It actually requires 50"/125cm poles.I really like this tent. At 6'2" the end tie outs are super helpful in increasing head/foot room. I find some sticks or branch and use them. I agree with the zipper-could have been on the other side and I wish it was a rainbow style to allow access to the entire vestibule-like Zpacks Duplex. I don't think that would have increased weight too much. You can also use small sections of shock cord on the bathtub tie out points to attach them to the corner fly stakes-this pulls the tub out which is helpful.

That's correct--the height is lower than the poles because of the dip in the ridgeline between the trekking poles. Thanks, Wolfe!

I am 6'2" with a NEMO Tensor 3" pad would I fit, also will it even fit a 25" NEMO rectangular pad?

@@Xerute probably pushing limits but if the foot and head ends are pulled up and away as I described yes you could fit.

@@Xerute it’s a big change to go to a 1p from 2p. You will have little to no room inside the mesh for your gear. You will have to store it in the vestibule which is fine. Just takes getting used to.

Awesome review Snackbox 👏. As you know I have the dcf version of this tent, which to my knowledge is the exact same except for material. By far the best under 1lb trekking pole tent out there. It is my go to tent. Ridiculously easy to set up and so far bomb proof after using it all year. It has survived wind, rain, and snow. I would replace the stakes and use at least 2 bigger ones of the 6 for the two trekking pole fly tie outs the other 4 for the base of the tent don’t matter as much. I usually replace the tent stakes. My only gripe at this point would be they use very little material for stake loops and are very small. I constantly worry about ripping them off 🤷‍♂️ Outside of that no real complaints. Condensation is always an issue with single wall tents. I had very little problems with condensation outside of camping right next to a steam. I was mostly in the west and Midwest where it not as humid. When I was out east it was early spring. The zipper on the fly is awesome. The packability is also ridiculously small 👍

I am hoping the condensation is minimal on the CT this year. Where are you headed this summer? Any cool trips planned?!

Hey man! Excellent overview of this tent! Seriously love the attention to detail. I've been looking at ultralight 1P tents options (I have a Lanshan 1 Pro and really like it, but I just can't help but want another one...or two... 🤣). My one hesitation on this one is the tapered foot end. I love my 23+ inch wide pads and haven't found a tapered one that I love, which means none of my favorite pads would fit in this tent. What pad are you using in it? Otherwise, I think this is honestly the most feature rich ultralight tent and it is an awesome price. Seriously tons of bells and whistles on this thing!

This tent has me really optimistic, though I was a little surprised at a few things. I use a Sea-to-Summit UL Insulated pad, so it tapers enough at the end to fit (I hope). Have you checked out the Six Moon Designs tents? They have a few that I think are at least this good but also tend to be about 33% less expensive. Thanks again, DoD!

Good overview thanks. Slept in the silnylon version last night in Temps as low as 33F and windy. Honestly cannot see condensation developing here since the entire entrance side is mesh. Furthermore, the fly entrance beak cannot be setup any lower than 10 inches off the ground which means I got cold wind blown at me all night. If anyone has a hack, lmk. I tried to hang my puffy against the mesh door to block the wind, but need some clips. Agree about the low quality stakes (I replaced, supplemented with seatosummit larger ones for the 6 guy outs, using the originals for the 4 bathtub corners). Also don't Ike the door ties, they're not easy to work with. Looking forward to the xmid pro magnetic latch, large interior and hopefully better overall usability.

That all makes great sense to me, Anthony! I am really curious about the balance between ventilation and condensation. I tend to sleep pretty warm, so I am hoping that helps compensate for the issues you point out here. I also agree with you about the door stays. Let me know how the Xmid turns out--I've been curious about it for a long time now!

Diggin those water bottle stickers!! 😆 I have a question Snackbox! On the back wall it appears like it's up very high. You mentioned it's for better ventilation but is it a tighter mesh? How would that hold up in the rain?

I think it's gonna do pretty well overall. The wind would have to blow pretty hard to get under the fly, but I am a little more concerned about how this one will do in heavy wind. It's almost a literal sail, so we will see how it does this year on the CT!

That's a great tent for that trip. I think it will do well in rain and wind so long as you do your best to position the narrow side toward the wind, preferably feet facing the wind. You will likely have the most challenging parts early in the hike where staking it in can be tough, so I'd practice using rocks to tie out corners. Someone also recommended using bigger stakes for the two trekking pole guy lines, but these changes should be cheap and have a BIG payoff. Can't wait to hear more about your PCT hike!

Agree about the door and stakes. I also don’t like the way the doors are connected to the front guyline. Either door should be able to be closed without the other being closed. But that door placement keeps me looking at other tents to replace my One.

I’ve had the One for about 3 years so it’s the slightly longer version which is good because the new version is too short for me. I also have replaced the guyline with slightly bigger cord as the 1.8 mm cord they use started to slip in the linelocs. But it is pretty spacious and sets up easily. This version also has 2 tieout points front and back along the seams for more stability on windy nights. I find using them really solidifies the tent regardless of wind so I use 4 shepherd hook stakes to tighten up the tent. It’s a good tent for the money

I like a basic shepherd's hook, but not the ultralite titanium ones. It has to be able to be hit it with a rock without being bent and pulled out easily when it's time to pack up. Thanks, Patrick! We gotta go camping again soon sometime!

I would think that maybe the placement of the zipper has more to do with structural integrety than saving weight. if you have a zipper on that larger side and open the door you look to be losing like 60-70% of a wall. With a tent held up by trekking poles and guy line tension having more tension on a larger surface means more stability. Or at least it does in my mind.

Hey there, and sorry for the delayed reply. I did use it on the CT and think it's a pretty good tent overall. I do find the condensation to be a bit frustrating, but overall it's a good tent. I took it on the JMT this year, too, and it was decent there, as well. The tent itself is really stable, which I think makes up for the condensation issues I experienced. Did you end up picking one up?

I am really interested in The One but I am not comfortable gambling on 10d silnylon. I would feel a lot better if they used sil coated polyester and heavier denier fabric like SMD does

I can totally understand that, El Arr. I think the Deschutes with the Serenity bug net would be a nice option for you in that case. It would offer you a very comparable tent setup with only a couple extra ounces. Keep me posted on which route you choose!

I use the groundhog stakes from MSR with this tent. I agree that the stakes it comes with are incredibly cheap and annoying. Never had an issue with the groundhogs.

Hey Bike Rob! I picked up four ultralight shepherd hooks for the corners and two MSR groundhog stakes for the two side tie downs. It seems to be the best balance between sturdy staking and light pegs.

@@megaosfan it was really maddening. There’s a video about the entire ordeal from around November. My wife and I realllllyyy wanted to buy hoodies for wedding photos to support the local business, and they said we didn’t get the “right appointment.” We were both really bummed because we did everything right but they changed the policy after our appointment was made but before the appointment itself. When we got there, they had the item behind the counter and refused to let me buy the item because my appointment wasn’t the one I needed for that item. I gave up on them and decided the Etsy hand makers were more up my alley. I wish the folks in Leadville the best, but I also heard from dozens of folks about their bad experiences there when I posted my video.
