Just like Maha Kali(Great Kali), Lord Shiva is Kirati God or God of the Kirat people from the Himalayas regions including Nepal. Maj Gaurav you could have also included the centuries old Indo-Nepal bond (a part of our sanathan dharma) and how deeply our culture and heritage are intertwined. Also the respect the Indian army has for these brave hardy people who consider India as their home. You could have also included a few of the epic and famous battles fought by them for e.g. The Battle of Cassino, the Falkland war where they were the first wave of troops sent in by the British. Also list out the decorations earned by their units. A few words on their simple trusting nature and what a happy go lucky people they are. A coverage of their Dusshera celebrations. Thanks for the good coverage of 58 GTC, my father joined the 8 GR there as a young boy before the WW II. He fought in Arakans, Burma and was a member of Chindit expedition too. Till the early 20th century Kathmandu Valley was known as the Nepal. There were 3 main kingdoms in the valley, Kantipur, Bhaktapur n Lalitpur, were ruled by the Malla kings. In the 18 th century, Prithivi Narayan Shah, King of Gorkha, 100 km West of Kathmandu, started expanding his kingdom and conquered the Kathmandu Valley in 1780s. His daughter in law n second son Bahadur Shah, continued further expansion and new Nepal extended from Teesta river in the East to Sutlej in the West. The Gorkhali Army fought with China and Great Britain during the expansion, the super powers of the era, and proved their bravery. The British realising the fighting qualities of the Gorkhas, decided to recruit them into their Army.
