Remember that Rhaenys is Rhaenyra’s cousin, and a Targaryen herself. I don’t think she is trying to be mean to Rhae, I think she is trying to warn her and to find a way to protect her.

@@lizsison9427 Rhaenys and Viserys are cousins, therefore Rhaenys and Rhaenyra are cousins. To be her aunt she'd have to be either Aemma or Viserys' sister. Rhaenys was the daughter of the old king's older son, Viserys was the son of his younger son (Rhaenys had the stronger claim being the child of the elder son, but you know, woman vs a man so they picked Viserys over her).

I think the Valeryans, knowing that Otto was pushing the King to wed so quickly after the passing of the Queen, maybe even knowing how the King gives in easily to Otto, were trying to give him the best option. Their daughter is the best option for the Targaryen and Valeryans blood line. I think they would have waited to offer this, if no pressure was being put on the King by the likes of Otto

I have to disagree. They wanted help with the crab feeder so if Viserys married their daughter he'd be all but obligated to give it. That's a time presser in itself for them, so no I don't think they would have waited. I think they just had the same idea as hightower.

The king had a third option, he could have told them all to f off, that he will marry much much later and to forbid the conversation all together. That would have prudent.

Well a Targaryen civil war did happen less than 100 years ago, and the stability of the realm was in danger. If Rhaenyra died, Daemon would be heir again, and no matter how cool he is, he would make a terrible king. If Daemon died, the throne would go back to Rhaenys, which isn't bad, but overall the stability of the realm was in danger. Not saying I agree with the choice, but there were important reasons why he was being pushed towards a second marriage

I think whats most interesting is how little that people see that Otto WANTED a war between Viserys & Daemon. He knew if Viserys came Daemon & him would reconcile, or at least come to an agreement, & as Alicent kinda points out, he doesn’t even consider that Rhaenyra would show. Otto went to Dragonstone with a small force against Daemon WITH A DRAGON. He knew the odds. When Rhaenyra shows up to solve the problem (not to even the odds), he’s disappointed because he couldn’t create a larger division between Viserys & Daemon, AND he realizes that Rhaenyra isn’t pliable. Not to mention, I think Rhaenyra would always seek to mend any rift between the brothers.

@@samherrera743 Well, first of all, that’s under the assumption that Daemon would kill Otto even after surrender-which while I’m sure he would want to, I believe it goes against Westerosi’s honor customs(?) and thus would ultimately make Daemon’s reputation more unstable. AND would anger Viserys, likely into open war. Daemon is smart enough to recognize he loses in that situation. Again, Otto’s plan hinges on him surrendering in that moment- he knows Daemon is going to threaten him (likely with a dragon) and he knows he stands no chance. BUT coming back to Viserys with the news that Daemon was hostile and uncooperative would make Viserys angry and incite a feud between them, ultimately WEAKENING THE HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. Apologies if I’m not explaining it very well, I’m not great at wording my thoughts lol. Most important note is Otto be scheming, Rhaenyra be unraveling his plans left & right🤷‍♀️

You know if they really wanted to the Velaryons could have taken the throne, if they wed Daemon to Laena early and decided to make him king no one could have stopped them, The Velaryons would have three dragon riders with Daemon, Rhaenys and Laenor who have all experienced battle against a 16 year old girl. It would be over pretty quick.

Queen Aemma's mother was younger than her stepdaughter. Her mother was Princess Daella and I believe she married when she was fifteen. And died from the pregnancy in part to her youth

The scene between King Viserys and the very young Laena Velaryon was actually my favorite in this episode - the two actors were so very good playing off each other, despite the awkwardness of the situation. Thankfully, Viserys showed his essential decency in absolutely rejecting the idea of marrying a little girl, however politically astute the marriage to her would be. I don't think Viserys ever loved Alicent; he just became fond of her, and was comfortable with her and felt that if he were married to her, he would not be pushed towards more marriages, especially with little girls (not that Alicent was much older; but she was at least 16 or so, and physically mature). In the Game of Thrones books, Sansa Stark was married to Tyrion at 12 and expected (by Tywin) to get pregnant - which was not the usual attitude in the culture, since there was some awareness that very young girls having pregnancies decreased the odds for the survival of mothers and children. @@cinnamonskinner8693 They never specified on the show, but the character definitely looked like a physically mature 14 or a 'ripe' 15 to 16-year-old; the physical differences between her and Laena Velaryon were definite; Viserys did not want to have sex with/marry a little girl who could die of a pregnancy or (again) childbirth, if he had to marry again, it would be to a young and healthy woman entering her prime in terms of childbearing years; and in Westeros, 14 or 15 -year-old girls were considered 'ripe' for marriage, unfortunately, by ambitious fathers.

Yeah she gets to choose but the others who didn't speak traveled hundreds of miles away to speak for a position, regardless if they get it or not. They had a right to speak.
