I jumped off my damn sofa when Jon swung his sword down and beheaded him. When he pleads for Mercy and Jon hesitates for a moment, I thought for a second that D&D were honestly gonna try to save this prick and keep him around, but then soon after the camera pan's to Jon, with his face scowling in utter disgust of this man's shame and cowardice, and he drops the metaphorical hammer on his ass. All was right in the world, at least for this one brief moment.

I don't think Jon was hesitating whether to kill him or not, he already made up his mind. It's a courtesy that you hear out a dying man's last words before he is executed. Granted Slynt was not deserving of that courtesy really but that's the norm.

I actually wonder how he came about being commander of the city watch. We never see him fight/duel. He’s always surrounded by his Guards. When the wall was under attack we don’t see him swing a single sword. How the hell did he get to the position he was in. I guess GOT is a great representation of the reality of our present society showing incapable people sitting in positions of powers.

There is some small element of pity that can be felt for Slynt, in that many of his more deplorable actions came about because he was forced into it, and he was too much of a coward to stand up for what's right. However, that small pity is easily washed away when you realize that he feels no regret for what he did, and he never even tried to find a third way out, like Varys often did in order to carry out the LETTER of the orders given to him, while still keeping the SPIRIT of what's right intact. Worst part to consider is that even if his life hadn't been at stake for what he did, he still probably would've done it anyway. Fuck him, he got off light considering.

He killed babies without remorse and grew impatient with his men when they struggled to stomach doing such an awful deed. He went out of his way to make Jon’s life miserable, and betrayed the entire realm by killing Ned Starks men and arresting him after taking a bribe from Cersei so Joffrey could take power. Janos deserves a hefty chunk of blame for the war starting in the first place because he was a key piece in what set the pieces into motion.

Slynt and Sam are two sides of the same coin. Both are afraid, both aren’t particularly good at fighting, both are mocked. But wher Slynt lashed out like a child and then hides in a corner when scared. Sam overcomes his short comings. In fact he embraces them and conquers them. There’s a Slynt in all of us but all of us can become a Sam.

@Sean12248
@Sean12248 11 ай бұрын
Probably because Ser Alison Thorne was important. He was a knight during the Rebellion for the Targaryans. Somehow he was able to become important at The Wall. Since Thorne was left at Castle Black while the rest of the brothers were away in the North he would be the highest ranking member at Castle Black. So when Slynt arrived he got promoted because he was the leader of the Gold Cloaks. He wasn't good at his job but Throne only saw someone who was once the leader of the Gold Cloaks now at Castle Black. A person given charge of the Gold Cloaks must be good at his job.

Janos was humbled at the end. I feel that such a man that tries to redemption himself by confessing his sins at the end should be given a chance. It might have been the fear of death that made him repent, but still. It was genuine, he confessed being weak and afraid. He stripped himself bare, he would have been gratefull and more humble afterwards.
@dgray3771

He instantly became utterly useless, no man at the wall would trust him. And his character is that of someone who plots behind peoples backs. You don't want him in charge of anything or even lurking around. Even cleaning the privy would be too much. And since he already committed the crime. Refusing orders of the Lord commander is death. He knew, everyone knew. Also Jon would lose all respect if he backed down now. It was really the end for Janos.

Dominic Carter. Thankless role. Hated Janos Slynt because he was so well portrayed by Dominic Carter. Have re-watched this confrontation and aftermath several times on several channels, and today, decided I needed to acknowledge the actor who played such a memorable bully. "I've always been afraid!" is the dirty secret all bullies try to hide, including Lucifer who became our enemy. Because they're infected with fear, bullies become fear-mongers, striving to spread their misery and capitalize on it. I wish children could see this portrayal, but G. O. T. ain't for children. Hopefully, many adults who have been intimidated by "grown-up bullies" will consider this depiction. Do bullies have power? Yes, often they do? Can bullies inflict pain? Sure, many have bark and bite. Can bullies kill? Yes. Does knowing that fear-mongering bullies are themselves controlled by fear help a person being persecuted by a bully? I don't know, but it helps me. What goes around comes around. Thanks, Kevin, for this offering. Thanks, Dominic Carter, for Janos Slynt, and for exposing the dirty, little secret....

Brave enough to storm a brothel, full of unarmed whores and lonely men, unarmed, unprepared, and unable to defend themselves.... "Gang of Thieves, thats all this is"... yeah, untill they breached the gates of Castle Black, and stormed the Wall... Janos Slynt went down to cower with the women and children, in a puddle of his own making... Tyrion was right about not 'questioning his honor' but denying its existance. He shuold have taken Jon's offer and ride for Greyguard. A far distance place, almost forgotten. The Wights breached the Wall at Eastwatch, fár from Greyguard. He might have survived at Greyguard. Live out his life as a Fort-commander at the Wall, instead he chose madness, madnesss and stupidity.

Yup, if you get send into the tunnels to fight off a Giant, you go. Probably most of you would not survive, and they knew. But still went. Janos would in dire situations turn and run. At that point you find out, this man is a liability. A danger to the watch. So he got dispatched. 1 less mouth to feed.

When he betrayed Ned I would've been happy to see his head roll. But this show definitely shows the vulnerable side of character s we think of as villains. When he confessed his fear I actually felt bad for him and kinda hoped Jon would just send him away.

Understood. You must be young and idealistic. I felt the same way, many times, over the years; not anymore. Some time ago I awakened to reality, but I rejected it as misplaced grievance. I was wrong. I now know that we live in an unjust world that perpetuates itself through obfuscation, misdeed, endless deception, and rationalization..

Considering the atrocities he committed there really was no coming back from it, he made his bed and his head had to lie in it.

Also he is already in the Night's Watch which is consider basically the ultimate universal second chance in Westeros. You can literally commit any crime in Westeros and if arrested by actual authorities (assuming you aren't in the middle of battle where everyone is being slaughtered) you can just ask to be sent to the Night's Watch and basically almost every authority figure would oblige. If you f up in the Night's Watch there is no more mercy or second chance because you are already at the end of the line in terms of grace.
