I am an American falconer. I have flown just about any hawk or falcon you can name and I still prefer and now only fly Redtails. You can bring any exotic you want and with a well trained Redtail I'll take as much game as anyone.

I was a young falconer when I got a imprint Goshawk. I flown Red-tails, Kestrels and a Red-shouldered Hawk. The Goshawk was such a amazing hunter. I flew Goshawks the rest of my falconry career.

Very good video. My relatives are from India where falconry has been since at least 600BC. Now with our current govt, all falconry and hunting is illegal in India. But there are still a proud few individuals underground who still practice the noble tradition. I dream of one day hunting with a Brahminy eagle.

I am an American falconer and after having tried them all I now fly only Redtails for a variety of reasons. One of which is I can trap a passage bird any fall any time I want. How do you obtain your Redtails? They are not native across the pond. How are you allowed to posses them in Europe? I thought they were prohibited as potential invasive species. Also the use of ferrets is illegal here. Of course our rabbits don't live in and rarely go into burrows so ferrets would be of little use anyway. Nice video btw.

I like the look of the northern goshawk and the gyrfalcon but that is just aesthetics. I do find it so interesting that the dog and the ferrets are used. I am surprised the raptors don't go after the ferrets, is that innate or are they taught that? I guess hunting dogs that actually kill the prey would not work with the raptors as they might hurt/kill the raptor when they both eventually end up with the prey....especially if the raptor catches it and the dog rolls up on them. I was thinking of beagles or a west Siberian laika.

I rather believe Roy should know that Goshawks are, as their name suggests hawks, NOT falcons. I flew Gos on hills and farms around Inverness where I was MORE CORRECTLY known as an AUSTRINGER...NOT a falconer. Though along with my Gos (females for weight and size) I also flew Saker and before restrictions a Peregrine.

Adam Johnson I would've said a Harris Hawk however is you're going to school then you probably won't have enough time to meet all of the bird's needs. Unless of course you're lucky and home-schooled :) I'm 14 now and really want a bird but as I have to go to school every day, not enough time. Always put the bird's needs first, if you work hard enough you shall always get that bird one day. If you want to talk more then visit my channel and use the discussion section, happy to help myself having studied Falconry and Birds of Prey for 5 years now. Just shows you how long I've had to wait! Bradley

Anybody know how fast goshawks fly and how they compare to falcons?
@dooka74
@dooka74 10 жыл бұрын
They're quite fast birds, they are also very persistent in catching prey. They can weave in between trees and brush, but sometimes deliberately crash into things while pursuing prey.
@luciaharris6441
@luciaharris6441 10 жыл бұрын
They're not as fast as falcons in open ground considering they cannot dive like many falcon species, although they're more successful hunting in woodland area (especially dense woodland) due to their higher level of agility than falcons and the incredible rapid bursts of speed they have once they have spotted prey. They're pretty damn fast in their own right; a lot of prey isn't aware of a gos until it has talons in its back.

A goshawk has phenomenal acceleration and a tops speed between 45 and 55 miles an hour. Goshawks don't like to stoop so they power after their prey on extremely energetic bursts of speed. Falcons by comparison are longer winged and are more prepared for open areas. On the flat a falcon can easily push 60 to 70 miles an hour but more than double that speed easily in a dive. Goshawks have shorter, broader wings, longer tails and fairly low wingloading which allows them phenominal lift, stablity, and acceleration at all speeds as well as great agility. Falcons by comparison are shorter tailed, longer winged, more plum bodied (still very low wing loading) and have narrower tapered or pointed wings (depending on the species). This allows for an incredible ability to simply cut through the air with modest acceleration but a great top speed. Goshawks aren't like other accipiters. Their wings are very broad in the base and then narrow into a falcon like taper at the tips. Most other accipiters have short broad wings that have rounded tips. Porportionally, they also are rather long winged, having a wing just as typically, long as the body where in smaller species the wing would be less than the length of the body. Falcons typically have wings just as long as the body or longer. In other words, falcons have long primaries and short secondaries since thrust is their biggest concern during flight. Their primaries tend to be longer than their secondaries which corresponds to a bird built for either fast flight or flight in high winds. Goshawks tend to have primaries and secondaries that are the same length. However the secondaries are much broader than the primaries and the primaries are realtively narrow. Another bird that shares a wing similar to this are the mighty doves and pigeons. The wing design allows you to get to your tops speed as fast as possible without sacrificing agility. At the same time, it provides extra lift in tight turn and extra lift when in vertical ascending flight.

Peter who knew Yah's LAW comprehended there was another meaning to the vision & that Yah didn't somehow cleanse unclean animals which CAME BEFORE 'The LAW' which was added & to be removed. Instead, Peter "doubted in himself" because HE KNEW Yah's LAW was still in effect and he understood the TRADITIONS of men calling the dispersed or with uncertain genealogies - UNCLEAN to eat with.
