I have a "MODERN SPARE" kit in my Model Y trunk space. Keep in mind that rubber products, such as the TIRE and PUCKS are highly toxic and require a very long time ( weeks / months ) to OUTGAS before carrying in your vehicle breathing envelope.

Nice vid Upper but here’s a simple easy piece of advice….be PROACTIVE and not REACTIVE. I’m a former Army Airborne Soldier who recently took delivery of my 2022 Model 3 LR about three weeks ago and love it so far. The military required us to do something called PMCS (Pre-Maintenance Checks and Service) on ALL of our vehicles…by the book. This has stuck with me as a civilian because it just makes sense to inspect your vehicle BEFORE operations. When I jump in my “race ship” I pre-condition it, I walk around it quickly to do a visual, and once I enter the cabin I immediately check and make a mental note of the tire pressure. If one of them are way off, you know there might be an issue which needs to be addressed. Even if you catch a sharp object while driving, your tire isn’t gonna blow out on the spot unless a sniper hits your wheels with a 5.56/.223, a 7.62, or some other high velocity round. The point is that you need to do a visual on your tires and constantly check the pressure for them. On Day One, I placed a plug kit, a small mighty inflator, some pucks and a jack in the trunk’s “stowage” compartment so I’m good to go. I advise you ALL do the same so you don’t look like a douche stranded on the road in a Tesla…..NOT a good look for you or the brand. Drive safe, responsibly, enjoy your “race ship” and don’t be a tool just because you’ve been able to afford and be blessed with a next level performance EV. I grew up poor in Bklyn NY and lived in a homeless shelter for almost two years after my father was killed when I was 11y/o but I made it through the stress and struggles of life and pray that everyone who desires a Tesla can cop one….peace fam!

*None of these efficiency problems are resolved by deleting the spare tire!* I now carry my eSPARE tire in the back of my Model Y, taking up room and adding the weight that Tesla had deleted in order to achieve their grossly unrealistic range numbers.

Why do all these Tesla KZbinrs routinely and robotically cite other car manufacturers that do not provide a spare tire? ….none of the 6 BMW’s I’ve had had spare tires But they ALL had RUN FLATS! We’ve had our Tesla Y performance 3 weeks, picked up a nail and were told we had to buy a new tire …$503. later, I am furious. Run Flats are Safe, and often can be patched ….we drove w a patched run flat for thousands of miles on our big X5. Outrageous that Tesla doesn’t provide run flat tires!

Traditionally when we've had a flat, we pull out the little scissor jack and jack up the car. I tried to do this with one I modified to lift a Tesla. Due to the weight of the car is was almost impossible. You really need a floor jack which is not something we drive around with. If you are out of cell service the tire plug may be your only choice.
@nukem384
@nukem384 2 жыл бұрын
I think nowadays with all these cars that don't have spares, usually calling a tow truck is the easiest way without having to carry a bunch of gear. I think for the most part, assuming you'll be in cell service should be standard. Yeah, a plug will work if it's in the meat of the tire though.

I got the Harbor Freight aluminum $99 jack on sale recently for around $70. 33 lbs. It fits in the storage (model Y) under the back still in the box. Full size tire takes up most of the back area but the piece of mind id worth it to me. I think full size tire,wheel and jack is still under 100 lb. I'm guessing about 75 lbs.

I'm in the process of finding a spare because it's genuinely ridiculous that they don't supply them, doesn't matter what the other brands do. It's not easy to inflate a tyre with a hole in it. I've got plugs and small compressor in my model Y but It's not always doable. I live in a fairly rural area so a spare is a must for me. Got a very nice Tesla wheel off Ebay and Harbor Freights 33LB aluminum jack. The jack fits in the storage area in the back (still in the box). You're right about the full size spare taking most of the back but I drive alone 99% of the time. Guess I'm old school but I want to be able to put a spare on and get going without needed to wait for help. My nearest Service Center is in another state over 100 miles away.

You can. Personally I don't like using that stuff because it just makes a mess within your rim. But since the car doesn't have a full size space and you could be out in the middle of nowhere with no shop close by, that might have to do. Use at your own risk.

On the local beltway near my home, the ONLY cars I typically see at the side of the road are TESLAS! In my city, I cannot find even ONE tire shop that will jack up a Tesla, and my guess is that very few auto repair facilities will touch it. Maybe this is a "conspiracy" of sort, I don't know. But if you are on a road trip and pick up a nail, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN as far as I can tell. Tesla does not prioritize you for immediate repairs at their service centers _< as far as I know... and I don't know because there is NO ONE at Tesla who ever answers a phone call and their service centers are very sparse anyways >._ If you are on a one week road trip and get a flat tire, you can throw your trip into the trash basket unless you are either VERY LUCKY or VERY PREPARED and SELF SUFFICIENT. What a goat rope! ( My local AAA auto repair facility says that they can't lift a Tesla, to which I said: _"Absurd! I can jack it myself in my driveway!"_

There is also an environmental component to this. Rubber is not as abundant as it used to be, so making a tire that will not likely be used, or if it is used, is only used for a few miles (until the real tire is repaired or replaced), is not wise, from an environmental point-of-view.

Ask yourself which is a better solution, changing your tire in 15-20 minutes and being on your way or waiting 1 -4 hours for a tow truck or longer w/o cell services.....get towed to a shop that is closed (after hours)....try using one of those stupid pumps on a tire that is off the rim.... jeez folks these things happen to me.... no worries now that I have bought a jack for both my RAV4 EV and Volt. If you get a flat tire while away from home, you will be out a lot of money. nearly 90% of all US vehicles have a spare, this saves time and money for the owner. Tesla's defualt mode is a huge money trap for buyers. I will never own a Tesla, much like I will never own a super car. Besides, I've had extremely good history with Ford Ranger and F-150's and they come with spare "tires" (full sized).

TESLA ROADSIDE has DISTANCE LIMITATIONS and they will tow you to the nearest Tesla service center which will COST YOU$$$ because they are often so far away. Maybe in the next fkn state, meanwhile you have your family sitting in the car. WHAT TO DO ???

Couldn't they have put one of those small tires and a jack in the frunk space??? I hardly ever remember to use that space because I have no engine to check anymore. How about that spray filler + 12v pump solution that comes with a lot of cars these days? At least on my bike it works...

Just because other automakers don't have a spare is no excuse for tesla not to have them. I don't buy the space and efficiency argument. If it is so sensitive to weight maybe we should drive around naked and have the autopilot stop at least 400 meters from a food shop so the driver gets some exercise to reduce weight

Either this video was made by a shill for Tesla;or someone who actually believes the reasons Tesla decided nit to have a spare or run flat tires. The trunk space and mileage efficiency theory is absolutely insulting to one's intelligence. How dare you put this BS up?
@oakinwol
@oakinwol 2 жыл бұрын
You'd be the same people complaining that teslas range isn't as good as the audi Etron or Mach-e without any reference to the fact that one was designed with a smaller battery and is carrying around 30 pounds of a tire and jack 99% of the time just for the 1% of the time you need it. If you'd be intelligent about it I bet given the option you would actually choose a model 3 you could drive farther without charging and was more efficient daily than the one with the spare tire. And if you wouldn't, 9 out of 10 people would. Half the population is female anyways and most of them aren't looking to jack up cars ever anyways, they always call someone. So yeah you're just thinking in a pretty myopic and selfish way
@oakinwol
@oakinwol 2 жыл бұрын
How dare he? What bs? There's more bs in your statement than there is in this video. Instead of choosing wheels based on efficiency, performance, and cost they should pick run flats for all their cars? Because when you're going to buy a car you check if they either have a spare tire or run flats? No you don't. You don't make purchases decisions that way, but they're supposed to do that and shoot themselves in the foot designing a car not for the 99.9% of cases but because of the .1% of cases that impatient people can't deal with. Even with a ton of entertainment options in the car. Not to mention, as I mentioned above, 50% of drivers are female most of whom will always call someone when they have a flat, not to mention those who are older. You're saying something is bs because they not planning specifically around you and what you prefer even if it's not what most people prefer given the tradeoffs. That's real bs

@@stanlipton5717 you obviously are not so intelligent if you can't see the design constraints for BEVs which would prohibit carrying a spare tire under the car. Maybe better to carry it on roof racks.
