Netero last line to Meruem about humanity infinite potential for evolution in the manga has a double meaning, not just evolution but also "malice/evil", the most accurate translation would be "humanity infinite potential for evolution when it comes to being evil" and in fact his last resource is a bomb which is low budget and easy to mass produce. The ants never stood a chance against humanity because they could only think about the individual potential of ants and humans, but the greatest threat when dealing with humans is not our combat skill, but the weapons we can create to kill each other and any external threat. Meruem was defeated by one of the most evil creation of humans, designed to kill other humans.

@@pejman3 Indeed correct. Rewatch the fight. Every time we see Netero attack, he prays with both hands, but then moves only his Right to do the attack itself. The only time we see him use his left, was against Pitou in the very beginning to 'send her away' with a beam attack. Where as with his Right hand, all we see are actual physical attacks, smacks, punishes, and thrusts. Throughout the entire fight with the king, he only used his Right hand that we could see. The same with his legs, if you pay attention again, when he moved and jumps, it's always with his left leg, his right usually bent and not being used. That is his bias, to not use them often as a handicap. As he says in the beginning of the fight, "When was it? When did I start waiting for my opponent to attack first?" He was the strongest, so subconsiously had to handicap himself to become weaker, to enjoy the fights and not kill his opponents. And that Bias, ultimately, is what killed him.

i love this fight and Netero's death, he went out like he wanted to, as a warrior on the battlefield, even tho he was fighting was a cause that he wasn't even sure was just (more like he was almost sure it wasn't). This is the peak of the shonen genre right here.

HxH usually makes slight pauses in the action before coming back with full force to make the reveal more dramatic, so people would feel safe for a brief moment, and then hit them with a bang. He's pausing right when he feels is safe because things slow down, but that is exactly right before things go big a moment later.

Netero is the most amazing “old powerful dude” of all mangas. The translation sucks, btw. The King was starting to feel pain, not just “a bit of pain”. Every other Hunter would just die before even moving. It was really hurting him. Anyway, Netero did what must be done, ready to sacrifice anyone of the King hasn’t moved. Also, I see the King as the protagonist in this arc, and Gon as a secundary character.

​@johnhalo8726 I think comparing even restored Meruem to the Five Great Calamities from the Dark Continent, a B classification is fair. Some of the Calamities have the potential to easily end all of humanity if they made it to the mainland. These are things that casually wiped out entire armies, including Nen users, purposfully or otherwise. The Hunter Association only sent a handful of Nen users to deal with the Ants, and the surrounding nations could have just turned the whole captured region into glass if they felt truly threatened.
