I think it was terminal hindsight. Happens to people on the anti-social spectrum. They don't necessarily feel "bad" about their actions but they feel this sense of failure when they look back on the destruction vs what little financial or social gain they really achieved. like say if you go around shooting people for their wallets. you could go uncaught for 20 years and you probably wouldn't profit enough to stop. whats worse is you can't go to night school or something cause you're a killer. you wouldn't need empathy to be utterly destroyed by your actions

Bruce seeing and valuing the humanity in his rogues gallery is forever and always the very best reason for Batman to have his no kill rule. It’s much more coherent and satisfying than “Killing makes you just another criminal.”
@kingbeauregard7 ай бұрын
There was a time even children understood why Batman doesn't kill. These days, adult act like it's a big complex mystery. There are two central reasons why Batman doesn't kill: 1) Killing is wrong. 2) Batman's job is to bring criminals in so they can have their day in court, not to decide their fate himself. Now we can talk about trolley problems with regard to #1, but when you factor #2 into it as well, there is no good reason for Batman to kill.
@kingbeauregard5 ай бұрын
I can think of another reason why Batman shouldn't kill. We know that there are any number of killers in Gotham, from low-level punks to Killer Croc. But that's okay-ish because Batman is the toughest guy in Gotham and he can stop them all. But, what happens when the toughest guy in Gotham IS a killer?

it's like Smallville, basically it shows said hero growing into the one you know from books. It's different because they put the character into situations their older versions were in in the books for some reason, probably to make it more interesting. So in Smallville you get to see Clark growing up into Superman and you'll also see future heroes and villains rise from basically nothing, and same goes for Gotham. So just like Smallville started when Clark went to high school and ended when Superman showed up in Metropolis, Gotham starts in Crime Alley and ends when Batman comes to Gotham.

Matches Malone was one of Batman’s secret identities in order to infiltrate criminal organisations. In Batman the brave and the bold the man that killed Batman’s parents was called joe chill.
@Afalstein2 жыл бұрын
Joe Chill was the name of the man in the original comic. In most incarnations--Nolan, Bruce Timm--that's the name of the gunman. Interesting twist here, to suggest that Batman took the name of his parents killer. Although I have to say I'm skeptical, just looking at this scene. Malone doesn't seem to remember Thomas and Martha Wayne, two of the most famous people in Gotham. He gives details about the scene only when Bruce provides something to work with, and he refuses to give any other info. I honestly think he's faking it to get Bruce to shoot him.
@VRIceblast3 жыл бұрын
I wonder how many people died, because of Batman's code of not killing. Killing a killer doesn't make you a murderer, it's Justice. You are very likely saving lives, or at least avenging them. A Murderer is someone who kills for evil reasons. How many times does a criminal have to get out of jail and kill again, before he's put down..... Batman busts the same criminals over and over again. If he would have just ended them, then his job would be so much easier. Instead, Gotham will never get better.
@Afalstein2 жыл бұрын
Let's take this in another direction, though. A violent Batman, who kills criminals, would inspire more vigilantes, killing whoever they thought deserved it--and in the process killing a great many who did not. Criminals in turn would become more violent, more willing to lash out at the "ordinary citizens" who might be part of the vigilante gangs against them. The police force would be less than a joke, it would be a footnote as the city descended into gang warfare between vigilantes and the mob. Many innocents would be lost as people killed whoever they thought was a criminal. "Justice" as you put it here is a very nebulous and slippery term. "Justice" is more strictly defined as a system of laws, juries, and judges, meant to ensure that the person being punished actually did the crime and that the criminal is punished like every other criminal, not just in accordance with how much a particular person dislikes them. Not every killer is equal, and not everyone who kills a killer does so for good reasons either. That being said, Joker should have gone to the chair yeeaaaaaaars ago.
@VRIceblast2 жыл бұрын
@@Afalstein I'm talking about real criminals, that have a history of killing people. Not someone that say, robbed a bank. Dangerous criminals that kill, and the legal system can't seem to keep them in jail. I see your point, but I seriously doubt that we would have that many people copying Batman if he started killing, and even so, there are only so many criminals, and if criminals understood they could die, I think their would be less criminals. I think people would be a great deal more legal, if they knew that it wasn't just the legal system they would have to face anymore.

@@VRIceblast if Batman kills his enemies and remains on the loose he is really not that different from what he is killing. A killer who kills other killer is not a hero just another killer. Even if larger crimes are justified with killing how long do you think it'll take for even petty crimes would follow through. Then everyone would justify killing. It doesn't matter how insignificant an act of killing looks on a grand theme, it'll spread like a wild fire among all. Filth should be removed no doubt. But what's the point of removing filth by replacing it with blood?

@@Phantom_Zone No, as I said, if he is killing these killers that the legal system can't seem to stop, that doesn't make him a killer. Cops kill dangerous criminals all the time, that doesn't make them murderers. It's a different story, if he kills someone that was innocent Intentionally. People kill all the time, saying that Batman is responsible for other people killing just sounds like making him a scapegoat for all other peoples actions. Everyone knows that Batman is more like a cop, trying to clean up the streets. He would just be saving the taxpayers lots of money, and their lives in the process. Gotham is in no way a save place to live, and the trash really needs to be removed from the streets permanently.

Its because you're not aware about Batman. For him it is way too easy to kill someone but the thing is that, atleast for him, I he choose to kill someone and end a problem, he will never stop it cause it is much easier and efficient.. ( even we choose easier options, once we find it or try it for once and we will kinda try using the same solution as possible ) And as a person who read Batman: metal, I don't want Batman to kill Jocker....

I feel that Matches was once a father himself. The way he calls Bruce "son". He probably lost his family in a similar way Bruce did so he understands his need for closure and revenge.

I'm surprised it's not Joe Chill.

I hated Joe chills for killing Bruce parents but when I learned why it's very sad he had one bad day that completely ruined his life and changed him to the point where he just couldn't feel any pain anymore for others after what he had lost and Bruce saw that and felt so sorry for the very same man that killed his parents and didn't want to end up like him and in the end chills took his own life to end it all full circle till the very end.
