daughters stay with their mothers over their lifetime, although this seems to be the case with some of the zoos in Japan. I forgot about her being on birth control, so it makes total sense that she would not be interested in mating. Thanks for the insight!

It seems that the troop is staying very close as to not get separated since Nene has been missing from everyday activities. They're being very cautious while wondering what's going on with Nene. I hope that She is able to return soon or that they set up time with Shabani and AI with Nene. To help with the grieving that with definitely happen as a result of losing the Queen Nene. 😢 ❤🦍❤🦍❤🦍❤🦍❤🦍👑

There's a huge shift in dynamics within this group now that Nene is (temporarily) absent. The remaining four are wandering around in Shabani's wake - perhaps more like they would in the wild. Personally, I'm glad Annie's wings have been clipped with Nene's absence, because there is no one else in this group that she will be able to bully. But, at the same time, it is sad to see the absence of play, or play fighting. It has certainly been an education watching them as to the depths of gorilla family bonds.

She's very, very old. There is basically zero chance she returns to point where her body is capable of handling young gorilla (like Annie) energy. I do not think she will successfully join the group again.

​@@denisemorris1177She could definitely have a happy, healthy for her age, few more years kept separately. It's also a good way for the group to get used to life without her while they are outside....but still see her daily. I think the keepers are doing a great job, and don't understand all the grief they get from commenters around the world who see such a small portion of the gorillas day and none of what's happening behind the scenes. I have several family members that work professionally with animals and I can assure you almost all of thwm have fully devoted their whole lives to these animals and care very much.

A few weeks ago she was dragging her right leg . She didn't move around and huddled on the floor. The next day she was climbing the ropes and missed and fell to the floor. Now she was in big trouble...not moving. Shabani was a nervous wreck fighting off Kyomasa and Annie. On the third day they moved Nene to the feeding room. AI was let in at times to sit with her Shabani as well. After a week of this they moved Nene to the basement. None of us know really how she's doing. Nene is 52 years old. That's ancient for a Gorilla 🦍. My feeling is she won't recover well enough to be outside anymore. She can't defend herself ( Kyomasa and Annie shove her and swat at her). Shabani was running after them all day on the first day of illness. He was worn out. AI has teamed up with Shabani to fight them off of her mother. Both were exhausted and not eating in the beginning of this tragedy.😢 My prayers are with Nen this strong matriarch and wife. God Bless her❤

@@01maggie Hi there ,she had 2 falls ,the second was when she was on the roof of the door going to the basement ,Annie came at her biting and just doing what she does ,Annie then turned around and jumped to the platform across the,Nene went after her and came up short to the same platform ,falling and landing on her right hip and leg ,I did not witness the fall from climbing the rope ,nene is in a room by herself with a screen window so they can all talk ,they said that she is getting stronger by doing some climbing and eating well ,she is getting better slowly ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇯🇵🇯🇵🇺🇸🇯🇵
