I, too, bought my O'Nino from Mimukes. Mim set it up beautifully. I'm a beginner and love the tuners. I took it on a girls trip to Hawaii and it was so easy to travel with. Thank you for recommendation of the Eb tuning (going to try it out today).

Barry, Nice review, thanks. It would not be difficult to modify the headstock on this ukulele. Trimming the sides and top, along with replacing the geared tuners for friction would make a world of difference in the look. This sounds drastic, but it really isn't that hard to do. The Ohana logo would be gone. The edges could be stained a contrasting colour. I have done things like this to other instruments, and I am not a luthier. Regards, Chris

Got my O'nino from Mimsukes and was blown away. I bought it for the novelty but the setup and playability were flawless. I prefer Soprano size (my main is a Martin 3) so there is no problem with playing and it actually sounds great! I have played it in a group of other Ukulele players and have no problem keeping up, even volume is adequate.

I really want to get this from Mim! If anyone is reading these comments now, six years after this video was posted, I would like to know if it's dumb to put strap buttons on such a tiny thing. I absolutely cannot change chords without the neck dropping. A strap is imperative for me, but would there even be space for Mim to drill at the neck without the wood cracking? Too embarrassed to ask Mim directly. She might not want to sell to me for such a dumb request for a strap, LOL.
@matthewb99559 ай бұрын
Mim offers this option right on the order page at the bottom. It’s called “add two buttons”.
@e.castlerock84549 ай бұрын
@@matthewb9955 - Yes, thank you. I just received my ukulele today. I got the O'Nina. Mim was able to put the second button on the neck. It's so tiny, though, that it hangs weirdly. Better when I tie the strap near the tuners. The uke sounds amazing, and I can actually play a G chord for the first time; yet there's still room for me to lay down three fingers for a D. I think I finally found my ukulele.

I have a stupid question changing tuning you have to play different shape for chords or do you use the same of standard one? Thank you ciao from Italy
@GotAUkulele4 жыл бұрын
Not quite sure what you are asking. If you change tuning to something relative (same intervals) the shapes stay the same but they need transposing up or down. This might help? www.gotaukulele.com/2016/09/dont-be-afraid-of-alternative-ukulele.html

Hello, great review, but - isn´t it the sopranissimo from ohana ukes (not the sopranino) - with Kind regards from Germany
@GotAUkulele8 жыл бұрын
It's the O'Nino. I think beyond that, the ukulele doesn't have a name below soprano other than what has been created. As I say in the written review - call it a sub-soprano, call it a sopranino, call it a sopranisimmo - all the same thing. The fact they called this the 'O'Nino' suggests to me that Ohana prefer the 'Sopranino' tag.
@4Motion548 жыл бұрын
Hello, from Ohana the O'Nino is currently the smallest Ukulele - It could be right if you mention that Ohana prefer the "sopranino Tag" because of the Name "O´Nino". Had a look on the Website of Ohana: there it is called O´Nino Mahagony Sopranissimo, the SK-21 is called Sopranino. I would be very interested in the difference between the two Ukes. For the O'Nino Sopranissimo the scale length is 11 in., the total Length 17 in. and the Body Height: 7 in. For the SK-21 I can not find informations about these items. With Kind regards.
@GotAUkulele8 жыл бұрын
Does it really matter what it's called?

Really like this one. If I didn't own an SK-21 already I'd be tempted. You're spot on about those geared tuners though...
@GotAUkulele7 жыл бұрын
It's odd isn't it. Buyers have been so put off by friction pegs because people just endlessly trot out the myth that they are 'bad', but there are some really good ones. It's like throwing the baby out with the bathwater! I like this uke, but I don't think I would actually buy it for that reason alone.
@winklesbloke7 жыл бұрын
The friction tuners on my 2 Ohana sopranos are really good too. Perhaps they're a little awkward for beginners to use, but then a tiny uke like this isn't really the ideal uke for a beginner anyway.
@ribblevalleystrummers8038 жыл бұрын
I really like Ohana ukes, I have a PK-25G, but I would think a solid top is wasted on a such a small uke, I cant see it ever opening up like a bigger bodied uke, but probably sound good in A,D,F#,B but would it take that tuning for a long haul
@GotAUkulele8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I like Ohana too - never really played a bad one. I think though there is an awful lot of conjecture and subjective talk about woods 'opening up'. Much talk about it, but in nearly 40 years of playing strings, I've never yet seen anyone definitively prove it. For me - buy a ukulele based on how it sounds NOW, not how you hope it will sound in the future. As such, whether solid, or laminate, I don't think it's ever a 'waste'. For me, it either sounds good or it doesn't. Before the video I had it in D tuning, but didn't think it sounded as good to be honest. I think it may sound even snappier in F tuning.
