650 Elo is what I can relate to, cause I know what the players are going through 11 As a Goth main, it's scary when u get attacked by archers/CA and don't have a castle ready for Huskarl production. Sometimes I have even bought stone just so I am not dead. Edit: What was that ending :( Edit: turns out Mirza is a new player, his second week playing aoe2. For how new he is he played really well.

Wow, 650 ELO is not really all that low anymore. Reasonable build orders, collecting sheep one at a time, luring boars, good scouting, not too much idling, solid plans, even some nice occasional microing. They play better at 650 ELO these days than they did at 1000 ELO before the Definitive Edition! Even today's 200 ELO would dominate those from the LAN party era way back, when the following build order was sufficient to win LAN parties and feel like a champion. - 2 on sheep, 2 on straggler trees, start scouting. - oops, I need to build a house - 5 on sheep (collecting from at least 3 dead sheep), 4 on wood - sheep are consumed, let's build a mill at the berries, don't bother with hunting - oooh, just realized straggler trees are done and villagers go too far to chop trees, so build a lumber camp} - still 10 pop, want to go up to feudal because having militia as the only military is boring, and no one rushes anyway - not enough food to go up to feudal, but creating villagers costs food, so don't create villagers because it would reduce our food count, so just wait until there is enough food, relax a little - ok, we have feudal, and berries are out (actually were out 2 minutes ago and villagers were just standing there), so now create the economy which will carry us all through the entire game: 8 farms (because they so nicely surround the mill), about 10 on wood, 3-4 on gold and 2-3 on stone. Plus 2 or 3 extra villagers not working, just standing around, because we need to keep them ready for when we'll want to build something. Don't send more of them mining because that would exhaust the gold too quickly, and that would be scary. Never create a secondary town center, because we have enough villagers, and we can still train one or two more whenever we need them. - put up a few defensive towers at aesthetically pleasing positions, build houses and other buildings like they can be seen in medieval movies or in towns encountered in the campaigns. Maybe crate some walls around the houses because that's where people live, don't bother walling the mines and woodline, because that's not how medieval towns looked like, and neither did the towns in the campaigns - slowly build up a military of about 4-5 units of EVERYTHING, and start building a defensive position with a castle, towers and walls near the center of the map. - if there are not enough resources for a building or research, then (instead of preparing for it), create 2 or 3 more villagers, and send them to collect the missing resources, and wait for them to be collected, and then start building or researching what we wanted 10 minutes ago. - as the opponent did the same thing near the center of the map, and we have now two fortified camps near each other near the center, spend the next 2 hours raiding the enemy camp with small armies, then replacing the losses, and defending against similar raids and repairing the slightly damaged buildings. Not bothering with whatever else there might be elsewhere on the map, because we need all the focus at the "war" in the middle of the map. - occasionally build up a sneaky force of 5 archers, 5 skirms, 5 swordsmen, 5 knights and a monk for healing, all in the same formation, send them around the map to the enemy town but they are slow, so reroute them halfways to defend the central camp because it just came under attack. Or just forget about them completely, having them stand around near the border of the map before they could have reached the enemy base. - Focus only on the battle in the center, no need to invest more into the economy because we have thousands of every resource in the bank, which is plenty enough to replace losses. Repeat this for a few hours until the most patient player can slowly push back the other, and then slowly treb down the enemy base.

Blue did a good job here. I mean, he built more archery ranges to produce more skirms, there are so many low elo players who would queue 15 skirms in one archery range during the attack and let them get shot one by one. Very good game from both of them.

Poor Red. Basically his only mistake was not making some knights to add to his CAs since the knights could've taken care of skirms and then Blue has nothing.

I think this game would have been over as soon as red adds trebs from his castles. Blue was able to hold red out of his base, but a push towards trebs would have been another story. But the disconnect got him first.

People complaining about the Goths in chat like Goths players aren't having an anxiety attack just trying to survive until their eco engine gets going and they get up to imp. I do like Goths a lot because they forced me to get out of my habit of turtling up and playing 3 hour long games against the AI, lol. I hope the devs never change the identity of the civ. The risk/reward of the Goths is intensely satisfying (at least against the AI it is, I only ever play against the AI since my technique and build orders crumble after I hit up to feudal)

i still play HD because my pc can't handle DE and i knew about the Goth spam but my friend didn't , so we played 2v2 against bots and i was getting attacked so i started making army he was worried about me and told me "i am sending you army because i saw you didn't have any" so i told him but i have army and he sees 60 Huskarls appear out of nowhere and he was freaking out and asked me if i used a cheat code even. that is one of the reasons why i like Goth

Love LeL videos but this time I really got stressed with the Goth player on how he was going up to feudal at like 14 mins and had the resources to go straight to castle but he didn't. Dear blue player if you read this: Your win condition has goths is to get to castle age and drop a castle as fast as possible, focus on that and that only, then make Huskarls from your barracks to harras while you buy your way up to imperial and then the game is yours, but you need to focus on these priorities and your win condition. Disconnect won't save you every time.

The Goths being one-dimensional is a invalid debate. There are alot of civs that are played the same way. Its just seeing what their bonuses are and not what they are capable of. Khmer go for the most part with Ballista Elephant deathballs which most civs cant deal with effectively if you let the Khmer have it, similar with Goths, they can only spam if you let them have the eco for it.

What makes Goths different from other civs isn't that they rely on one unit type, it's that they're more binary than anyone else. The real issue is that they're hard to balance that way. People complain about weird things.

Khmer's Knight+scorpion is very decent on almost every open map. They can definitely go for insane Scout rushes too. Mongols with their hunt bonuses can also go for crazy scout and Knight push but can't say that for Goths as they are super boring. They are the Franks of the Infantries where you know it's going to happen(the infantry). Bohemians, Poles, Chinese and Hindustanis are the most fun civs to play in my opinion.

I walled the base in was ahead on economy and research. had 6 pikemen at each area they had slipped in. he came with 12 scout vs 18 pikemen and wiped me out. left then came back and would mess with economy and I'd build tons of pikemen at one point 22 vs 15 to no avail. He'd just rush past and my pikemen couldn't catch up to kill the scouts. At that point, I was focused on tuton knight and pikeman and would be hard to switch cav

@@TruSpec_Gaming Pfff, sorry man, but the "Walled in" and the "Teuton Knight" really gives away your elo. Anyway, make sure your pikes are not out of position. They have to be as close to the villies as possible. In case a scout reaches a villie, send him/her to the nearest pikeman. Make sure you evacuate the attacked res line when under attack. Also, you do use your blacksmith, don't you?

@Unimportant Commenter never said I had a elo never even played ranked. I'm not sure enough in my skills yet, and that wouldnt be fair to me or the ranked players. Why I said watching videos and practicing build orders. I'm still new to aoe2 de played several campaign and skirmishes on hard or hardest struggle alil with extreme. Yes per most videos I've picked easy civs and I use the blacksmith. I'll pick 1 gold champ, knight or pal 1 trash Hal for anti calv and a siege normally treb at least 4 for a push. In black Smith I focus on the infantry and fletch since it gives castles a boost in arrows, unless i go arc or cav.I also use university. And focus on build speed and damage items.

Hard to talk about the game without seeing it. If you wall and make the counter unit, you should be in the clear. Something isn't adding up. Maybe that something is the quality of your opponent. Are you playing against self-identified noobs in lobby games? If you don't know your level, you might just be outmatched. How do you beat the very hard AI? A player who can do that consistently without cheesing should be good enough for ranked. That will also solve your mismatching problem.
