Super easy test for a common P0446 on GM trucks and SUVs

The P0446 trouble code is vent solenoid-related EVAP code...but it's rarely actually the vent causing the issue. Check out a quick test you can do to verify the fuel tank pressure sensor

I'm not a mechanic but I f ind the diagnostics side of things very interesting and your videos are great to watch. I'm learning quite a bit, I think. I recently bought a used car and within a week the engine light came on. We had the car diagnostics done and It was I think a PO441 fault on the EVAP system. Luckily the car was bought from a main dealer and it's been sorted under the warranty that came with the car. That is how I came to find your channel and now I've found myself watching more and more. Thanks for the great tutorials, would you recommend a general member of the public owning a code reader or should it really be left to the technicians always. If it's a good idea what would you recommend, I wouldn't want a full works one due to cost but would pay a little more than basic for a better recommended one.

I found same problem when putting gas in. Would not take it. Disconnect hose for a emergency untill part came in.

Mine was different the charcoal canister deteriorated and clogged the vent tube full of charcoal rocks.

If you own a pickup truck, you can replace your own fuel tank pressure sensor by just reaching above, and replace!! No need to remove the fuel tank!!!

I've replaced the gas cap, fps, the purge valve and the vent solenoid and still getting the p0446 code

Nice video, suggest you speak a bit slower. Did you proof test the problem sensor before installing a new one? If it turns out the sensor was not the problem, who pays for the non returnable sensor?

I have an 08 Silverado, i just hooked up my scan tool, and it showed this P0446 code. So after watching your video, im doing live data, (before start up "fuel tank pressure" was -2.16) While running it's climbing but currently at -4.78 and the check engine light went away. Is it possible the pressure sensor just resolved the issue, or should I just plan on replacing it in the near future?

But how do you know your filler neck isn't fully of spiders? Think about it

@@8Jallin I sold that scanner. I used a launch scanner and found it instantly. Fuel pressure sensor ended up being the problem. Changed that out, and no issues
