I think it’s interesting. It seems to concentrate the flame in a tighter pattern which seems optimal for the smaller diameter pot and pot support. The ability to use the simmer ring even in the narrow support is a huge feature.

After your review on the Steampunk, I took a deep look at Goshawk. I ended up with at least 5 of their stoves or burners. The Victoria was my favorite. A nice, fairly compact, efficient stove. The vortex flame pattern seems to keep the flame coherent and free flowing.

My family is partial to alcohol (spirit burner) type stoves for many reasons. Any improvement in efficiency or durability will always be welcome. We are able to obtain high-purity ethanol here in the Philippines without too much difficulty. We are able to use our alcohol stoves almost everywhere including areas where open fires and even butane stoves are frowned upon. Thank you for the review and we will be watching for any updated information. Now, off to hit the like button and go search for the availability of this product from our friends down under.

It'd be interesting if you weighed the fuel consumption of both of them to them for the time for the water to boil. That way we'd get an estimation on how much fuel we'd have to carry with each one. In my opinion that'd be an even better comparison
@neologian1783
@neologian1783 Жыл бұрын
That's always been so hard for me to pin down accurately. So many things go into boil time....starting water temp, wind, altitude, that I find it really difficult to do anything other than carry about 20% more fuel than I"m sure I'll need.

@@hansakermann I agree and that's my point I suppose. For that very reason I see no point in measuring things like a 20 second difference in boil time between two clone stoves. That miniscule variance simply isn't enough to change my fuel calculations for anything like a 2-5 night trip e.g. you're gonna pack the same amount of alcohol no matter which of these two stoves you pack. (Meanwhile anyone running their stopwatch to clock their stove in the back country is doing it wrong IMO.) For me it means all this hyper-focus on such tiny variances is just "geeking out" over essentially nothing and choosing one Trangia style stove over a 100% clone of the exact same Trangia style stove based on such a miniscule difference is funny to me I guess. If you like the stove cool. But let's not pretend it's a breakthrough that somehow re-defines the category. Need to boil water fast but not really "cook"? Grab and integrated cannister stove "system"...(or pocket rocket style burner if you are also weight conscious)....almost any one will do as there are only minor differences between most letig brands. Hell even some of the Chinese knock offs seem to perform pretty well. Want simple, light, silent, and intend to cook or simmer but don't like packing cannisters around? Any Trangia style / spirit burner stove will do as there are only minor differences between legit brands. Need to melt snow at higher altitudes where cannisters can start to fail? Manually pressurized white gas stoves....any brand will do. Pick the system you like based on weight or pack size since when it comes to performance, there are only minor differences between the legit ones Enjoy bush crafting in reasonably dry conditions and like the idea finding fuel rather than packing it?: Debris stove. Almost any version will do as there are only minor differences between legit brands.

Personally I think GOSHAWK really missed a trick here to forge ahead of the competition with this particular take on the timeless TRANGIA stove . Had they made this from Titanium and included a threaded top and simmer ring they would have achieved what EVERNEW and all the various Ti knock offs have thus far failed to deliver , the functionality of a classic with the lightweight benefits only Titanium can offer the lightweight camper and outdoor enthusiast .Of course it may be something Titanium pioneers Snow Peak , Evernew or even Trangia are working on , but until it lands there remains an unfulfilled marketplace anomaly .

As an automotive engineer, I can attest to the fact that the reason small 'cottage' companies like Goshawk don't often use titanium is because of the cost of pressing it on small manufacturing runs...

Thank you so much for your video & comments. I used my old Svea for years & it just kept buzzing along. My Trangia was great as a backup or to make a cuppa when meeting a friend for lunch at a park. The simmer ring was a bit weird - it clipped to the side below the jets & didn't work very well. The aluminum potstand is long gone so I need to take my tin snips to an appropriate ly sized can & borrow a drill to make a new potstand. Both stoves were from the 70s. I've watched a lot of your videos & I really appreciate the time & effort you expend to such a good job. I like that you know the science & do the science as best you can w/ your busy life & time constraints. Thanks again!

I enjoy using alcohol stoves. My first was the Trangia 27 cook set. the only downside was the burn time...20 to 30 minutes with maximum fuel. Last year I purchased an alcohol stove from Pathfinders (selfrelianceoutfitters) and with 25% of fuel...it burned for an hour. It's not made of brass but stainless steel.

I like the look of it. Based on your review I might consider it if I needed a stove of that design. The primary mode of failure for this stove might well be corrosion from incorrect storage. As a happy Trangia user I´ll probably stick with my Trangia. With the minor gain in boil time I just cannot justify getting this stove. My oldest Trangia is more than 20 years old, still going strong and presumably durable enough for handing it down.

I like the pot stand and the vortex flame. It seems stable, but I'm not sure it's as stable as my triangle. I enjoy these review videos, but I need another stove like a hole in my head. If I didn't have two Trangia clones already, I'd consider this one. It seems faster, and it's less expensive than one of my Trangia clones plus my Triangle clone. I'd like to know how well it stores alcohol. My clone stores alcohol, but it corrodes a bit after a while, so I don't store alcohol in it, and I let it burn out before I put it away.

Your boil times are going to be significantly longer when you use a titanium pot. Titanium resist’s heat so well it concentrate’s the heat at the point of flame contact where it will glow red, while the sides will be almost touchable.

Capillary stoves are generally faster than wick alcohol stoves, so no surprise. If all you’re doing is boiling water, faster is better. But they also burn fuel faster and that along with the heat may not be better for real cooking.

Pretty fast boil time but not much total burn time. The smaller flame ring contributes to efficiency and faster boil time because the flames don't go up the side of the pot. It's EASY to boil faster. Just make more or larger jets. I've made burners with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 jets. and the diameter makes a BIG difference in boil time and fuel burn efficiency. While working on my squirt cheese can stoves, I found I could get a 4 minute boil of 2 cups 65F water. But as with the Goshawk, the total burn time was fairly short, coming in at about 7.5 minutes. So I embarked on a months-long build and test project to get the most efficient stove possible. Efficiency as defined by boiling the most water on the (standard) one ounce of fuel. That culminated in the last design that boiled 4 cups of 65F water on one ounce of alchohol with 20 sedconds of burn after boil. Granted, the boil time was longer than the Goshawk but I wasn't shooting for a fast boil. My calculations show that burner was 50% efficient. That is, 50% of the available heat energy in the fuel was put to work boiling water. NTFB. See it at Tom Loves DIY KZbin channel. Given the times you got, I think the Goshawk is about 35% efficient. i.e. 65% of the heat energy in the fuel is wasted. sounds critical but I do like the Goshawk's screw on cap and simmer ring.

Is it possible to do these tests on the measuring scale using a heat pad or similar? An overhead shot will show the boiling point via the thermometer and at the same time show the fuel used (yes, you might have to press the measuring scale occasionally so it doesn't time-out). Seems to have a hotter more concentrated flame structure than a Trangia but it uses more fuel given that the Trangia has a much longer burning time. Depends on what you want the stove to do.........boil faster or cook food with less chance of burning and longer heating times. Still, the Victoria seems like a winner if it doesn't develop internal problems with the jets.

I know that the tragia or possibly any other alcool burner don't really perform the same when it's used for some time or when it's brand new/has just been cleaned. So i was wondering if you clean up the trangia before you make any test comparison with other burners? On your video your trangia seems quite "clean", and i don't recall you mentioning when if/when you have cleaned it before the test (just a thought). On the other side with about 1 minute difference in boil time, i don't really know if a pristine brand new trangia would have this much performance gain? May be you can share your personal thought about it?

Nice flame. It woulda been cool to see the simmer ring adjustments/abill'ies. From their stock photos it looked like on or off. ~ In that, how long/how low could it simmer with a full tank O fuel vs...? I've been impressed with flames achieved on home made copper tube capillary jobbies. I have heard mention it's not best practice to let a Trangia burn completely dry of fuel. Might not hold true with the capillary design? Brass cracking? Is that a wives tale, phenomenon even with ammo brass in a Perfect storm...horse urine atmosphere storage? (-: Does the capillary design just say; here hold my beer and watch this? Like me for giggles sakes. I'll never use one for boiling a pot of water unless steaming something. Coffee in the wood? My tail wags too much when out to bother with. Rehydrated foody as an Ultra-light hiker I'll never. ~ Simmering is a different story/question on my end. Simmering two and a half re-fills longevity of simmering. Do they both or neither slow fuel consumption? Oh yeah, lets watch a pot for prior flame out...take back yer Frisbee, my fish bobber went down. (-: Lots of my twaddle. But actually I cannot find how long a Trangia burns for using the simmer ring 1/3rd cocked closed (limit?). Does the new tuber deflect heat or slow rate of fuel burn? Happy spring all ~
