Lots of good times by all. Many lessons learned opportunities. Dedicated snow make a big difference. But are not always practical for a weekend get away. Also might consider a tire with less width and more height. Snow chains would be the best option in this particular situation. But I understand that this was just a day trip kind of thing. One other area for consideration, I always recommend using a snatch box whenever possible. It really does reduce the strain on the winch, (less heat build up, and easier on the battery and alternator) and gives you added strength with more of the rope off the winch drum. And it allows you to change the angle of the pull to get unstuck easier. All of the equipment combined adds up to some serious amount of money, so I advocate for techniques that can help prolong the life of it. Really a fun video. You said early in the video you were hoping for some snow. You certainly got your wish. Good to see family and friends having some fun and making memories. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

@Casey2503 жыл бұрын
Id be wondering if your alternator and battery are ok. I don't have good luck with cheap or oem batteries. A good agm battery with high amps might help you out. 2 years of offroading a battery can deplete its capacity. I bought a cheap battery from costco once because i needed in asap and killed it in 2 runs off road. My Northstar agm in the JK has held up for 2 years of abuse but my previous agm lasted only 3. I plan to put a northstar agm in the JL at some point.

What happens if all three vehicles in the convoy end up getting snowed in on a mountain road, dozens of kilometers away from help? Serious question, how do you prepare for that unlikely but very possible scenario? A winch cable breaks, or you're stuck with snow piling up from a storm that suddenly got far worse than it was supposed to?
@Casey2503 жыл бұрын
Depends where we are. We arent that far from main roads here and this is very accessible if we need to call in help. I keep a Spot Sattelite communicator in my Jeep if we need help and are off the grid. Usually only one vehicle is pushing new ground and the others can recover. Synthetic winch line can be repaired and I carry a spare line. If we were further away from civilization id take less risks or bring more rigs. Play within your skill sets and knowledge of terrain and situations and learn how to use all the recovery equipment available and bring it! Always keep food and blankets and other essentials in your rig and always be ready to spend a night in the bush.
@W2IRT3 жыл бұрын
@@Casey250 All excellent tips. Not knowing the area personally it's hard for a viewer to know how far away from blacktop you are. Could this perhaps be a an idea for a future video--how to plan for a worst-case scenario on a wheeling trip into the middle of nowhere, BC style? Obviously you and your crew are well seasoned and your rigs are extremely well equipped but I'm thinking more for the less-savvy people or those with stock Jeeps who end up over their heads because they don't understand the risks.
