Honestly, just watching you play chess and narrate your decision making process has helped me more than anything I've done, by a wide margin. Having only started playing seriously a few weeks ago, it's helping me develop my own internal monologue about how to strategize. Thank you!

Master Levy! Thank you for making this video. I'm very new to chess, and played three games today against a few players who used the King's Pawn Opening, Wayward Queen Variation and absolutely wrecked me with it. I also was trying to play King's Pawn Opening, defend and develop towards the center all at the same time, but they were just sacking everything in my court and forcing me to move my King. I fell into every trap you demonstrated early in the video... hehe. But now, thanks to you, I won't fall for this again. That's called character development!

The scholars mate and the wayward Queen attack are two classic games that beginners need to play & experience ASAP as they start their journey playing 1.e4 e5 moves. Also taking your time to really study the board before making the first move that comes into your head is a difficult skill to master. Lasker gives good advice: "When you see a good move, look for a better one."
@elderlycatpatriot4 ай бұрын
The best part about being a noob at chess is that you get to see so many people try to do scholar's mate or a wayward queen atack. More often than not, they pause for like 30 seconds to even a full minute, maybe more, when you don't play the moves that you're "supposed" to do. Personally, I like to pretend that I don't know what they're doing until the third move; then I block the queen and watch them scramble around as I simply develop my pieces, whilst attacking their queen at the same time. I end up with a good position, ready to rock, while they've spent the last six or seven moves panicking because their queen keeps getting attacked. If they blunder the queen, which they usually do, that's an added bonus. If they don't blunder the queen, the fun comes from them trying to figure out what to do when their opponent had control of the whole board, because suddenly their silly "strategy" doesn't work anymore. It's like watching the school bully get intimidated and subsequently beat up after picking the wrong person to mess with.

Levy, please read this: My chess experience is almost entirely online. @megugu21554 жыл бұрын
you mean irl board? just practice or buy a better chessboard with better pieces. some chessmen out there are made out of cheap plastic that makes kings and queens hard to distinguish so yeah just find a good chessboard. this problem also happens in irl shogi, irl go and irl backgammon so dont worry its not just you. just practice and stare at the board.

Buy a real board, and play 15 or 30 minute online games but make all the moves on the board so you can learn to recognize the same patterns, and even if you have no one to play irl chess with this still works

When playing low rated games players are hyperfocused on capturing and not contemplating as many positions further ahead as you describe them. When you play pawn d4 at 5.20 it would most likely lead to an exchange of pieces where white loses. If you are unsure of what is a blunder after that move then white is likely to lose.
