I have the Klös concert, and I adore its bell-like tone. I took it with me to Cheltenham, got it out of a hot car, and it was perfectly in tune. Someone told me off for leaving it in the hot car, and it was great to be able to say "It doesn't matter, it's carbon fibre!"

My claim to fame is I bought the 1st klos baritone in the UK. I was looking for a high end baritone to add to my collection and jumped on this one with trepidation. I was hoping it wasn't thin or tinny sounding and I was pleasantly shocked how full,loud and mellow it is. I'm not embarrassed to say ive fell asleep with mine a few times after late night noodling 😂 I was told later batches had the upgraded ratio tuners as standard and had black tuning buttons. Mine were white which I think don't look as good as black, I swapped 2 out, so I have 2 white and 2 black and looks quite funky. Apparently the Nut was sharp and needed a good set up from Matt and I find the Amp controller sharp on the corner (maybe just mine?) but I love it and it may have just cured my UAS. Another gr8 review Barry, many thanks and so glad u rate it as highly as I do 👍😁

Very impressive instrument. Warm rich tone, not muddy, very guitar-ish I think. It would be a great, "lay-around-the- house, grab-and-play" instrument. Leave it out of the case. I can think of a number of uses for it. I'd love to hear the tenor and concert versions. Sweet.

So I was pining over one of these since December of last year. I was lucky enough to get the Klos Tenor back in March of this year but the Baritone is what I really wanted. Unfortunately they were backordered for quite a while at the time. This past June I managed to snag a Klos Baritone and it has become my everyday main Baritone, even replacing my Flight Aurora that I bought right after seeing your review of it. I still love my Aurora and play it as well, but my Klos Baritone will be with me till the day I die as carbon fiber will last generations. I completely agree with you that the nut width on the Tenor is a bit small for my fat fingers and it takes a great deal of effort to not mute unwanted strings, but the Baritone is an absolute joy to play for hours everyday. I will say though that I wasn't thrilled with the stock strings and replaced them with the Aquilla Lava ones and I am much happier with the sound and action.

I have a tenor from a Kickstarter where they offerd diffrent colored backs about maybe 7 years ago, mine has a dark purple back&sides. Wish mine had that new shape headstock though. Cool instrument! I think mine was less than half of that cost but a tenor is smaller and of course years have passed since then and mine is the wooden neck varity (with carbon fiber rods in it though).

I have two carbon fiber Lava U ukuleles, a tenor and a concert. I really like them both; tone action, looks…it’s all good. I’d love to add a Klos to the collection but the price is too much of a reach for someone of my modest skills. I love that they are out there.

Those Lava are NOT carbon fiber - they just call it that, but it's not
@timakey4678
@timakey4678 2 ай бұрын
@@GotAUkulele I know. In 50 years of being an aviation mechanic I know carbon fiber. To me the Lava are close enough to true composite for the price point that I'm not offended by their claim. They are not just cheap plastic nor are they wood. They are certainly tougher than wood (I live on a boat for several months out of the year, bad environment that is hard on my wooden Ukes). I like the action and the tone of the Lavas. I would certainly like to have a Klos but the price point is simply absurd. Carbon fiber isn't cheap but it isn't that expensive. It is built up in a mold so there is less physical labor than is needed for wooden instruments. Lots of things is this world, maybe most, are not what is claimed. I own several well known brands of Ukes in all sizes, 10 in total. Only one of them is a cheap plastic one. It was gifted to me by my grandkids and was what got me started. I still play it and it holds the place of honor on my wall when I am back living in the apartment. If I sold all of them for what I paid, I would still be far short of affording the Klos; and I would have only one Ukulele to play. But I appreciate your comment as you are correct. The Lavas are not "real" carbon fiber. You would also be correct if you said, "The Klos is ridiculously expensive."
@GotAUkulele
@GotAUkulele 2 ай бұрын
@@timakey4678 Sorry - for me they are NOT 'close enough' either. I know people who have dropped them (and also dropped the Enya Nova ukes - same material). They chip, crack and shatter. I have nothing against plastic ukes at all and play several, but the brands using the term 'carbon' when there is no carbon matting in the body are doing so to create the impression the instrument is something it is not. And if we are talking 'expensive' - the Lava is about three times the price of the Enya Nova, but is essentially the same thing. The Lava is famously over priced!

Thanks for calling out those companies who pass off their composite on people who don’t know better as being carbon fiber. Bi directional CF is NOT the same as some ground up powdered CF material mixed into a plastic resin - the latter actually is easier to break and even shatters easier than most wood and with little effort (and no way to repair it). Btw, you can get any pickup you want installed by KLOS. It will cost extra, but they’ll install anything you want. If you want an LR Baggs, they’ll happily to do it - either you give them the money to buy it and pay an added install fee, OR you can mail one you provide and just add the install fee. You can also get a side sound port and other things done if you so choose. lol, I’m glad you remember those original videos with the trucks, submerging into pools, using them as bats, etc. Also, KLOS makes and gets all their parts in China - that’s how they keep the price down for a fully CF instrument as compared to other companies. They just get put together and setup to the customers’ requests in Utah. Read their old Kickstarter pages where this all gets explained - or ask them more about that. But still, it’s the more affordable fully CF instrument, and it doesn’t matter where the parts get made - I have had one of their original full sized hybrid guitars with a wood neck since they shipped 2018 (was gotten for me as a special gift from their 2017 Kickstarter) and have had an amazing experience with the instrument. Plus, they have amazing customer service and after-sales support (shoutout to Nico!) when needed. They are amazing as a team, as are the instruments - world class high quality.

The Frets are a High-Quality Copper Nickel material, so that the softer strings last a long time. Our steel string instruments have stainless steel frets. Both fret options last a very very long time, but we could re-fret them if ever deemed necessary!
