Perhaps they see you as a f**k buddy due to a vibe you may be giving off (bad boy etc, no disrespect), or maybe if you're really good looking they also tend to see guys like that as short-term material

When she told me she’d changed her mind about wanting me in her life, but, it wasn’t in the way I thought, I didn’t respond, taking this to mean she was trying to friend-zone me. Almost a month later she reached out again, but, didn’t say anything significant so I didn’t respond again. The strongest negotiating position is being able to walk away and mean it.

Three times in the past with three different exes this has backfired for me. You play your hand by replying to bread-crumbs. She knows exactly where she stands with you, that’s the problem. She’s no longer unsure or uncertain about whether you still like her or not - women are more attracted to men who’s feelings are unclear. She now knows, feels assured and relieved she still has you as a back-up option if needed, which further enables her to continue looking for your replacement. By waiting until she says something significant you weed out her feeler / bread-crumb texts and are vetting for whether she has genuine desire for you. This is what you want. A woman who wants to be with you. A woman who will make the effort. Point being, she will reach out again if her interest is high enough and if she doesn’t, you’ve got your answer anyway, so it’s win, win. Think of it like this. When she dumped you, that didn’t stop you from wanting her back did it? After all, rejection breeds obsession. She has to feel your loss and you rejecting her before she can respect you and thus feel attraction for you again. Women hate being ignored. They are so used to attention in today’s attention economy. The thirst is real. I’ve had one woman turn up outside my house because I’d (unknowingly) ignored her - all notifications were switched off on the app she was contacting me on and she’d lost my number.

I've been seeing things that way later in life after a woman is past her prime and not able to find another guy they deeply regret "friendzoning" the man who was interested in her back in her 20s and 30s. I actually think it comes across pathetic and weak to say: “No, i won’t be friends with you” “I’m only interested in dating” This is not “James Bond” like behavior. The stronger position to take would be to smile, agree to be friends and then just go date other women and disappear, never initiating a call or text to her ever again. If she reaches out and invites you somewhere (like a group gathering with friends), tell her that you have a date that night with another girl but you will catch up with her some other time. If there is any interest on her part, she will start to pursue once you have disappeared and see’s that you’re dating other women. This is probably the only area i disagree with Corey. I think it comes across stronger. Besides, if you’re dating other hot women, does it even matter if she only ends up being your friend? Seriously, who cares.

Meh. Telling her you "have a date that night" comes across just as desperate if not moreso. Seems like you're trying to impress her or validate yourself or something. I think the actual play is to decline friendship with a smile. Stay positive and playful, tell her you think she's cute and would like to go out, but you understand she just wants to be friends. Tell her you aren't interested in friendship, wish her well, and tell her to contact you if she changes her mind. All with confidence and a smile. Then let her decide what she wants. If she gets in contact, ask her out. If not, then oh well. If she trys to play games, politely refuse. But don't get upset.
