As tragic as THIS origin was for Two-Face, I find the one from Batman: TAS had just the right elements to fill into it. For those who don't remember; in TAS, Harvey had a bully who used to beat him up on a repeated basis. One day, Harvey had enough and finally hit the bully. As you can imagine, he felt pretty proud of that...until he learned the bully ended up in the hospital. Harvey thought it was due to how he hit the bully but he was actually in there for Appendicitis. To make a long story short; after that, Harvey swore he would never act out in anger again. Years of pushing down that anger over the years resulted in Harvey developing an alternate personality, one Dr. Thompkins dubbed "Big Bad Harv"

They gave a good setup for the Rat King, as opposed to the Arkham Knight, where they just kinda threw him in there and you don't really get to see how close he was to Batman except in that one scene where Joker taunts him with a photo of Batman and Tim Drake.

Honestly Two-Face being the one with the memories that Batman is Bruce and Harvey not makes perfect sense given the game lore. Back in Knight if you do Two-Face’s quest after the Batman reveal, on the way to the GCPD, Harvey asks if it’s true about his identity, to which there is a silence and then Two-Face says “Don’t answer then, we know the truth”. Originally in Knight you can interpret this as Harvey in denial over the new information and Two-Face being willing to believe it, but with this game it twists the line into meaning, “You know perfectly well that I know, Bruce, even if he doesn’t”. Also I gotta say I think Harvey’s DID is handled well in Arkhamverse as a whole, which is great for a disability that is so stigmatised in media, especially given how you can interpret Two-Face as a very misguided protector of him who most likely became a holder for all of his anger - explaining why when Two-Face starts fronting again, Harvey becomes angry, when most of the time he’s quite calm.

Also, it's kinda ridiculous that an obviously rational prisoner, who's sitting in the dock and not causing trouble, can get dosed against his will in the middle of a courtroom, and a judge is just cool with this. Where was "Malone's" lawyer, anyway? Why was a competency test being applied if neither he nor his non-existent lawyer was trying to enter an insanity plea? Who was questioning his competency? How was ANY of that constitutional? Dent getting doused is the judge's fault for allowing such a farce in the first place.

The most surprising thing I found out about the game: they actually confirmed the canonicity of Arkham Origins Blackgate Previously, it was questionable whether the mobile game was canon or not. Now with Shadow, its pretty much confirmed with balckgate prisoners mentioning the events of Blackgate as well as the gel gun gadget There is still the issue with Solomon Grundy appearing in Blackgate so they may have to eventually explain this "plothole"

I had never played a narrative driven VR game before this, so I didn’t know what to expect. I remember hearing mixed reviews about the last Arkham VR game. This was something else entirely. The campaign actually felt like the length of a standard Arkham game, the writing and acting were superb, and the gameplay mechanics were far more robust than I was expecting. All these facets created an incredibly immersive game that I had so much fun playing. I cannot recommend this game enough to those who can get their hands on it.

@@thedarkknight727Batman is still a cause and effect. Crane sees a vigilante dressing up as a bat, moving in the shadows, beating the crap out of people. This inspires him to delve deeper into 'shadow therapy' as Batman is obviously Bruce's shadow and Crane sees a man that's brought his shadow to the surface and has accepted it. But say there is no Batman running around, which means Joker doesn't get created, which means the events of Origins never happen, which is the night that forever changed the landscape of Gotham and things started shifting from organized crime to supervillains. Would Crane still be diving into his 'shadow therapy'? Sure, it's possible. But I'd argue without the catalyst of Batman acting as a cause and the effect of crime's shift toward supervillains to oppose Batman as a form of escalation, Crane doesn't have the confidence nor the subjects he'd need to begin his journey as Scarecrow.

Chronologically, I think Batman Arkham Asylum, City, Knight take place roughly 8-10 years after Origins and Shadow. Batman: Arkham Knight takes place a year after the events of Arkham City, which takes place 2 years after Arkham Asylum, which takes place 5 years after Arkham Origins. So, he's about 9-10 years in, also, adding the years from Suicide Squad, he'd be 14-15 years in.

Asylum is 7.5 years after Origins: Origins is Christmas Eve of year two (stated in-game) Knight is set on Halloween, ten years after Origins (stated in-game), thus making it year twelve Knight is set nine months after Joker’s cremation (stated in-game), placing City in late December of year eleven or early January of year twelve. City is set eighteen months after Asylum (stated multiple times in-game), placing Asylum in the summer of year ten. The difference between Christmas of year two and summer of year ten is seven and a half years.

From everything I've seen my interpretation of this game is that ultimately Crane is the rat king. A rat king is a group of rats that managed to get their tales tangled together and now they're bound. Crane for all intents and purposes acts as the knot holding each rat, suspect, together. So many villains were created just because of the actions of one man.
@NicBrandon3 ай бұрын
Two-Face has always been probably my favorite Batman villain when he’s in a story that actually knows how to use and characterize him well, which is sadly not very often (The Dark Knight and the Telltale series stand out as modern exceptions). This game? Oh man, they fucking nailed it. I’m seriously considering getting a headset for this, this team really knew what they were doing. Also, for the record at 16:40, Shadow takes place 7 years before Asylum. Knight takes place 10 years after Origins and nine months after Joker’s cremation (both stated in-game). City takes place 18 months after Asylum (stated many times in-game, notably with a lot of Quincy Sharp dialogue and bio text), placing Asylum seven and a half years after Origins. Origins is Christmas Eve of year two, Asylum is summer of year ten, City is either late December of year eleven or early January of year twelve, and Knight is Halloween of year twelve. Since Shadow is the summer after Origins, it’s almost exactly seven years before Asylum.

Just to clarify, the term “shadow” most likely comes from the concept formulated by Carl Jung. Essentially it’s the dark part of ourselves, our aggression, our perversion…everything we keep hidden from others. Jung said that if one want to be their “true self” they must accept that the shadow is part of them as well, Crane does a subversion of this process, instead of accepting and dealing with those emotions he says that one must not repress and answer those urges

A lot of people were thinking it made no sense, but this kinda shows (along with Harleen’s voice in Arkham knight when entering detective mode as Harley) show that she always had good in her. All it took to bring some of it out was to take away the manipulator and give her some time. I think this game also gives a better connection between Harley and Batman, making the pull of Harley killing Batman just a little bit easier to swallow. @@ShreddedGenius Harley is insane. Her actions shouldn't be forgiven or ignored, but batman's no kill rule and most of his stories because of that rule are supposed to show that he believes everyone deserves a chance to be reformed. On top of this, we've seen plenty of his villains end up being reformed before: Freeze, Harley, and even his biggest baddie, Joker. Several comics and other forms of media have shown this side of batman that I personally love. He's always willing to give his villains another chance. One example of Harley being reformed in other media, is in the animated series. Batman himself goes to congratulate her, which I think is supposed to be a lesson to us fans that a person's past doesn't define who they become in the future. It's never too late to decide you want to be better. I've also experienced this myself as well in real life. I wasn't an amazing person when I was younger, and actively made other people's lives worse. I don't want to be forgiven for the things I did when I was younger, nor do I think I deserve to be. But I am, and have been, trying to be and do better than the old me. So, I guess you could say I'm biased towards redemption arcs for characters, but I just think it's never too late for someone to be better than their past
