In my opinion, the biggest mistake the show producers make is kill off Ser Barristan. He's like literally the most shitwrecking badass in the world in the book, even though advanced in age. And I love how he is portrayed. The face, the voice, the attitude, everything is perfect. As Kevin says, he really is Obi Wan Kenobi-ish.

They didn't know how to write his character arc so they axed him, same with Baelish & Varys. They axed tons of characters they didn't know how to write right after the source material ended... Jon, Dany, Tyrion, Cersei, Jaime, all the Stark pups, etc.

I always thought Ser Barristan was a bit of a coward for not siding with Eddard Stark when Cercei clearly usurped the throne by ignoring Robert's final decree. If Barristan had sided with Stark that day then we could've potentially had a different outcome to the whole story, provided the other Kingsguard followed him.
@LeiRaion5 жыл бұрын
You are both being a bit ignorant here... when Barristan didn't side with Ned it wasn't because he was a coward... he did it because his only fault was being too loyal. He refused to break his vow under any circumstances. He was bound to the king and he took his vows VERY seriously.
@petesthename15885 жыл бұрын
He had already vowed to Joffrey so he had to uphold his vow The situation would have changed if littlefinger didn’t set Ned up or Janos dodnt betray Ned. Bariston likely wouldn’t have been killed by neds orders and if all went to plan Ned would become king, likely handing the throne to stannis after Joffrey was killed
@OhmeinGottVIIC4 жыл бұрын
@@petesthename1588 Since the vow to Joffrey was illegal he indeed broke the vow he gave to Robert. If the former king declared wishes regarding his successor, it doesn't matter what the heir says to that. Barristan had to follow Robert's last order in that matter, but he was afraid to do it.

This is the first sign of the lazy writing we get later in s7 and 8. In the books, he survived the fight with the harpies. This is the man who won 100v1 battles against him. When he told the kingsguard he could carve them like a cake, it was no joke. He could have killed everybody in that room and walk away unharmed.

To be fair, as a king's guard he was probably used to fighting encased in armor. Without it, you are more vulnerable. But yes, it's a shame that they killed him off considering that he is alive in the books.

That’s how a man like that should go down ... fighting for what he believes in, for who he believes in. He didn’t have to like it, but I bet he entered his house justified.

Barristan's death in the show was a total waste. He should have died leading the rookie knights he's raised to be Dany's Queensguard against Cersei's brutal Queensguard, led by the Mountain. Maybe he takes on the Mountain himself, gets close to killing the bastard, but is overpowered as his age kicks in. Or maybe Barristan is there at the final battle against the White Walkers, and both he and Jorah die defending Dany from the dead.

Janos grabbing his sword as if he would actually jump in if Barristan decided to carve himself multiple cakes.

Another mistake Dumb and Dumber made regarding the show. Did they not learn from Joffrey that he shouldn't have banished Selmy from his king's guard

the show is shite compared to the books. Barristan still lives. they mixed the show up too much.

He's not dead - they didn't put coins on his eyes - I reckon they're pretending he's passed on so they can have him in the future x plus he's not dead in the books

I just don't like how he said "he burnt sons in front of their fathers & burnt men with wildfire" instead of using their names as Brendon Stark & his father

It's a damn shame. We could have really used him this season. Also, he would have lost his shit over Jon. Regardless of whether he knew the truth or not. Hell...he might have even realized before anyone said a word.

She'd have took kings landing episode 1 of season 7 if Barristan was still alive. She went from having the greatest ever knight and military genius, as well as Jorah an ex knight, a war veteran who had a great mind for strategy and politics in Westeros. To having brean dead (post season 4) Tyrion and treacherous Varys. They cost her everything. As well as Jon Snow.
