Hi Jasper, I am the rider who crashed at the foot of the Columbiere on the first day breaking 5 ribs and fracturing 6 others! I've been waiting to see this upload and look forward to watching the series. Rehab has been slow but I've been back on the bike since December and am gradually feeling better. Hey Jasper, I know that you mentioned that you struggled a bit recently and put a lot of pressure on yourself when it comes to your video output and also the entire haute route project I just wanna say: take a breath. you're doing an incredible job as a dad, pilot, bike racer, editor, etc, etc - and your content is always on point and especially the Haute Route stuff is top class entertainment and a huge inspiration for me personally - both the athletic and also the creative part of it! Although the fitness setbacks and hard to handle mentally, you're doing amazing man

That fine line between total fitness and falling off a cliff is so true. In 2022 I got Covid in August, at the time I was clocking in on Strava at 97, 98 Fitness and totally fell off that said cliff because of weeks of eye infections Post-Covid. It can really destroy confidence and hinder you mentally.

Awesome video and commentary. That race looks brutal. Ive also climbed the Col de la Colombière in summer and it just cooks you all the way to the top, there is no wind and you can see the top for sooo long! it doesn't look like its ever getting closer. Doing the pre-ride of the HR Alps 2023 with you was a real highlight of this event for me. All week long, I was always mid-pack or OTB more than once, so seeing your vantage point from the front is spectacular. Great video, it really captures these monster mountains and incredible villages and landscapes. Watching this now, it's hard to believe i actually rode this course due to the unforgiving HC climbs and scorching temperatures. Thanks again for producing these videos ⛽😁🍾🏆👑🚴‍♂️

❤ accepting the uncertainty of illness for fitness is hard and can easily turn into anxiety . I have it but as a Dad to not being able to take care of my family . Excellent video, entertaining stuff! Having done the HR, the big issue I have with it is all the neutralised descents. I know they are concerned about safety, but people skydive, scuba dive, race cars, climb mountains, etc. It's all dangerous. You go into it knowing that. You sign disclaimers. Cycling is about going up AND down. HR tries to recreate the Tour de France feel, but this fails if descents are taken out. It just becomes a series of timed hill climbs. This is the one thing that puts me off doing another one.
