Olympic Gold Medallist Russell Mark explains one of the most important fundamentals to master if your goal is to be an elite clay target shooter is to master a pre-shot routine. This follows on from an earlier video on the same topic.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Go Shooting’s KZbin channel is designed for all shotgun shooters that want to improve their skill level. Our coaching videos are aimed to easily understand the basic fundamentals of the sport. They are perfect for all the disciplines of the clay target sports, hunters or simply recreational shotgun enthusiasts wanting to gain a little more understanding on how to hit their target more consistently.
Go Shooting is owned and operated by Olympic Gold Medallist Russell Mark and his wife Lauryn Mark, a two time Olympian and triple Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist.

Great advice. The mental game is so crucial yet often not given the respect and weight it deserves. We need to accept that it’s our brain preventing us from a perfect score and not our gun or shell selection. This is why I abstain from caffeine before shooting. It makes my mind race and think too much.

Hi Mark, thanks again for your wonderful videos. Can you please make a video on DTL shooting in wind. Or can you just share any suggestions on how to shoot on windy days. Should one modify hold points or anything else. If yes, what modifications to make and how ?

Hi Russell, could you answer my question please? You have touched on the subject of vision and seeing the target while shooting in past videos and Kayle Browning has also touched on this subject. In your video as I understood you emphasised on peripheral vision while Kayle said that she was fixated with central vision during the whole flight of the target. This is a very important topic to me and I would like to understand what to do after the target is out. To look directly at it and try to bring the gun to the place where I am looking, or to leave it in the peripheral vision and make a movement without a rigid connection to the target. Thank you in advance for your answer

Its a complex topic, but this much I know, Regardless of where you start your vision when calling for the target, or even how broad you are initially using your peripheral vision, what you must do when setting your eyes is keep them perfectly still for a couple of seconds before asking the target to be released. Research a topic called "Quiet Eye" and you will have your answer.

What if you don't get pressured during the pre-shot routine? I just go through the muscle memory and shoot on instinct. It's more of a zen no thought.

Do you guys believe in “crossfiring” the off eye for whatever reason takes over when shooting? Is there anyway of knowing whether the shooter is doing this?
