Your videos are so beneficial to me. I have a travel trailer which I will be letting go. Although I like the idea of building my own custom van, being realistic, that prob wont work for me. The best option I have found so far is the Winnebago Travato GL. It is a new unit and I trust that Winnebago will work out the kinks. I hope they watch your videos and read the comments to incorporate the changes that will make this great RV even better!

What a great video that you put out this week. I really enjoyed your good things about your rig and the bad things of your rig. You always put some kind of tidbit of information into your videos that other travato youtubers don't add. I look forward to your videos and I have been a subscriber since your second video. What amazes me is that how much you have grown as a full time RVer. Keep up the great work, Scott.

Scott, that was very well done. I really liked BOTH lists. Very impressed with the build quality (You've been in it now for 2 years, at least 30 States & over 50k miles- and, it still looks great!) The Ram Promaster has treated you guys well, there have been really small, repairable issues addressed (not too many!) & you are happy with the Sumo springs upgrade for increased ground clearance & improved ride. Really huge endorsement of the product- in a backhanded sort of way? Really, really impressed with the video & your overall success in making it work. It probably helps that you have NOT had to live in a service parking lot for a long time as well. Bonus for team GSLL!

@@gosmall.livelarge Thank you, Scott! I DID watch it...ahem, after I posted the above comment. It's the ADHD, can't focus long enough to watch a channel in order, and- too lazy to look for something more recent! The transmission was a 2 week bummer, but- mostly (still) its been pretty robust. I know that you've lost that deep trust you had for the 1st year, but- actually, the Ram & the Winnebago have done you right considering 60k+ miles & full time living in it. (However, you and your currently bald pardner have done a very good job of maintaining it as a 'home', instead of a car.)

Scott, Great video we just sold our 2019 Travoto 59G, it was a love hate relationship! Loved the design and layout, HATED, HATED HATED the roof mount AC unit, even on the lowest setting it sounded like a jet engine at 200 decibels and you could also hang a side of beef in to it was so cold. I noticed C class units twice the size of the Travoto with the exact same AC unit? Second thing we could not stand was programming the Truma system, really frustrating! Our new Airstream has AC with ductwork and a switch to on hot water, so nice! Everything you mentioned that was good is very true! Keep up the good work! Former Travoto owner!

You're really selling me on this RV and this floorplan. I need room for a litter box and was happy to see there's room in the bathroom. The biggest drawback for me is the size of the bed. My fella is 6'2" and I'm 5'5" and the bed looks just big enough for me.

The only fixable problem i had at 60,000 miles was the toilet connection clamp to tube was loose, tightened and added sealant all OK:) My model still had the long three way propane fridge which as we and i know does not work at all, Winnebago FINALLY agreed also and NOW uses compressor fridges now. These are excellent used.

I agree with your decision to go with Winnebago and agree with almost everything on your list. The cabinets and overall colors on these models are not very appealing, but the white vs dark would make it seem more spacious without a doubt. The drawers vs cabinet is also an excellent idea as I have these in my home. My drawers are much more used than the cabinets. Plug placement is also a pet peeve of mine but I have to say It looks like you have it setup nicely. Last but certainly not least Volta is a must. Nice video, thank you.

There are currently recalls out on the Promaster for the Transmission Solenoid and problems with the Radiator Fans overheating and causing fires. Please check to see if your vehicle might be on the list. I have a 2016 PM van camper van. Otherwise, it's a great vehicle, 18.6 mpg, and that's pulling a trailer with a Ural Sidecar Motorcycle. If you ever make it to Buffalo NY, look us up.

I agree with your general assessment of the Travato, it is a really well designed and executed rig. However I have had more warranty issues with my pro master van, you have to go to Dodge for these issues.I have a 2016 pro master 3500 and have had the following replaced at no cost to me: In dash radio (distress message on screen was in Italian), Driver side half axle (Bad/torn grease boot, probably caused by something I hit), battery (shorted cell), just recently at 30,000 miles recall/replaced solenoid pack in transmission, still another recall issue to replace engine cooling fan when replacement is available. The biggest issue I had was with the alignment. It was way out of Dodge's specification. It needed a major four wheel alignment. I am pleased with the response and repair results I have received from Dodge. In every issue, they addressed it and fixed it. However, I wish there were less issues. I'd also like to add that I added sumo springs front and rear. In addition I replaced the rear anti-sway bar (Roadmaster brand), and now the rig goes like an arrow straight and true. I really do like the way this rig drives, sips gas (16MPG), comfortable seats and wide view of the road.

PAULA O I have a 2020 Promaster and the reason I prefer it to Ford or Mercedes is the interior is wide enough for a sideways bed. The issues reported in Promaster are in earlier models irritations pre 2017. The Promaster has fewer electronic aids like the lane keeping warnings etc. which I don’t want in my van. The interior I had built for me at Custom Coach Creations in DeLand Florida. Time will tell but they built to my design and they took great care to do what I want and do it well. Less than $90,000 including tax and title etc...They build what you want on whatever vehicle you want. Built by hand. Hope that helps.

Happy 1 year of ownership!!! My 5 month vanniversary (of full-timing) was yesterday and I agree with almost everything you've said. I actually can't wait to get to my house in Texas this week so I can take EVERYTHING out of "Lucille" and purge/reload. I do love my Remis windshield shade but it completely fell apart so that's one thing that I'll be getting fixed soon. Other than that I have been happy with my rig so far. My biggest issue is space and feeling like I am living in a car. But that's not the van's fault, its the trade off for having something I can drive/park anywhere. Hopefully reorganizing will help. PS: If you are worried about your dinette seats getting dirty Pack-n-Play sheets are a perfect fit for washable cushion covers. Happy New Year!

Lucille!!! Love that name. Yeah, I think purging will help. Consider removing warning labels if you haven't done that already. Might put up stickers and artwork inside Lucille. Your videos have my wife and I are seriously interested in buying a small RV. We went to a LaMesa RV show in Scottsdale and couldn't believe the high quality of the Travato and its more thought out interior compared to the other RVs at the show. (The travel trailers at the show had especially terrible quality.) It's interesting that Winnebago is making their Class Bs to a higher standard than the rest of their product line based on what we saw at the RV show.

Hi, Scott. Excellent, well-balanced review. I understand that the Ram Pro Master van has no driver’s seat height adjustment. Is this true? If so, it would make this setup unusable for really short (or tall) drivers. I believe that I would like the same floor plan in a Ford Transit platform. Also, the small tank capacities in the Travato may not work for me. Thank you for the excellent work!/Warren

I agree with you about the capacity of the tanks being small. The counter to that is there is only so much room and weight the vehicle can carry. The Boldt has a large capacity for all its tanks and the LP but they have to 4 tires on the back axle. I thought about the Boldt and if they had the G floor plan for it I might have been tempted

One year, 28 states and only 30,000 miles. I drove from FL to Alaska and home and it was 16k miles. I'm not following your math, sorry. I agree with many of the posts; too much clutter. We (wife and I along with our Australian Sheppard) RV with a 15' teardrop trailer pulled by a Jeep Grand Cherokee and we work hard to be comfortable but not surrounded by "stuff". For us, being neat and organized allowed us to enjoy the journey as well as the destination. Reason I point this out; we camped next to a young lady of 65 who lived in a Travato year round and had been so for several years. She told us it was fun at first but she quickly realized that she was trying to live in her Travato as she had in her home and after only a few months she was regretting her decision. Then she met a group of like minded individuals who gave her some great advice. Take everything out of the Travato and repack with what you need not what you want or think you may need. Put the rest into storage and travel a few months and see if things aren't better. She took their advice and and it made a huge difference in her life. She jokingly told us she hasn't been to her storage unit in a year since she packed it. You mention you can boon dock as you generate your own power and I'm guessing your fridge is electric/propane. Have you considered upgrading to an electric/propane/solar powered model?

Loved your review. I am trying to get my wife to try the RV traveling. Glad to hear the good report about Winnebago in Rockford. I really want to take a look at the 59GL as well. If you are handy, you might try one of the pop-up ac receptacles at are used in other RVs to solve your outlet placement issues. Search "pop up outlet" on Amazon for a bunch of them. I installed one on my desk at home. It should be fairly easy to wire it into the back of the GFCI outlet below the galley counter. This would maintain the GFCI protection around the wet sink area.

If anyone is not a fan of the 2020 Travato 59G (prior to the changes) all you need do is see the new version. Once you see the new model in person you will love the older model. Honestly I got a chance to see the new version yesterday and based on the construction quality and the much higher list price I doubt I would ever consider Winnebago again. We are extremely happy with our 2019 59K with the dark non glossy cabinets. The new model I saw yesterday was shockingly awful. I've seen better cabinetry in the furniture section of Wal-Mart. Winnebago better get their act together because other brands are going to eat their lunch.

Thank-you for the info, very helpful. Love this vehicle, but I have to say, propane is much more energy dense than batteries for cooking and heating, plus I want an oven. Also, have you ever seen a Lithium Mine? Lithium is extremely toxic and polluting to dispose of, and I shouldn't be left without power/ability to heat and cook because of software, geez. Old school propane all the way for me.

Thank you for the review....One correction re: heating efficiency. The most efficient heating system (BTUs in vs BTUs out) is electric or resistance heating. The efficiency of electric heating is basically 100 percent. My guess is that your propane heater is in the area of 86 or so percent efficient. Lots of heat from your propane heater goes out the vent. That doesn't happen with electric heat. Most people confuse efficiency with cost..two different terms.
@gosmall.livelarge
@gosmall.livelarge 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks James. Appreciate your technical analysis. I was referring to consumption of resources for the amount of heat. The Truma is super efficient with the propane burn too. Thx for watching and taking time to comment
@bb5242
@bb5242 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe so, but electric heat in a home is the most expensive type and having lived in a house like that, it never feels truly warm ever. Contrast with a wood stove or pellet stove, maybe it is the humidity I don't know, but electric heat sucks.

It's great to hear your thoughts on +/- of the Travato after one year and 30K miles. I agree with all that you have said especially ground clearance. I have the 2020.5 version that comes with the sumo springs (which is now standard feature) and it's still not enough. I would like to see another 6-8" of clearance. A couple of other items I would put on the negatives for the the T: Radio & video screen is horrible and there is no Apple Play??. My standard iPhone has a bigger screen. I put an Alpine radio with a 9.5" screen what a difference. Great thing about this addition is that it will also give information about the car engines in digital numbers including tire pressure. No spare tire rack. That should at least be an option from Winnebago not making us go to 3rd parties for this feature. The only problem I've had with mine so far is faulty Tire Pressure Monitors. In three months I am on my 3rd set. Frustrating. I still love this van. Looking forward to your internet video because that is a big problem for me as well

Thanks for all the great content! I’ve been binge watching for the last week. I plan to pickup my new 2021 Travato 59G in about two weeks. It happened fast - I found this unit just last week available coming off dealer demo stock at a good $ - had $ down on a travel trailer but feel the Class B would be easier to drive-and-go. Do you have a video or tips on what we should do when we pick up from the dealer? Checklist of must have items for initial setup?
@gosmall.livelarge
@gosmall.livelarge 3 жыл бұрын
WOW!!! Michelle… I’m so excited for you. You came up with a great idea for a video. Adding it to my queue (which is lengths). My tips would be: #1 Do a thorough walk through with your dealer to understand to more complex system in the Travato, such a electrical. YOU work each of the main systems with their coaching. #2 Don’t buy a bunch of stuff to load up your Travato. Buy as you go and load a few things from your residence. #3 Stay overnight in your driveway for a few nights, single night at first, and a consecutive 48 hours the next time to get a feel for all systems, including toilet, shower and sink #4 Test your electrical system running with solar and generator with AC and test your propane system for cooking, heat, and hot ware. #5 First “trip” should be to a near by RV Park or Campground up to 2 hours away. This allows you to test the systems and items that you have packet in from your residence. #6 At the campground or RV park do your “Tank Duty” of emptying tanks and filling tank. After that, you should feel quite confident in your Travato expertise! Congrats again on getting your vanlife. Your journey is getting underway :)

Yeah, that Travato warranty sucks and with all the other great vans out there that have better warranties......., it really is a deal breaker for me. I just don't like it when a company doesn't have the faith, to say their product is good. And a long warranty for me, says "we have a great product, buy from us". Congratulations on your 1 year Vanniversary. The Travato 59g layout is being on my list because of the bench seat, but that is also what is holding me back from purchasing one. to me I don't find it comfortable, the back is too straight. Another one that I like the layout is the new Winnebago Solis. By looking at the pictures you could tell the bench seats are more comfortable but is lacking the Volta system, I wish they could offer the Solis with a similar system as the GL and KL.

Vanniversary!!! Love it :) The back rest on the dinette bench seat doesn't have much lumbar support. I think that might be because it converts into a bed. I solved the lumbar issues with (literally) a Dollar Tree $1 pillow. I tuck it behind me and perfectly adds the right amount of lumbar support without taking up any "storage" room.

Can the TV be moved to a better spot? Also I think there is too much stuff above the back seat. I would rather see it neatly put away so a child cannot tinker with my settings.. also can you lock the gas tank? I wish it was cleaner looking on the outside. On the driver’s side, there is too much visible stuff. I really like your channel and I follow you faithfully. Thinking about visiting Rockford to look at one. I think I want a self build van because there is too much devices that can be much simpler and cheaper and made for me. Right now, Winnebago has me depending on pricing. LOVE THE FRIG, BED, AND TABLE SITTING IN FRONT! I am not confident that I can operate this van because it seems very difficult. Do they give free classes to help you operate it confidently. Hi Lena. Appreciate your thoughtful comments. - TV, not many places to put it. It does swing away from the wall so one could sit in the trend around passenger cab seat and watch with great comfort. - Definitely pay a visit to Mick at Winnebago Motor Homes in Rockford. Spend ample time sitting, standing, walking, laying down in, and test driving the Travato. Once you get used to the size (like a large Suburban style vehicle) I think you will manage very well. The van is very easy to drive. You will likely love the seating position being up high in traffic. - Lots of single ladies Travatoing on the road. Your Travato comes with a "built-in family". Check out the Facebook group Travato Owners and Wannabees and see how we/they support each other. Look forward to seeing you commanding the road in your new Travato! Grab your RV freedom :)

Loved renting the KL model... we had an issue with losing all battery power because I didn't realize Mix 1 was using electric and gas for heating (got down to 26 degrees at night). Should have kept it at Gas only. Because of this experience, I am a little concerned with the Embassy all electric no propane RV. What are your thoughts? At 12:25 you mention water not draining through. Not sure what you mean. We had city fill at RV park and kept gray water open so it would drain. Can you clarify? Thanks for sharing your experiences! Embassy uses a different heating system that draws from the chassis fuel tank it doesn’t use electric ], though it might be an option like the Travato. Nice video, thank you! The problem with awning windows is that you lose all stealth. When you open those windows everyone knows someone is inside. I will keep the slider windows. But the 100% electric, I would purchase in a second. I just wish they did not put it in that case below the RV leaving only a 6" ground clearance, very tough to self-service and the system itself is way too complicated. Should have been built with LiFePO4 chemistry and a DIY mentality (I have built lithium battery banks and it is easy). If it was built with some simple Battle Born Batteries it would be perfect and it would last a lot longer. But my battery banks do not have that extra dedicated alternator which I do think is very cool. My battery systems that I built have the batteries, solar panels, controller, inverter, and a DC to DC charger, easy for anyone to DIY and fix if needed.
