Gorillaz is billed as the first “Virtual Band” with only 2 continuous members, the singer/producer and the artist. Each album has a guest co-producer and is a collaboration with many many many guest musicians (some very surprizing). The singer is from the Brit-pop band Blur, and the artist is from the Indy comic series Tank Girl. While their commercial hey-day was the early 2000s their catalog is deep and extremely rewarding

It always makes me a little bit nostalgic when I hear Damon Albarn´s voice. Used to be quite a bit of a Blur fan back in the 90´s and I still think their creative potential was bigger than that of many comparable 90s Brit Pop acts. Unfortunately they broke up, just when they began to really let this potential shine. Gorillaz, I love their art style, their sound and Damon´s voice obviously. I also think the the rap parts just flow like they should. However, I´ve never been much into rap music, so that´s more of a feeling than something I can provide any sort of evidence on. In general they are, for my personal taste, a bit too much cross-over, a bit too much all over the place, while I can see that exactly this might appeal to others.
