I believe she lived. And her joining her friends is her mind continuing to fight. It's not like she would miraculously be cured. But now she's recovering.
25:22 for the meme. Context is they were bullying her and asking her to strip, and taunting her with money. So she took off her belt.. wrapped up her fist... and taught a lesson.
Taking a light-hearted show who poked fun at some of the conventions of super robot shows only to make this surreal, mind screwy and honestly introspective movie is ballsy and honestly kind of a stroke of genius. I love it, but man do I hate the way this movie makes me feel. In my head Remy ends up surviving. Fight fate and win.

Most likely she didn't die. While her heart rate stopped for a moment, making her friends and the viewer to lose hope convinced she died despite their prayers, the nurse found that her heart started beating again. To understand this story you must take Japanese mythology and folklore into account, as wel ancestor worship. Remember that she defeated the embodiment of fate, the monster cat or Bakeneko cat with one percent chance. Seeing also that Remy saw her friends as family it could also be a retelling of Nabeshima bakeneko story. Bakeneko can even devour their master. It could therefore be that the cat resembled the cancer in real life. Remy fought fate/ cat and won. Therefore defeating cancer with that one percent in real life. And she was reunited with her friends in her dreams. Lastly, she lifted her hand as a pistol, showing she won the fight, which she also did in real life, despite being in coma. This is why her body got in remission of the cancer in real life. The ending suggest therefore that fighting will go on even when they all indeed have past away through the next generation. Anime like Neon-Genesis also used a dream for it's ending but with real life consequences.

This film was written by the person who wrote the fitst five years years of the pokemon anime and directed by the person who directed the pokemon movies.
I remember watching this as a kid back in the 80s. Back in the days when anime were supposed to be for kids. This anime kind of traumatized me. I was expecting something like GoShogun. Man, was I wrong.

A classic anime with modern style of story telling...It has a strong protagonist female character, most of the story occur in a dream/nightmare sequence, reminds me of Jacob's Ladder (1990). It also has ambiguous ending like Christopher Nolan's inception or James Cameron's Titanic. A psychological thriller but with heartwarming epilogue....really ahead of its time.

I seen this in 98 or so. All I remembered was it was dark, had zombie type people, the girl in the bath, and the guy picking the shotgun up instead of all the other guns on the ground. About 4 years ago I tryed to find it no luck. But tonight I just put on a random film and here it was! I can't believe it, I searched so hard and failed. Then BAM! RANDOMLY came on! I think I'll do the lotto Tomorrow!

I remember watching this on vacation in Turkiye, and hating it. Mainly because it idid't show the robot. The reason I watched the series in the first place as a kid was for the robot. Btw, the series was called macron 1 in the EU. I don't remember if it was super channel or sky channel that used to air it.
